Rolling(or should I say rowing) up to the Pirate’s Canoe is a bit of an experience. Unless you’re told where it is you’re not going to find it. Also, it’s a private club so unless you’ve been asked by a member, I don’t think you’re getting in. I was fortunate enough to attend a wedding here and they did a pretty solid job on the food and entertainment. They turned the main bar area into the cocktail hour portion of the evening. They covered up their pool and shuffleboard tables to host the myriad of hors d’oeuvres and the bartenders kept up nicely with the people’s desire for alcohol. In the dinner portion, the chef actually came over to our table to let us know what ingredients were in each of the dishes so that those with allergies would know what to avoid. I thought that was a really nice touch and seeing that level of care definitely made the eating portion that much easier. I was a big fan of the roast pork with apple chutney and the baked salmon. Finally, since it was a winter wedding, it was pretty cool to see a couple of ships go by and break through the snow sitting on top of the hudson. It definitely made for a nice touch of scenery while I sat inside and sipped my whiskey.

I was invited to the Pirate Canoe Club for a private event after attending my aunt’s funeral. The location is right on the water’s edge along the Hudson River. Getting to the club was interesting as Rivercrest Street is unmarked and we were told by my cousin to turn right after the Marriott off of 9E. Near the end of the private road, there are train tracks where Am Track runs and there are no lights nor crossing gates to stop you so you’re on your own. Be careful crossing those tracks. The staff could not have been any nicer while catering our luncheon. We had an open bar which included free soda(my family enjoyed pitchers of ginger ale) and they served chicken in gravy, roast beef, roasted red potatoes, green beans, pasta with tomato sauce, salad and bread. Coffee service was a little disorganized, but with a few runs for creamer and sugar, we pulled it together.
