Helen Chang, MD

I have to admit, after reading some of the reviews on here I was a little hesitant to go to Dr. Chang, but decided why not? If I don’t like her, then I can always find another OBGYN to help me through my second pregnancy.
I cannot tell you how happy and how glad I am I went to see Dr. Chang. When I had my appointment she looked over my chart and we talked about some things, she spotted and I talked to her about some things I had some concerns about.
My husband and I would like to have a baby, and this being my second one, was telling Dr. Chang about the issues I encountered with my first being a preemie, gestational diabetes at the very end. etc. She talked everything out with me, but asked me to run some blood work before we got pregnant just to make sure levels and all test came back fine as a precautionary step.
We are very thankful we did, we found out I am sick and it needs to be addressed immediately.
She has nothing but the best intentions and concerns for her patients. She called me on her lunch hour since she had been so busy during the morning and even gave me a specialist she works hand in hand with so I can get in immediately.
Her staff has been very sweet and always puts me through to her immediately if she is available. If not they are sure to put a message in for me or call in a prescription if needed.

I am completely happy, and confident with Dr Chang. She knows her «stuff» and will take the time to explain options. She calls herself with test results. I have gone to her for many years, and like the way she will not ask for filler procedures and tests. I find her to be caring and truthful-​without being offensive

I would highly recommend Dr. Chang! I’ve been seeing her since September and I’m so pleased with my experience. For my first pregnancy I was seen by the team of midwives at UCSD which I also really liked… but my insurance changed and I had to find another option.
I first saw Dr. Chang after a miscarriage late last year. They were quick to make me an appointment (when other local offices I called didn’t have anything available for weeks) and she and her staff were really kind to me during the process. I appreciated that.
I am back again with my current pregnancy (yay!) and have been really pleased so far in these last few months. I’ll have to keep you posted after the actual delivery :) She is kind, simple, gentle, calm and personable. She is also very knowledgeable (but not obnoxiously opinionated) which I appreciate when I have an occasional question or complication. Every interaction I have had with Dr. Chang makes me feel like she cares about me/​her patients and she loves doing what she does. I was under the impression I would have whoever was on-​call at Pomerado Hospital for my eventual delivery but she says she tries to deliver EVERY one of her babies (if not on vacation). Love that.
Only downside so far is her office décor is dated (if that matters) and they do not accept debit/​credit cards for payment. Kinda old school but it works :)
