A-ok, in a good way. Half stars would be useful as I think three stars can seem a little less kind than I intend here… but I feel 4 stars is for places that have a nice ambience and are a little higher end unless the food is mind-blowing. I’ve only gone for take-out so I can’t speak for delivery. They’re one of the very few places where I can get Mapo tofu on the East coast. And that is very good. Hot, fresh and good basic American-Chinese is what this place does. Their crab rangoon is light and crispy and you can get a small size(most other local Chinese food places only have big sizes). The lady who runs the show rhere is really nice. Fair prices for the good quality.

I live 10 minutes from the location and i ordered delivery. One hour later, no food. I called them and they told me «they got busy» and the food hadnt even left! Poor service. The food is nothing spectacular, not terrible. Definitely not worth waiting an hour to receive..

We order delivery from Hong Kong express all the time. Delivery is always very fast. The delivery people are always very nice. The food is always hot and fresh and delicious. I have been ordering from them for nearly 20 years. I’ve never had a bad meal. Highly recommended you have to try it.

We love Hong Kong. Our typical order is General Tso’s Chicken, crab ragoons, shrimp with lobster sauce and some egg rolls. Their food has continued to be of great quality for the price. They always deliver in a timely manner and when we go in to order or pickup the people at the register are super friendly. They care about their customers.(Example: asking how someone’s wife was doing knowing that she was sick). Highly recommended for quick fast good Chinese food.

We just moved from WA State to Maine & didn’t realized how difficult it’d be to find Oriental restaurants & stores on this side. So relieved we found Hong Kong Express! Fresh, tasty food & reasonable priced!

Nastiest Chinese I’ve ever had. I’m not the type to write bad reviews about good people, but the apathetic rude person who I called to complain to the next day didn’t give a @#$& about what I had to say. No apology for charging me more than what the menu online was, and the beef and broccoli was so watery and salty with hardly any beef(if it was beef) such was all fatty and gristle. Rice was good but they charge extra for side that should automatically come with it. First time I ever threw food away after ordering it. Maybe the cook was mad because I ordered late, right around close? No excuses. no stars and not ever going back. Bring back Xin Ping!

For Portsmouth, Hong Kong Express is the place to get Chinese. They deliver, and the food is good and cheaply priced. The combo plates are a great value. I usually order the chicken/beef with broccoli and white rice. They use fresh broccoli and give you a good amount, which I love! I’ve also have had their chicken teriyaki(delicious) and General Tso’s Chicken. Their pork fried rice also tastes ‘fresher’ than other places I have tried in New Hampshire. My only complaint would be that I’ve had better crab rangoon at other restaurants(and I love crab rangoon). Everything else is great though!

I don’t see why this place has such a low star rating. It’s clean, prices are great, and the woman at the counter is friendly. I think the food is good and fresh, try it. Don’t base your visit on the stars.

They have always been a staple for me over the years. Prices are extremely reasonable and the food is generally good. Is it the best Chinese in the area? Not the best… but reasonable, dependably tastes well, and overall just a very good go to place when you want quick take out. I would recommend them.

I don’t know what happened to this place but the last couple of times I went in to pick up an order I had placed, I was appalled at the service, including service from the owner or manager. He told me he was the owner, but I heard him tell someone else who wasn’t happy with their order that he was the manager. The food is nowhere near as good as it used to be, a long time ago. It was soggy and should have been crispy. Some of tasted like it had been warmed up instead of cooked fresh. I asked for sweet & sour sauce/duck sauce, and the man wanted to charge me for it! I have never been charged for condiments EVER at a Chinese restaurant. There were several other people in line behind me to pick up food, and I debated whether to say anything, and finally I did. I should have just walked out then but instead I asked him if I heard him correctly, and he said ‘Of course you did!”. I told him no other Chinese restaurant in town charges for packages of sauce, and I said it’s like ketchup is to fries at McDonald’s. Why would you not GIVE the standard condiments with the food? He stood at the counter and insisted his food was much better than anyone elses and it didn’t need any kind of sauce with it, and that if I chose to put sauce on it, I would need to pay for it. Needless to say, that was the last time I set foot in that restaurant.

This was the go to restaurant when the kids were young and we wanted to have a treat. Chinese food was a special occasion in our home. But the last 2 months we have ordered take out(3 times) and it was mushy or dried out. What happened? This was always a charming friendly place and it still is but the food is either overcooked or just left over? I don’t know but I will not try again. Even the teenage boys said it was yucky! Thats saying alot because teen boys usually eat everything! Hong Kong Express what happened to your cooks?

A hidden gem. Call ahead, and order the combo plate. I usually get the general with crab rangoons or egg roll. Best bad chinese food in the area. You know what I mean, right? It’s not good, but BOY is it GOOD.

So we’ve established that nobody in the state of New Hampshire knows how to cook Chinese food… HK delivers. That’s pretty much the only reason I had Chinese food last night. It was super late, we were still at the office, and neither of us was about to get bundled up and pick up food. HK was less disappointing than expected. As a friend told us, I’m sure it will come in very handy mid-winter when neither of us want to leave the apartment. Our delivery came pretty quickly but they didn’t include eating utensils(even though we specifically asked for two sets of chopsticks) or napkins. The lo mein and scallion pancakes were acceptable but the chop suey was insanely bad. It’s a half-decent last resort. That’s really all I can say.

2 stars, but hey, thats ok with me when all I want is cheap Chinese food :) Tonight, I ordered a large chicken lo mein and a small veggie lo mein. But when I got home… I noticed that I had revieved 2 chicken lo meins instead. Lame! But I called and they delivered my veggie lo mein, which tasted very yummy! The restaurant is a bit dirty, but there are some arcade games, so thats quite fun.

When I first moved to the area, I was really looking for some good cheap chinese take-out. I thought I had found it here. It is cheap, and has the typical chinese fast food fare you would expect. However, after several OK experiences, I had a very bad experience with the food that made me sick. I got my usual order of vegetable fried rice and an egg roll. I ate about a third of the fried rice and the egg roll for lunch on Friday. Later that night, I got horribly sick and spent some time getting to know my toilet bowl. I wasn’t 100% sure, what I got sick from, but knew the feeling to know that it was from food. After vomiting, I felt immediately better and went back to bed. I really didn’t think it could be the fried rice since I’d eaten it other times before and never gotten sick. Also, it’s VEGETABLE fried rice so there’s nothing in there that can really go bad that quickly or needs to be cooked carefully. The next day, I felt fine. I still had my left over fried rice(yay, my favorite part about chinese takeout), and ate it for breakfast/lunch…some hours later that evening after eating nothing else that day except juice and some dry cheerios(not because I was feeling ill, but because money was tight), I’m spending some more quality time with my toilet bowl. The fried rice had to be the culprit. There is no doubt in my mind. Needless to say, I’ve never eaten there again. While I will admit that I have had meals of their food with no problem, and I love their prices, but the bad food that wrecked my weekend is enough to keep me away. Plus I keep thinking, WHAT is going on back there in that kitchen where rice and vegetables can make people sick?

We got delivery for Oscar Night. Mmmmm Oscar Niiiiight(drool)… The delivery gal still made it within 45 minutes but had had a hard time finding Sean M’s place which I totally empathized with because when I arrived in Portsmouth my GPS suddenly said, «You have arrived at your destination. Goodbye.» And I was like, «Whaaaaat? I am in front of a jewelry store…» But next to that was the lobby of Sean’s place so *phew*. Anyhoo, Sean ordered stuff with tofu and sauce on the side… He loved it. My pork lo mein was flawless. It had flat noodles much like you would get in Szeshuan(sp) spicy noodles. The slices of pork were flavorful and lean. All ingredients were fresh and the sauce was total yum. The Peking Raviolias where doughy but very flavorful. The Peking Ravioli sauce was okay. It was soy sauce with little chunks of fresh ginger. It needed fresh garlic, roasted almond oil and red pepper flakes. The Pu Pu Platter had some problems. The Crab Rangoon was way too hard and crispy. There was one tiny speck of pink representing«crab» in each Crab Rangoon. Not cool. The chicken fingers were tasteless and doughy. The beef teriaki was very thin and beef jerky-ish. The boneless spare ribs were very dry and tasted reheated. The chicken wings were dry as well but tasty. The eggrolls were very good; tasted fresh with lots of cabbage inside. I would definitely order from them again simply because for Chinese food delivery there are not a whole lot of choices in Portsmouth, NH. Clearly I did enjoy most of the food.

I stopped at Hong Kong Express for dinner takeout. Hong Kong Express serves up the standard Chinese dishes including Szechuan and Cantonese cuisines. They offer 15 Combination Plates($ 5.20-$ 7.20) served with fried rice and choice of one of eight appetizers(A-H) priced accordingly. I decided to order Combo 4A($ 5.20 plus tax): House Lo Mein served with pork fried rice and egg roll. The cashier asks if I wanted duck sauce, spicy mustard, or sweet & sour sauce with my food, which is usually complementary. Not here! Hong Kong Express charges around 25 cents extra for each small sauce, which is underhanded(they don’t mention the extra charges) and very tacky, but not as bad as the baggage fees on most airlines. NOTONE Chinese place I’ve visited to date, CHARGESEXTRAFORSAUCES. Similarly, some roast beef places in the area also charge extra for each condiment. I did ask for duck sauce(25 cents) and spicy mustard(15 cents). The food was hot and ready in about 7 minutes. The lo mein had a spicy and salty taste, which had curry, soft shrimp and roast pork, water chestnuts, and vegetables with soft noodles. The fried rice was good, which had roast pork pieces, onion, and egg. The egg roll was not wide like at other Chinese places, which had shredded cabbage and fine ground pork. Overall, the food I had was pretty decent Chinese. Just be warned about the EXTRACHARGEFORSAUCES.

Be weary of this place. First of all, the people who work here are just nuts. The female owner is completely insane and annoying. For someone with so little patience, she is a glutton for punishment because she hires complete idiots to work there. The food is totally inconsistent. I have been there and had good food, we have been there and had two bites and thrown out the rest. It’s a crapshoot. I can’t even recommend particular things as they have been great and terrible on different occasions. The big plus about this place is that it’s dirt cheap and you can make your own combos ie. fried rice v white, egg roll v spring etc.

Hong Kong Express loses a star. It took an hour for them to deliver lunch today and when the guy finally showed up, he told us to hurry up because he didn’t want to get a ticket. And when the woman on the phone asked if we wanted mustard and soy sauce with that, she didn’t mention that it would cost extra. For 3 little things of soy sauce and mustard? Leslie P. reported slow delivery times a month ago and now we’re feeling it. Hong Kong Express, please work on your delivery. It used to be much faster. And if you need help tracking this down, the receipt said Server: Manager and Table: Mike. The good news is that everyone was happy with their food and the order was correct. Late, but correct. (Quick edit, 5⁄28) We got lunch delivered to the office today, there no problems & it got here when we expected it. After last time, we had our order together by 10:30 just so we could get it in as early as possible. Let’s see if they can provide consistently quick delivery with the order being correct. I’m hoping. (Another quick edit, 10⁄12) They forgot my fried rice. We called and the delivery guy brought it just as we were finishing lunch. This place has good, basic, predictable Chinese take out. But the delivery if consistently problematic. 3.5 stars for the food, 2 for the delivery.

After every move, the first night tradition in our house is Chinese food take-out or delivery, if it’s available where we are. We found Hong Kong Express via Unilocal, and gave them a try. I’d give them a C+ on this first pass, and it was good enough we’ll try them again. The main issue was delivery time — we are only a few blocks away but it took 45 minutes to get our food. It seemed long to us, but to be fair, maybe we were just so hungry from moving furniture all day we were less patient than usual… We ordered a variety of items: crab rangoons, Schezuan chicken lo mein, pork fried rice, spare ribs, sweet and sour chicken and rice. They get two thumbs up for being easy to communicate with on the phone — one of us is allergic to shellfish of the shrimp, crab and lobster variety and they happily agreed to wrap and cook the rangoons separately for us. As for the food, it was pretty average. I was disappointed the Schezuan chicken lo mein was not at all spicy as advertised, but other than that, everything was fine. Nothing stood out, but nothing was bad either, and the price was definitely right. We’d eat food from here again, if only to see if there are more interesting dishes on the menu than the ones we ordered. Update: have tried them again twice. The food review remains the same, and the delivery time has gotten WORSE, if that is possible. All three times have been 45 minutes, 1 hr 15 minutes and at the last try 1 hr 30 minutes. They need to get this under control, stat. I had to remove a star.
