Akari Sushi

Small, intimate setting. Very good sushi. Friendly and helpful staff. Service was top notch. If you’re headed to a show at The Chance, this is only a quick drive away. Highly recommended.

The is a pretty good sushi joint. Me and my 10 year old sushi fein son tried this about a week ago on a Friday night. The salad, with its DELICIOUS dressing sticks out in my mind as one of the best ginger dressings I have had in awhile. The soup was pretty damn good too but I feel most miso soups taste the same. The sushi boat we shared was sized generously and we had some let to take home. Atmosphere was pleasant and our waitress was very sweet and attractive. I will definitely return with the whole family next time. Give it a go if you are near by.

The interior is kind of nice, but there was nothing special about the sushi. Not the nice presentation that I expect and not chilled which would bring out the flavors better. The server seemed inexperienced and a little bit odd. Not service oriented. The visit was not awful, just made me appreciate my goto sushi place that much more. Akari might be good by up state standards, but is mediocre in my book. Fortunately, the prices are somewhat cheap. Oh well, at least it is close to the train.

Ever since I have found Akari, it has not dissapointed. The atmosphere in the building is awesome, and their delivery time and quality of food is great. I enjoy their sushi immensely, and that is the best part. The philadelhia roll and the salmon roll are my favorite. The chicken fried rice is somewhat bland and the slad that comes with your meal is average. It is a great place for sushi and the best I have found in Poughkeepsie. Also very cheap, especially for a college student!

Terrible service. I am here on a Saturday night, 730pm, there was only a few tables. But I still had to wait 5 min before getting seated and another 10 min before a server came over. The waiter barely spoke English, and didn’t put my appetizer in. so I ate it as desert! Ordered sushi/​sashimi dinner… NO YELLOWTAIL, As a former sushi restaurant owner, that is unacceptable! Fish was not the best, I’ve had better.

When visiting we thought close to river sushi sounded good. It has decent reviews, unfortunately it wasn’t good. The appetizers were decent and their fried banana was phenomenal. But their entrées lacked flavor, had a lot of grease and worse had a nasty after taste. Also, the service was horrible! Their waitress Yuki was awful.

SERVICE IS GREAT! i’m sure she helped us a bit more because we were the only people there at the dining room but still, she was nice enough to recommend sake’s to us. I got the sukiyaki and the quantity can honestly feed 3 females or 2 males. flavor needed a little more sodium but you can add soy sauce to your liking. Parking was easy (shares the train stations parking lot) and restaurant is a descent size.

Fresh quality food! Great lunch and happy hour prices. Would go back again. The crazy roll is delicious.

I been going here since t first opened. Prices are really good and good is amazing. I love their lunch specials. The bento box and sushi is sooo fresh this is then only sushi place I go to. And staff is friendly.

The other day I had only 30 minutes before my train and I needed lunch. I stopped in, explained my haste, and ordered the Sushi Lunch special, not expecting much. I started with the miso soup, which was startlingly good, and then almost instantly the sushi platter arrived. It was outstanding – fresh, ample and thankfully fast – and considering the lunch was only $ 10, I have to give this place the top rating, even though I’ve only been there once. I’ll certainly be back. PS – I should add that the entire staff was really nice.

I ordered take out from Akari and they forgot part of my order. The women delivering said she would return in 30 minutes with the rest of the order. Over an hour passed and I didn’t hear anything, I called the restaurant and the women said no one would be delivering the forgotten part of my order. Terrible take our service!

Good sushi, great prices. The service is good and you can’t beat their lunch specials 3 rolls for under $ 10.
The seaweed salad is delicious and the tempura is light and crispy.

Great sushi! Order a few tools with brown rice, garden salads — yummy ginger dressing! & a miso soup — hot & also delish. We used the beyond menu app to order & pay online. Delivery was good.

I adore their sushi, I had it delivered to my dorm a couple of nights ago and I am just in love with their Green Scorpion roll and spicy crab roll. Ordering them again right now actually.

The sushi here is the best I’ve had in the area, but man is it SLOW. I ordered a lunch special today of 2 rolls. 45 minutes later it still had not arrived and they really did not think that was a big deal. I was livid. I had them wrap it up because I had to go. When I got home and ate them they were delicious! I’m giving them 4 stars because good sushi is hard to come by around here and this was very fresh and very good. I’ll be back, but will make sure I have plenty of time. It was that good.

Still a great place! This past weekend I had the Fujiyama Roll & it was delicious! Plus I tried their gyoza soup & that was excellent as well!

The fried was was delicious. The signature rolls are fresh and tasteful. The waiters were nice and prompt. The wait time for our food was 15 minutes. I would definitely recommend this place.

After their expansion something changed and sadly not for the better. What was once a lovely small dining area in which to eat has lost its intimacy. Close two tops, being in the immediate presence of the sushi masters. I never minded having to wait a few minutes or so for a table. Or using the restroom behind the sushi bar. All of these things made Akari intimate and special.
As for the food, in their renovated and expanded new dining area, The L had ordered grilled pepper tuna and it came out with a slick coating of iridescence on it. We know that means the fish is old and /​or had been cooked much earlier. We sent it back and the gentleman there was concerned enough to discuss it with us but all we wanted to do was send it back not get into a discussion about it when we were supposed to be having a nice couple’s dinner. It did detract from our experience. I sensed that the quality of the food has gone down a bit as perhaps they are buying and anticipating more people than are coming and the turn over is not as reliable as it once was.
Sometimes if something is not broken, a successful sushi spot people happily wait for, don’t fix it. We loved Akari and had not just many lunches but dinners there too. It saddened us to write them off but neither The L nor I are going to take a chance on fish that is not at its peak of freshness. We wish them all the best to succeed and perhaps one day down the road we will give them another try. I hope to be proven wrong about them since they had been such a welcome part of our rotation. :)))
