I had high hopes for them as I had heard good reviews from other people. Decided to finally try them out as I really enjoy exotic game and wild game. Main reason for going was they are the only local restaurant that has alligator on the menu. Went there and wanted the GW’s combo plate which has alligator as one of the items only to be told that they were out of alligator and they were substituting frog legs in their place. I’m not a big fan of frog legs, so I asked if we could substitute the buffalo fingers in their place and was told no. We ended ordering the buffalo fingers and the elk fingers instead. The sauce that was included was good, however both the elk and buffalo seemed dry and lacked any real flavor. Next it was time for our entrees. I really wanted the elk lasagna, and once again, was told they were out of that. Settled for the New York strip and shrimp scampi. My wife went with the bacon wrapped filet and lobster tail. My steak was cooked as ordered and was juicy and flavorful. My wife’s on the other hand, looked nothing like a filet and was tough and overcooked. Even her lobster was chewy and overdone. Service was so-so with our waitress bringing the wrong soup to me and we never did get a refill of our water and only received one refill of our drinks. All in all, I would rather go to Black Angus for steak. Guess I will try to find alligator through one of the local specialty shops instead.

Well, I’ve given Hunter’s three or four chances now to see if our first poor experience was an anomoly or the norm. Unfortunately it seems to be the norm to have ok to mediocre/bad service, and just ok to «not very good» entrees. After a very disappointing dinner last night my wife and I have decided we will not return. My wife ordered the $ 18 Mac & Cheese entrée and she said it was awful, although the menu description made it sound like it would be very good. She said it was even worse heated up later as a left-over. She had soup prior, had to ask for crackers, server comes by and hands her a single pkg of 2 crackers. I get my salad, no dinner rolls and butter as called out on the menu, no crackers. Our server had little to know training or experience it would seem, we had to ask for everything, check was wrong when it was brought to us. While I speak to our most recent visit, previous visits were the same disappointment with those entrees and servers. It’s too bad that they can’t seem to get it right. We like to support locally-owned establishments, and the ambiance is quite comfortable. But we cannot support mediocrity in the quality of the food and service.

We have come here a few times now. Service is always great, food is good, wait times are not too bad. One of a few places where you can get frog legs, elk, alligator, duck. Our server was Mikayla, she was pleasant and kept our drinks full. It is exactly just off the freeway and easy to get to. We will still keep coming back. A great experience everytime.

First dinner on our road trip. Looked at reviews on Unilocal and thought it sounded good. We were seated, drink orders and appetizer ordered right away. I wanted to try buffalo steak, 9 oz. I believe, but at market price of $ 32, decided prime rib special 19 oz for $ 23 would be better. Wife ordered 9 oz prime rib for $ 18. We had ordered combo plate for appetizer. Waitress came back and told us that the kitchen had just put a prime in and would be at least 30 minute wait. Ok by us, thinking it would be cooked as ordered, medium rare. The combo plate arrived and was pretty good. Our prime ribs arrived after about a 15 minute wait. Wife’s was pretty much well done. Mine was well 1⁄3 well done 1⁄3 medium rare and last 1⁄3 rare cool. Neither piece of meat had much flavor and chewy. Our server was spot on from start to finish. O well, at least the stuffed game animals scattered around were neat. Will not be back.

This place is horrible. I would give it zero stars if I could. I hate giving bad reviews, but I have to be honest. My husband and I got a Groupon for date night & we both agreed ot was awful. We will an ever go back again.

Slower and than snail snot on a cold winter day, only reason for 2 stars is the food is decent. Only come if you want salmon fish and chips, it’s not worth the wait… oops they just ran out of mash potatoes.

Pretty good food. Ordered the Reuben sandwich and fries. One of the better Reuben’s I’ve had in a long time. Feel there should have been more meat. Good portion of fries, good flavor. Staff is friendly and attentive, place is fairly clean and maintained. Very nice theme. Would certainly do it again!

The service was slow and food subpar dry and bland. The waitress hunted me down in parking lot and told me that i needed to talk to the owner because she couldent use the groupon due to the fact that I needed to buy 4 meals. The owner was pissed off stating that he couldent use the groupon because I didnt order 4 meals and refused to give me full credit of the groupon. After I stated that i would not be coming there anymore he said ’”thats good“‘. The owner was rude and abnoxiois. I get better service at at Mcdonalds for a 1⁄3 of price. This is the worst experience I have ever had in any restaurant. Would rather eat my shoe at home than ever go to this dump. Save your money and buy a shoe.

I have been coming to G W Hunters since it was in Coeur d’ Alene. I have always been fond of the food and décor. For the last 7 years I’ve been living only in Southern California but make sure to stop in here at least once every time I visit northern Idaho. The menu is versatile and exciting and the food delivered to the table always hits the mark! Can’t wait to visit again!

Just OK. Not well taken care of here. The service was nice but, the food was not so good. We went their for a birthday and was disappointed. I ordered the extra cut prime rib and was given two smaller cuts stacked on top of each other. Both were over cooked. Food was cold when it came out. We do not plan to return.

Went for elk steak. Underwhelming and overpriced. Good service, attentive servers, and a cool atmosphere with animals on the wall. The chicken noodle soup was pretty good. I’d go back and try it again, but I’d probably get a burger.

Went there this morning with my wife. We are locals but do not eat here a lot. We walked in at 9:03., ordered their 4.99 breakfast and we were told that it only went until 9:00. Three minutes! Really? Then it happened to the people right next to us. Twice the amount and it was lousy anyway. My last trip there.

This restaurant has become pretty mediocre. Tried it for the last time yesterday. Service was slow, the clam chowder wasn’t even warm, and water glasses were not refilled. The booths also look like they need a good cleaning.

Both times I have been here the food has been cooked perfectly… we got the Wild Hunter’s Skillet and Swedish crepes… the huckleberry butter is perfectly balanced between sweet and a hint of salty… the skillets are packed with meat and tators… this is one of our goto places for breakfast… the coffee is run of the mill… service is spot on never had to ask for anything…

George is great and I love 30% off Tuesday for locals and $ 9 Burger and Brew Wed. Had the Angel Hair Pasta Cajun Shrimp and it was fresh, creamy, just the right spicyness.

Was with a large group and the staff were aware that we would be there for an early dinner and were given the back meeting room that was overly warm. Had to ask for air conditioning. Waitress asked if she could open the door for us to add more heat to the room, I guess. Finely the air conditioner was put on… barely handling our group. Rest of restaurant was not busy. Staff was in uniform, friendly and well presented, but were not trained well or to handle a group. and nothing seemed to run very smooth… Three of us ordered salmon. My meal was stone cold and over cooked… plate next to me had salmon that was literally raw inside and the other had the skin attached and cold… Baked potatoes were excellent of course. My dinner except for a couple of bites was boxed up and taken home. Other meals at the table were hit or miss as to the quality… Have been here before and enjoyed the atmosphere and food… It is not the same now.

After a long break from Hunters due to bad service and poor quality cuisine we decided to venture into the resturaunt to determine if we would notice any improvements since our visit last year. The wood grain, taxidermy, wild game décor is still standing tall – it’s been 10 years I have been in this place and not a damn thing has changed. The floors are clean, tables well kept and food was acceptable. My inlaws had the elk chicken-fried steak and we had the standard chicken-fried steak for breakfast. The portions are still large and you can easily split the plate for budget conscious folks. Service was friendly and prompt, coffee was hot and our cups never ran dry. The food came out looking like it has for the last 10 years. As far as breakfast is concerned I would be brave enough to say that Hunters has improved from its sketchy service and tasteless fare from last years change in ownership. I am anxious to visit for dinner service, especially the prime rib and BBQ ribs as these have both been family budget friendly favorites for years.

I rarely venture here anymore for a few reasons, but mainly it has come down to the actions of new management. The food has become a step-up from a Denny’s or a Perkins(very sad state), but you’ll end up paying twice the price. The service is now just as lackluster as the food. The reliable and fabulous servers have now left and replaced with ones that are too concerned with socializing with each other and find their customers an inconvenience. So, save your money and venture somewhere else.
