I used to come here a lot with my family when I was a little girl. I moved away from the area 9 years ago so when I walked back in today to grab a quick bite I wasn’t expecting to be remembered. The owner Reeto(sp?) immediately recognized me, asked me about my family, and even remembered what I order. That is the kind of community feeling, local, and familial place this is. Lots and lots of love for them. And they have great challah bread French toast :)

Its is a nice spot. Its defiantly a mans dinner. You know what I mean were the men chill and eat their breakfast. Food: They don’t have waffles which is a problem for me. The French toast is to sweet but I have almost no sweet tooth. Bacon… meh. I had a bite of my boy friends pancakes add they tasted good. Atmosphere: It is quaint. Nice and calm. Clean. Wait staff: Sweet older women with blotchy make up. Gentle spirited man running the grill. He did not say much but he delivered the food to the table.

This is as classic a diner as you could ever hope for. Old school road-side diner with counter seating and many booths to accommodate groups of 4 or larger. The daily lunch specials are the best value in the City. There’s usually 4 items to choose from and soup is always included. For about $ 7, you’ll eat like a king. The guys who run the place are super friendly and the waitstaff are some of the nicest people you’ll ever meet.

Good service, old school building. Great challah bread grilled cheese. Other foods tasty. Who can ask for more?

The New Poughkeepsie Diner is an old school diner located in Downtown Poughkeepsie(City) across the street from DC Social Services. This classic diner is housed in a Kullman(circa 1960s) serving breakfast and lunch 7 days a week. This diner has a long lunch counter with plenty of stools(bolted to the floor step under the counter) and booths along the front windows. The open grill, fryer, and food preparation area is behind the lunch counter. The breakfast menu offerings include egg dishes, steak & eggs, fluffy omelettes, egg sandwiches/wraps, buttermilk pancakes, challah French toast, cereal, breakfast sides, and coffee(Pascal’s). The lunch menu offerings include a good selection of sandwiches, triple deckers, open faced sandwiches, subs, wraps, burgers, gyros, specialty salads, fried appetizers, fried baskets(with fries & slaw), and desserts(puddings, pies, ice cream, sundaes, shakes, egg creams, root beer floats, ice cream sodas). The prices are pretty reasonable, menu items under $ 10. I was in here for lunch recently. I sat myself at an open booth and the waitress promptly arrived to take my drink order. For lunch, I ordered the Basket #2 Fried Cod Fish($ 8.25) served with fries & cole slaw. The food came out quickly, in about 5 minutes. The 2 pieces of deep fried battered cods and the golden fries were nice & crispy on the outside and very hot inside and done right(cooked in very hot oil). The good sized portion of cole slaw was very creamy(mayo based) & sweet with crunchy shredded cabbage & shredded carrots. There was also 2 cups of Ken’s Steak House Tartar Sauce on the side, a small taste of «home» back in Metrowest Boston(Marlborough, MA), hehe. Overall, standard diner style fish & chips, slightly on the greasy side and very filling cole slaw on the side. The service was very prompt and I was back on the road again. Lunch in under 30 minutes! PARKING: Free off-street parking for New Poughkeepsie Diner customers in the back. There are plenty of warning signs in the parking lot about being towed if you are not a diner customer.
