Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams

I have to start by saying that I love ice cream and I would probably buy it from my worst enemy if that’s what it took. But since my worst enemy does not own an ice cream shop, I’m thrilled to be able to buy it from someone as nice as Jeni of Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams. But more about the ice cream. I’ve eaten more than my fair share of ice cream in many cities across the country, but Jeni’s is by far the best I’ve ever had. I’m not going to start listing my favorites because I have things to do today, but trust me, they’re all good. I changed my mind. I’m going to start listing my favorites. Green mint chip. Pistachio & honey. Savannah betterment. Wild berry lavender. Even the frozen yogurts are good. Anyway, if you have a chance, visit her and have the best ice cream of your life.

Jeni’s I love you! I have been a long time fan of Jeni’s ice cream and nothing is going to change. The quality is just the best around and the flavors are creative. I know it’s more expensive than some other places, but it’s totally worth it.

A trip to Columbus without stopping at Jeni’s is a trip wasted.
Be pe prepared to make the biggest decision you will make all day– choosing a flavor– are at least barrow of it down to 2 or 3. After sampling a few of the flavors I has my eyes in, I picked to have my cone packed with Bourbon Salted Pecan and Torrone… I picked well. Not that you can go wrong.
I need to make a point to try her ice cream sandwiches on my next visit.

This is my go-​to Jeni’s because I like the location. Parking isn’t the best around here, but you’ll find a spot in one of the lots close by, just be ready to walk a bit. The ice cream here is on point, and you can find a flavor here for pretty much anyone. They rotate flavors quickly tho, so if you find one you like I suggest just going HAM and getting the biggest size. And then coming back the next day. And the day after that too. But in all seriousness, my main recommendation is to try and sample at least two flavors that are completely outside your comfort zone, cause you might fall in love with something new. Oh, and their waffle cones here are amazing. Pro tip: get everything in the bowl then add the waffle cone on top. No mess, no stress y’all.

We had the milkiest chocolate, passion fruit (this one was surprising yummy), bourbon salted pecan and sweet cream. All were very good!

Amazing ice cream, it’s that simple. I’ve never been to a place that had sweet potato ice cream or lavender ice cream but I’m hear to tell you it is amazing!
Keep it up and we’ll be back all the time.

Goat cheese and cherries… Yum

Always good. Most of the time great. As they go through a painful reassessment of their processes to pinpoint and eliminate what happened, it is good to remember their commitment to quality products that satisfy both the palate and the imagination. Good luck to them. Can’t wait to see them back up and prospering.

Every time I’m here, my heart is happy.
So many different flavor combinations, all of them fantastic.
It’s all I can do to not jump back in line and go for round two or three.
The raspberry sweet corn is my favorite. Wash it down with some cucumber infused water, and you’ll be in a better mood the rest of the day!

Used to love this place. every time we came to Columbus, we always made a trip to Jeni’s for the last 3 years (a tradition in our family). The last time, I was disappointed. Ever since Jeni’s expanded to other cities (been to their chain inNashville), they are missing their main flavors that they are known for! Mango lassi is one of the best flavors and they no longer carry it in the store but only in grocery stores (or so I was told by the employees). The whole point of going to the main HQ store is to try flavors that isn’t available at the grocery stores or expanded locations.
Don’t think I’ll be making a trip here anymore.

Unfortunatelyi I did not like any of the ice cream The clerks were very nice and let me sample everyone of their ice creams. They did not get upset with me when I did not get any.

First taste of Jeni’s. We are here for a conference from Chicago and we got to sit outside tonight and enjoy music over at Local Roots as it wafted on the breeze over to our table. The ice cream was delish, flavorful and fresh with real fruit. I got the lemon blueberry with pineapple upside down. Oh my. Best idea we have had all week. I heard there is one in Chicago so we will be on the hunt for it, even over our beloved Oberweis ice cream.

Jeni’s is the best. Best, best, best. The flavors are new. Everything I’ve tried is delicious (and I’ve been there at least a dozen times). And this location in particular is in a very charming suburb of Columbus.
It can get a little pricey, especially if you get multiple scoops and flavors. But this downside is outweighed by the deliciousness of it all.
Columbus does have a lot of great ice cream spots. Graeter’s is my other favorite. But Jeni’s is different than your typical big-​scoop ice cream joints. The scoops are smaller, denser, and vividly flavored.
I’m sure other locations are great, but this is the only one I’ve been to! Well, I’ve also been to the one at Northern Market, but that’s not a full separate store.
Highly recommend!

I could never do anything but gush about any Jeni’s location. The Powell store has a similar look and feel inside as all the other Jeni’s, and has a good amount of space to sit and enjoy your ice cream. On the lot itself, there are only a couple parking spots, but it looks like there are other areas of parking that you can walk from. If you have never had Jeni’s and this is the closest location, drop what you are doing and go there now! Between their signature ice creams (like Poached Pear Riesling– my favorite forever) and their creative seasonal flavors, you can’t go wrong. It’s a pricey scoop but so worth it.

I love this location of Jeni’s. If you hit it at the right time, it’s usually a lot less crowded than the other locations. It’s a little further out of the way than some others and the parking isn’t great, but I mean… the ice cream is always worth it. I like this location too because sometimes I like to try the samples of new flavors (like all of them) and I always feel like I am holding up the line, so with this location being a little more secluded, I can take my time and nail down what I really want to try. Most recently, I loved the winter wood collection (the cedar wood vanilla was THE BOMB).

I love this place.
It’s a bit pricey, but you get top notch, handmade ice cream. The flavors change from time to time, bit it’s always fun to try the new tastes!

The flavors are unique, inventive, and wonderful, but then you realize you just liquidated your 401k to buy a tasting flight of ice cream. Jeni’s ice cream is fantastic, let there be no doubt about that, but you will pay a lot of Kroner Notes for a hilariously small amount of ice cream, so be prepared.

I love Jeni’s ice cream. This location is no exception. Located in the heart of downtown Powell. I’d say «don’t blink» but there is a traffic light at the intersection that one always seems to get stopped at. Quite strategic planning on Jeni’s part!
The unique flavors are delicious and fresh. The staff have always been quite helpful with trying samples and deciding what to order. There is a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating areas.
You can find some public parking just a short distance north of the location.

It’s fucking Jeni’s.
Oh, I guess I should elaborate. I bring my kids here — I’m a regular at Local Roots, and this place stares me down every time I leave, so I, being the good single dad I am, reward my sons with trips to Jeni’s for ice cream on Friday nights so we can sit outside and listen to the music across the street.
I don’t know why they don’t have the garage door type windows that can just be rolled up, because this place just seems like it’d pour out to their patio well (which is always full).
Oh — and an added bonus — my youngest has a peanut allergy. So much Jeni’s has nuts in it, that when I mentioned this to the young fella behind the counter, he went in the back to *sterilize* the scoop for me. Awesome.
So — it’s Jeni’s. The staff is great, and the only thing that sucks is parking can be a pain.

Eating ice cream from Jeni’s for the first time is very similar to having sex for the first time. You try a few different things, you’re blown away by how good it is, and you definitely want to have more as often as possible.
Salty Caramel is one of the flavors that despite what your ice cream preference might be, you’ll love this.
Mackenzie Creamery Goat Cheese with Roasted Red Cherries has a name that has scared off many people from trying, including my mother-​in-​law, but once I convinced her to try it, she realized it’s like eating frozen cheesecake and the idea of «goat cheese» isn’t so bad. This is probably my favorite flavor.
Ohio Sweet Corn with Black Rasberries is probably one of the most unique flavors I’ve ever tried and it’s seasonal. Come on, where else can you try corn flavored ice cream and be blown away by how good it is?
Wildberry Lavender is my wife’s favorite and I have to admit that it’s pretty good. It’s like eating the smell of a lavender flower. It smells good, but you know if you ate the flower it wouldn’t taste like it smells… well, Jeni has figured out how to make ice cream taste like the smell of a flower… she’s some kind of taste Ninja that Jeni.
Queen City Cayenne is another the blew me away, but I don’t ever order this one. It’s Chocolate, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper… don’t gasp, it’s actually quite good and has a very interesting flavor profile. First you taste the chocolate, then a few seconds later comes some cinnamon, then you swallow and whoa! There’s the cayenne pepper! Pretty crazy that she even thought to try this, but it works! If I was a fan of spicy food I’d eat this all day.
Brown Butter Almond Brittle is my second favorite flavor. Salty, sweet, and chunks of almond brittle mixed in… it’s like eating brown sugar ice cream. I always get this when it’s available, unfortunately it’s a seasonal flavor so sometimes I have to wait a few months.
On top of the ice cream each shop makes their own waffle cones… if you’re lucky you’ll see them make yours right in front of your eyes before they put your ice cream in it. I highly recommend eating Jeni’s ice cream with one of their waffle cones.
I’m so glad that she finally opened up a shop near me… no more traveling to the Short North just for ice cream (and Grandview before that). Each store is classy and has interesting things throughout, my favorite is the classic milk jug hanging lights – I so want some of these in my kitchen.
Be warned though, once you try Jeni’s ice cream, other ice creams will only taste good to you if you’re on a budget. I can no longer eat at Graeters, UDF, or Denise’s because they all taste like dirt when my mind wonders to the fancy flavors back at my local Jeni’s. Definitely one of the best places in Columbus to go for dessert as well as in the US and probably the world.
And yes, I copied my review of the Dublin Jeni’s…I didn’t think I could write anything better for such a wonderful shop! Love the Powell location, lots of room, good parking, and seating. Eat up!
