This review is also for cakes that I’ve been ordering from them on special occasions and they were all delicious. It’s hard to reach them via phone so leave a message and they will call you back. I’ve had their black and white red velvet cake and both were made fresh and moist. I guess $ 30 for the small 7″ is the norm here in Princeton. Can’t find any better cakes around here yet. Service is good but it gets busy during lunchtime.

Great place. Friendly. The people make you feel welcome. Food and pastries are great. From the jalapeño chicken panini to great salads. This place well deserves your business.

Place is slow as s_it two girls working there. will never go back food was ok. Owner sitting outside while customers wait for these two slow pokes. When I asked why it was taking so long they whispered and giggled to each other, Expensive anyway BLT and a bagel with Cream cheese was 15 dollars. Tables are all dirty up front. Get rid of these two boobs before they put you out of business or don’t I won’t be back

After reading all the mixed reviews, I was hesitant to order my birthday cake from here but I took the risk and did anyways. I just kept hoping that it would turn out amazing and it did! I had ordered the mango mousse cake two days in advance. The mango flavor was very distinct and even the icing had hints of mango flavor. The cake itself was moist and light. I did not feel that heaviness one feels after eating a dense cake. The service was also not bad… I did not feel any weird vibes from the people behind the counter. Overall, a nice experience and I would not mind ordering another cake from this bakery for a special occasion.

i got my wedding cake from here based on the reviews, i don’t know if this was just my luck but it was the worst cake i ever had in my life, and people in my wedding told my family that my wedding was perfect except the cake. when i made the order i didn’t speak to the man that i was told was going to make it, the whole time i talked to a server there. I’m not sure if he had an assistant make my cake or not, cuz my wedding cake didn’t taste ANYTHING like the cakes in the store. I paid 1200 for my wedding cake, because i got it made with fondue, the only good thing about the cake was that it looked nice thats about it. I was beyond embarrassed in my wedding when i looked at the tables and saw everyone hadn’t eaten their cakes cuz it was so bad.

They made a cake with 5 days notice and it looked exactly like the picture I had shown them. Not to mention the cake was delicious and I kept getting compliments throughout the whole birthday party. I would definitely use this bakery again.

absolutely love and often crave their almond croissant. their cakes? nah. they are overly moist and light? not the dense and rich kind I like. I’d say stick to their breakfast baked goods!

Chez Alice catered our wedding yesterday and the food came out great. Everyone enjoyed, the quality of the food and the expertise of its preparation was just outstanding. We recommend the Thai chicken, ginger beef and the salmon for appetizers. All the entrées came out great and the pasta bar was a hit.

Solid lunch spot for a quick bite while visiting Princeton. Really torn between a three & a four. My salad, the Cape Cod, was a four, but it was kinda pricey at almost $ 9, and it came in a very light plastic bowl that wobbled so badly when I tried to cut my lettuce into bite-sized chunks that it was very hard to keep the salad from flying onto the floor while cutting. Maybe no one else cuts their salad, so if not, this won’t be a problem for you! Bowl issues aside, the salad was pretty large and filling. After being on the road for a while now, it was really nice to have a lighter, fresh meal. My son ordered the Chipotle Chicken Ranch Wrap. He enjoyed it and thought he chipotle sauce had good flavor. It didn’t come with anything though, so again a tad pricey. It’s a cute little establishment with a few small tables at which to enjoy your meal. I bought some muffins(Lemon Poppyseed & French Toast) to go as well and they were very good. Much better than your standard grocery store/convenience muffin. The french toast muffin even lasted til the next day and still tasted yummy.

I bought a cake yesterday, the PRALINE, which according to Alice’s website contains«layers of hazelnut cake, chocolate truffle and hazelnut cream with cinnamon.» Let along the hazelnut cream was not smooth enough and artificially sweet, the cake was as sour as white vinegar and smelled like if it has gone bad. Plus, there was a small green spot found on the sponge cake layer. We end up returning the cake today and got a refund. The store explains as the hazelnut cream was from last inventory(don’t know if it means the cream has gone bad), and they just got a new inventory of hazelnut cream today. Very disappointing :(

Amazing Cakes! I ordered two cakes the day before me and my fiancé’s graduation and the guy there was very helpful and worked with me to make the best last minute cake! I loved both of them when I picked them up. And the cakes tasted PHENOMENAL! One was chocolate mousse and the other was mango mousse! My entire family raved about them! Thank you so much

My review of Chez Alice is based exclusively off a $ 30 cake I purchased from them. Despite the lacklustre reviews from others, though, I thought it was great. I’m typically not a huge fan of cakes in general(I skip out at almost every birthday party), but what we ordered(a white chocolate raspberry cake) was delicious. Meticulously layered, moist, beautifully adorned, and featuring fresh raspberries… it was a winner.

This review is mainly for their wedding cakes. If you have the choice, go somewhere else! I wasn’t too impressed by my visit to the café during regular business hours, either; tables felt cramped, dirty, and not a relaxing environment at all. When I do eat cake, I prefer it to be dense, chewy, with thick fudge or cream cheese frosting. I’ve had my share of too-moist American cakes and too-airy Chinese cake. Chez Alice’s cake is like an American take on a Chinese cake, which is truly the worst of both worlds. We were forced to get our wedding cake from here due to the venue’s contract with this bakery. I was reluctant to order a wedding cake, but was finally pressured into it. Chez Alice were willing to work with us since we were ordering the cake last minute, but they told us for a cake our size they don’t offer tastings(this disclaimer was nowhere to be found on their wedding cake information sheet). So to do our own tasting, we bought a slice of the black and white and a slice of the opera. We didn’t like either of them. I thought the cakes were oddly wet, the frosting too cloyingly sweet. Still, I was resigned to the fact that our wedding would have a cake. We figured the buttercream frosting would improve the taste. I also chose the red velvet cake after it was recommended by their staff. Our cakes are different than other wedding cakes, I was told. At the end of the night you’ll have guests asking where you got your cake. Let me tell you that the above never happened at all. Quite the opposite, in fact. We didn’t like our cake. my immediate famly didn’t like the cake, and the friends of my immediate family told them that they didn’t like theirs either. About the only good thing about the cake was that it looked pretty. My husband chose a basket weave design, and they embellished it with raspberries. A lot of people gave compliments on the appearance. But, it resulted in a wedding cake that was no more than a prop. The actual cake slices were limpid. The frosting was bland and the texture was slimy. The flavors didn’t impress at all, especially the red velvet which was disappointing. I was wrong to have higher expectations when ordering from a bakery in downtown Princeton. It is fine that we were able to cut a cake, I guess, but I do regret spending ~$ 300 on a cake that was ultimately something I’d rather forget.

The cakes here are always… okay. There’s something cheap-tasting about the frostings here, although the cakes are nice and moist. The raspberry/chocolate mousse cake is pretty good, the mango one is okay, the chocolate hazelnut is also okay. They all have a one-note sweetness that doesn’t feel very rich or satisfying to me. I also find their peach tart off-putting. Peach tart is supposed to have a delicious buttery crust, but their’s is soggy. And their peaches aren’t plump, and it’s coated with way too much gelatinous glaze. You can honestly skip Chez Alice if you’re just visiting. Unfortunately, there aren’t many other places in Princeton to get cakes, so you might have to come here if you need to pick something up for a special day or event.

I’m kind of picky with my espressos… Correction, I’m exceptionally picky with them. Chez Alice served up one that was hand packed and actually had a bit of crème… wasn’t short like I asked, but wasn’t bitter either, and I have profound respect for a restaurant that doesn’t try to cover bad espresso with fruit rind… The beans should stand on their own, and at chez Alice, they do. We had cake as well, which was a little sweet for my taste, but then again, it is carrot cake so I suppose that one is on me. Tl;dr worth a try for coffee

4 stars for cake. The mango mousse cake is light and delicious without being too sweet. I didn’t like the chocolate cake as much. 3 stars for the rest of the food. Got the grilled chicken panini which was extremely measly and disappointing. There was like one piece of tomato and a tiny bit of spinach over chicken and lots of sauce. The soup was very average. The best thing was the cape cod salad, which had a nice balance of tangy from the orange, and salty from the cheese and sweet from the grapes. But it seemed overpriced for what it was. Stick with the cakes and you’ll be fine.

Snookie watch out, there’s a new Jersey girl in town. And J-WOWW? This is AlexRhymz, so now it’s all about the A-WOWW! Fresh from my former long-term abode of London, England. To Princeton, my new home, looking for some foodie friends. I’m a serious Unilocaler on the prowl. Ready to bring a smile and a friendly rhyme, no scowl. A newbie to Jerz and the ‘boro, alas, I’ve left Borough Market behind. Adding a Princetonian cap, meeting new foodsperiences with an open mind. Originally Dartmouth gowned and hereby and forever Big Green Keggy crowned. No class clown, just scouting out good food about the town. Now my eye’s on the Orange Tiger. No gastronome, but I’ve been around. I do need lunch every now and then, otherwise I’ll have a slight melt-down. Which brings me to this particular day. When I stumbled upon Chez Alice, a lovely little restaurant and bakery. Imagine my chagrin and surprise. When I caught sight of Alice, stars in my eyes. Stomach growling, ghrelin howling, blood sugar like whoa. And I’d been eating too much Panera, so my funds were low. Saw a white board with lunch specials that made me think. They were highlighted with different colored Sharpie ink. Peeked inside first, to avoid being hoodwinked. Glorious, sandwiches and salads galore! Brekkie and lunch offerings on the menu which lie before. Diverse wraps, hot panini, pastries, to the selection I grant a vigorous nod. Gourmet salads: Greek, Caesar, Cobb, Chef, Spinach and the Cape Cod. Coffee, espresso, and other crafted drinks on the menu, though I did not try them. Have to admit, I would certainly return — but not solely to buy them. I went for the Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato. Also it comes with mayonnaise(Dijon mustard in my case), and Avocado. On toasted multigrain, toppings piled high, tasty, hot and fresh. As I looked around the restaurant, with other diner’s dishes, I was equally impressed. Now this BLT-A Was very tasty, hey. Service fast and friendly with no fuss, meal was nice. That I returned the next day, only to order it twice. Options include crisps(chips), rather limited sides, which stinks. However, an intimidating rotation of refrigerated drinks. But the thing that really takes the cake. Is their selection of sweeties and delicious bakes. Pastries sliced, cakes diced into pieces and whole, and I suspect, cupcakes. Chocolate, red velvet, strawberry, vanilla, the Chez will do whatever it takes. Now my purview is limited here. But the sweet treats looked delicious, my dear. I only went for the savoury. But I’d love a baked good to have it’s way with me. Next time! Chez Alice is a delight. When you hit Palmer Square, off Nassau, try it, alright?!

I don’t have anything bad to say about this place; their baked goods are amazing and te breakfast food is great. I go down the road for better coffee, but love stopping here for brunch(absolutely suggest a bacon egg and cheese on a croissant, and their red velvet cupcake is amazing!), or picking up a birthday cake for someone(flourless chocolate or carrot). The cakes are certainly a bit more expensive, but are better than I’ve had anywhere else around.

Good food. but overpriced. just over $ 10 for a small vegetable and mozzarella panini with a bottle of iced tea. I live in a city(so I’m someone who is use to over paying for food). but this place is just a bit too expensive(for the quantity) to make me want to return.
