Bass & Guitar Lessons With Aviv Silverman

I met Aviv six months ago when I first moved down to San Diego. Since then, he’s been my first-​call bass player for any projects I’ve been involved in. Aviv is not only a fantastic player, he also possesses a firm grasp of the theory behind his style and techniques and can articulate it clearly. He has a very approachable teaching style and is very patient and kind in his teaching.

I’m a music producer here in San Diego and have worked closely with Aviv in the studio, and in love settings. He is by far one of the most educated and helpful bass players in the area. He is my «go-​to» studio bassist. He also has a rich understanding for teaching and helping others grow. A kind hearted gentleman that you won’t regret working with.

Aviv is a truly talented guitar player and instructor. He is genuine, trustworthy and passionate about teaching his students and making music important in their lives.
Aviv makes the lessons personable and unique to each student by finding which genre, style and musicians they like.
Aviv is also great with any age. He has taught as young as 10 and as old as 75 and every age in between.
He is easy to talk to and very down to earth.
I’d recommend lessons with him to anyone.

Aviv is a fantastic teacher — one of the best teachers I’ve ever had, in any subject. I needed to add more funk to my life, and since I’d always wanted to learn the electric bass, AND his lessons were about five minutes away from my office, I started taking lessons with Aviv during my lunch break.
It was pure therapy. From form to technique to ear training, Aviv’s methods helped me dive into learning and playing songs (some of my favorites by MJ and Nirvana) with a skill and confidence I’d never had before. And he’s so fun, patient and kind. Even though I’ve since switched jobs, I still drive across town for lessons, because he really is that great. (Insert musical notes emoji and smiley with sunglasses.)

I was looking to brush up on my bass playing and hopefully get rid of all my bad habits. Aviv has been a great teacher, a lot of teachers I’ve had in the past would just tab out songs and that would be about it. Aviv gives you good structured lessons that make you feel you’re headed in a good direction and actually learning something.
He’s very knowledgeable about music and you can tell he loves playing. Shortly after taking lessons I noticed that my playing has improved which motivates me more to continue playing and improving. If you are serious about learning to play, and play correctly, I would highly recommend getting lessons from Aviv.

Aviv is, quite simply, the man. I’ve dabbled with guitar for years but never really progressed past playing a few chords and have no musical background. What I didn’t expect was his depth of musical knowledge and his ability to essentially teach me the «language» of music. Yes, he can show you how to play chords and teach techniques if that’s what you’d like, but it’s been such a fun and rewarding challenge to sit with him each week and learn the guitar at a far deeper level. I walk away not only better able to understand the instrument, but also with a greater appreciation and enjoyment when listening to music. He’s very patient and takes the time to explain the concepts in terms that work for me. He’s also very open to my input and allowing me to steer the path of progression where I want to go. Really can’t recommend him highly enough!

Aviv has a passion for teaching and a passion for music… a great combination for a bass teacher. His lessons are fun, relaxing and informative. He not only teaches you the skills to play the bass but how to utilize music and playing the bass to achieve emotional balance and stress release.

I have been taking lessons with Aviv for a little over a month, and while I found him immediately likeable and knowledgeable it was tonight that I realized what a great teacher he really is. Yes, he is super patient and easy going, and yes, I am learning arpeggios and intervals and the pads of my fingers are numb and tender just typing this review (as well they should be). Tonight, however, I realized that in those moments when I’m fumbling like an idiot to find a chord (I am soooo much better at finding when no one is listening), that he is really paying attention to what I am doing and where I am facing challenges so that he can correct and assist with those challenges. He is very observant and in-​tuned (pardon the pun) to his students. Aviv does not treat lessons like a play-​by-​play of what he has taught a thousand times before, he really pays attention to the student’s progress and challenges and picks up on the tiniest issues effecting that progress and instructs solutions to those issues with warmth and grace. What a find!

Okay, So I started learning Guitar from Aviv about 3 weeks ago without even knowing how to hold it right! I was little hesitant initially to say that but he is the man! Very patient and never rushes through. Puts that time and effort to make sure you get it right. I can definitely say that I’m on the right track! Ofcourse it takes time to learn any instrument and needs lot of practice. But he gives you the right knowledge and foundation. I would definitely recommend him for anyone who wants to learn Bass or Guitar.

As a Pastor, I am around musicians quite a bit and not all of them have the patience and apptitude to teach and deal with students. Aviv has a huge heart and is able to relate to his students in a way that is extremely rare which allows him to teach in such a way that the students retain what they are learning. Aviv plays at our church and can often be found teaching the children of the church how to play instruments and the amazing thing is… he has their full attention. I would reccomend Aviv to anyone that wants to learn to play and I would definitely reccomend Aviv for teaching children. Don’t waste your time looking for anyone else, Aviv is your guy!

I am not particularly musically inclined, but I’ve always wanted to learn how to play the guitar. I’ve tried many times, both with teachers and trying to learn on my own, but my progress always faltered and my guitar ended up collecting dust. That is, until I started taking lessons with Aviv. The reason his instruction sticks is that he sets out to teach you music and to thoroughly explore the instrument. He doesn’t just help you learn a few songs. He’s a highly trained musician with incredible skills, and he tries to teach you the structure on which his skill is based. He’s very personable and easygoing, but I can also tell that he really wants me to learn and put in the necessary work. His rates are also very reasonable.
If you are ready to learn guitar and want to put some time and effort into it, Aviv is a great teacher to take you on that journey. I would also guess that he has a lot to teach musicians of just about any skill level, not just beginners like me. He’s one of the best.

Aviv is the man!!! I have had the pleasure of working with Aviv in live venues and I have not played with a more outstanding bass player ever! Aviv isn’t just a master at his instrument, he also understands the theory behind music and has a passion to share what he has learned. It is because of his passion to share his experience and knowledge that makes him such an amazing teacher. I highly recommend Aviv as a music/​bass instructor. He is easy going, a brilliant bass player and a man of good character.
