After hearing such overwhelmingly positive reviews about this spot, we had to take the trip up from Portland and check it out. Edna and Lucy’s delivered and then some! Cauliflower and Potato soup was best that I’ve ever had, and the sandwiches were incredible. Fries, excellent. Service and ambience were like eating at your aunts cozy cabin. Make the trip, you won’t be disappointed. Oh. And doughnuts. Awesome doughnuts.

Great spot for breakfast on the go or lunch, especially if visiting Bradbury. There is a small, clean seating area if you want to sit. Breakfast: They have they best yeast donuts(plain or cinnamon sugar) and have a breakfast sandwich on focaccia that varies daily and is foil wrapped and ready to take out. Lunch: They have a good selection of sandwiches, salads and homemade soups. It’s not a huge menu but they do have some vegetarian options. I’m not a vegetarian but the honey, pear and goat cheese sandwich is so good! Ingredients are always fresh and service is super friendly. Only downside, they are closed Monday and Tuesday.

Came in to this place based on reviews shared on Unilocal and found the almost universal praise was well justified. Food was fresh and delicious, and the prices were reasonable. Particularly enjoyable was the large eclectic selection of juices, and a coffee bar with several roasts to choose from. The décor was warm and inviting, and my family and I were able to leaf through a thick volume on the last 100 years of Pownal history during our short wait for the food to be prepared. Outstanding local find, and eagerly added to my list of hidden treasures!

WICKEDGOOD!!! The service was super friendly, décor was rustic, tasteful and clean. Plenty of comfortable seating. Quick service and absolutely wicked awesome ‘Rachel’ which is basically a turkey Ruben. I will definitely be back.

Wow! After reading the reviews, I decided to try this place and definitely was not disappointed!!! I got the eggplant sandwich and hands down it was the greatest eggplant anything I’ve ever had. Perfectly cooked, toppings weren’t overwhelming, and the sandwich stayed together well. And the pesto was by far the best pesto I ever had!!! I wish I could’ve bought a jar to take home. They also sell Maine Root Beer products, which was pretty cool. There were doughnuts for sale that smelled incredible and were very fresh(didn’t try them though. The couple who came in after did did loved them). Service was quick, but the place was empty when I got there around 11:30 or so. Counter staff was very polite and friendly also. My boyfriend and I often go to Maine and we have a few mandatory stops of places we really, REALLY like that we visit every time – this was added to the list after the first bite.

We were looking for a local breakfast place and saw other reviews about how great the place was. We decided to give it a go and it was delicious. They offer one breakfast sandwich but it was delicious! Of course we had the donuts too(only two options — plain or cinnamon; donut or twists) and it was so amazing. This place is a hidden gem. Low key but great flavor. Definitely will stop by for lunch next time we’re in town.

I’ve never had a restaurant that serves such great food for such a little price. This place is so cute and I just love their donuts. There sandwiches are superb. I just wish that Edna and Lucy’s restaurant and more publicity. Nothing would make me happier than to see them on the food network or some cooking channel because they deserve it. I wish the best for this restaurant and I urge all of you to try it out for yourself and remember have a fun time.

Have I everyhad a bad meal at Edna and Lucy’?T he answer is no. Are my meals always great? The answer is yes. Delicious, consistent, yummy are words that come to mind when I think of Edna and Lucy’s. Today I shared an eggplant and goat cheese sandwich with my husand(OMG) and had a cup(a large cup I’d say) of vegetarian lentil and mushroom soup(another OMG). Can’t say enough. We shared a table with a party of 6 and they were basically drooling over their food. This place may not be on the beaten path but is definitely worth the trip. It’s only minutes from downtown Freeport.

This wonderful little spot deserves its 5-star rating! My wife and I discovered this little nook on the way to pumpkin picking in New Gloucester(God, I love Maine). The women running the restaurant(Edna and Lucy perhaps?) are friendly and inviting. The place is clean, seating is plentiful both inside and out, and it’s very well kept. You can tell the owners take great pride in their business. Now to the important part: the food! Oh those sandwiches. I had the capicola sandwich with a side of fries. MYGOODNESS. Everything was fresh, delicious, beautifully prepared, and served with a smile. And the price is right too! I cannot recommend this wonderful little spot enough. If you’re in the area, or even if you’re not, you cannot possibly go wrong stopping in to try Edna and Lucy’s.

Ate here today, courtesy of Unilocal while searching for something different in Freeport area. Menu made me want to try them all. It was so good and such fresh ingredients, delicious side pickles, and yes, wonderful pickled onions on the killer roast beef/horseradish sandwich. Regretfully, due to the really, really, really long wait time for food, must subtract a star. Maybe just a statement when ordering that it will be a long wait would be helpful. I will return. Many more fantastic-looking sandwich options to try.

It is always a pleasure to eat at Edna & Lucys! Lunch was a terrific roast beef wrap, with a spinach wrap and the best roast beef evah! And I haven’t even mentioned the greatest french fries I have had in I don’t know how long. Should have had one of their award winning donuts, but after the wrap and the fries and coffee– couldn’t do it. You will never be disappointed at E&L’s. Evah!

Stopped here prior to our hike at nearby Bradbury State Park in Pownal to grab sandwiches & drinks to have lunch at the summit. The gals there were friendly and they offered a decent selection of hot & cold sandwiches; the edge going towards the hot. Salads and plenty of drinks, too; along with a few types of homemade cookies. My roast beef with pickled onions, tomatoes, horseradish mayo, and pickled onions(which really brightened the sandwich) was really good, and my daughter enjoyed the turkey wrap with arugula, cucumber, and roasted red pepper(she opted to forego the chipotle mayo, but I’m sure it would have been great on the wrap) on a spinach tortilla — good stuff. The STAR was the homemade pickles — VERY intense and vinegary — shockingly so, at first — but I couldn’t put them down. I would munch the Hell out of those sitting at a bar. We returned after the hike and got a drink for the ride home. I chose an iced coffee, which was do-it-yourself. An orange pitcher and a container of ice was placed near the hot coffee carafes, and I, like an idiot, assumed the pitcher was creamer and proceeded to fill a cup with ice and HOTCOFFEE. Thinking this was odd, I then looked in the pitcher and found it was full of cold coffee. I told them what I’d done, received a few well-deserved sideways glances, and went on my way. I felt like an idiot, but they were sweet about it — even let me keep the mistakenly-poured(now luke-warm) cup of coffee without charge. I’m sure it was out of pity. We will DEFINITELY be back here; there was more seating than I’d anticipated and the food came out quick. Support local business and stop here yourselves!

Came here with my wife and my parents. While we all have varying tastes, everyone was very satisfied. I got a simple Italian with capicola that was fantastic. The menu offers many healthy choices which made my wife happy and basic options like egg salad for someone less adventurous like my father. He did actually try capers for the first time and loved them. We were very glad to have stopped and highly recommend to anyone who’s looking for some delicious food.

My friend wanted to meet to catch up. Usually I travel from my home office to the«bigger» town or city, but this time, he told me he wanted to «get out of L-A(that’s Lewiston-Auburn for you non-locals). The menu board(a real chalkboard) at Edna and Lucy’s is full of choices from sandwiches of all types, both hot and cold, to salads and soups. I’m a fan of eggplant, so you’d really have to mess up an eggplant sandwich for me not to like it. Even better, when you love eggplant and you have the best eggplant sandwich of your life, then things are pretty damn good at the moment. That was my experience today, at Edna and Lucy’s. Located near the 4-way intersection in Pownal Center with the big olé’ Congregational Church, near Pownal Center Store, and about a ½ mile from Bradbury, as Maine restaurants go, it’s a tad out of the way. Of course, it’s only 5 miles from I-95, and if you’re traveling north/south on Maine central artery, block some time to take a detour at Freeport and head west. If you’re on your way to a meeting, take the risk of being late. Your taste buds will thank you. Back to my eggplant. It was perfectly roasted in olive oil, and combined with lightly blanched spinach, a red pepper pesto, and I believe, pickled onions, with goat cheese, on lightly toasted multigrain bread. Seriously, this was so freakin’ good, I am lacking words to describe it, and I’m a writer! And then there are the donuts and pastries, which I won’t even get into. I don’t know how I resisted their homemade donuts, even though it was lunch time. I should have just had one waiting for my sandwich. The place had much more seating than you’d think looking at it from the outside. In fact, I’d only had take out in the past, and didn’t know about the nice dining room with several tables and bar seating along the window facing Route 9. I’m glad my friend decided to get out of L-A. You should think about getting out of your little rut, too, and head to Pownal Center for some awesome food. Do it on the weekend and you can do some sightseeing, hike Bradbury Mountain, or drive over to Pineland Center, not very far away. Don’t forget, they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Delicious, healthy options and even more delicious, not as healthy but so worth it, French fries. Comfortable setting with terrific, friendly service. Glad it’s so close to our new home!

Can’t say enough good things about this place. Fabulous food, very reasonable prices, and friendly service. After overhearing another patron comment that it was the best donut they had ever had, I tried one and had to agree. The next day I tried a grilled vegetable sandwich and loved it. What a gem!

Stopped here with the kids after a trip to Bradbury Park. We decided to stop here because there was a large sign on the side of the building that screamed«Wicked Good Sandwiches.» Bold statement. I had to put it to the test. I always read about or hear foodies claim to have«meal moments». I never believed them. No way a plate of food could be truly and forreals unforgettable. A simple sandwich in rural Maine made me a believer. I had a visceral reaction to every bite of my turkey wrap. I turned to my husband after each bite to tell him it was the greatest sandwich I had ever eaten. I’m not prone to hyperbole, so he was a little stunned(and annoyed…“you don’t have to say something after every bite, ya know.”). I stopped half-way through with the intention of taking the other half home to be eaten later. That plan lasted approximately 30 seconds. I had to have it all right then. I can’t even begin to tell you about the pickles. I’m pretty sure I may have been audibly moaning over the pickles. The ladies who keep this place going should be incredibly proud. A very large and diverse selection of sandwiches and friendly faces. Go see Edna & Lucy pronto!

This place was recommended to us by locals, and we’re so glad we went. The sandwiches were fantastic and reasonably priced, to boot. I’ve not been to Maine before, but this place kind of screams rural Maine to me. It’s a little red building operated by two old ladies that have been in the area for a long time. There are locals in here often, and that says something. Easily the best sandwich shop in town.
