We had originally planned to purchase a door for our patio, from Home Depot, but we were very disappointed with the way things were handled there including being told that we would receive a 10% discount only to find out that it had expired. We decided to go to Lowes for the door. We chose our door and the man in the ‘door’ department knew what he was talking about. He knew about each individual company(we chose a Pella door) and the differences in each door. He was very helpful. The installer came out to measure today. He was professional, on time, and very knowledgeable. I mention this, because we were under the impression that the original door had been put on backwards(the screen is on the inside and the runner, where you would put a bar/stick for added protection, is on the outside). The installer that came out to measure from Home Depot agreed with me that the door was installed backwards. I mentioned this to the installer from Lowes. He told me that it isn’t on backwards. This is the way Pella manufactures its doors. Our screen is missing a latch and that’s why it doesn’t work(must have happened before we bought our house) and Pella also has an option of a foot lock for added protection. Lowes offers 5% off on all purchase made on their credit card. Home Depot only offered 10% off on the first purchase on their credit card and that had an expiration date!

There may be one or two employees with knowledge about specific products, but overall, Lowe’s falls very short of anything that resembles decent or customer service. Here are some basic retail ideas to make customers happier: 1. Scatter those red hand-held shopping baskets around the store and not just up front far away from the entrance. People may come in for something small, but with a basket, they may fill it up(it’s basic retail psychology, «the bigger the luggage, the more crap you pack;») same goes for retail… Scatter those hand-held red baskets. 2. Open more registers/check-out lines. I don’t need to see a part time employee milling around twiddling their thumbs – put them to work(or hire a better manager who will.) 3. Hire people that can walk a customer to an aisle or a product(if needed), not point and then be wrong. We could go on for hours with this list, but if any GM is reading this, do something about it. Don’t reply with an email to us saying: «We’ll look into these ideas.» Which basically means: «We read your review – but honestly, we don’t care enough about our customers to make any corporate changes.» Be proactive and likely customers will stop being reactive.* *This negative review is a direct result of a mismanaged store and consistently bad customer service.(Why do we shop here? Our only choices are this or Home Depot – all the mom-and-pop stores have gone out of business – it’s sad but true.)

Not a fan of this particular Lowe’s. Unlike Home Depot, the staff are not as quick or eager to help and in a store this huge, a little guidance is very helpful. That said, prices are very competitive and they carry pretty much everything you need, so that’s always a big plus. All in all though, I prefer Home Depot for the extra service.

I love Lowes and wish the company would open one closer to my home. I’ve had wishy washy service in this location. Sometimes good and sometimes arrogant. I will always come back bc this is the closest one to my house.

Competitive prices on appliances. Overall good stock and products. But customer service has been poor since this store(Poughkeepsie) opened. Usually only 1 or 2 registers open, customers frustrated waiting in line. Yet plenty of employees walking around in the store or behind the service desk. This is frustrating when you are on lunch hour or trying to make a quick stop after work or on weekend. No matter what time of day or what day of the week, same story, just 1 or 2 registers open. By the way, some of my friends like Lowes a lot but for some reason register backlog is happening every time I have been there(dozens and dozens of times).

I’ve had mixed success at this particular Lowe’s. I’ve had good luck in their garden center(for materials and supplies but not plants) and their lights, lighting, light bulbs(I like that they have an assortment of Sylvania bulbs besides GE). I’ve also bought power tools and major appliances here. The back half of this store is a huge and well laid-out display of renovation projects. However, it has often felt to me that the store was understaffed either by number or quality of experience of employees. Many times I’ve gone there and there would be a single person operating 1 register. That was not the case today, so maybe they’ve corrected that problem. I’ve had better luck with specific home improvement projects at other Lowe’s, particularly the one in New Paltz. This store has the largest number of small, chirpy, birds flying around the inside of any big-box home improvement store I have ever visited.
