Cute place to get some casual comfort food. The scenery is lovely, and the décor is like a ski lodge. Every single person who served us was delightful and our prime rib was worth writing about. Yum!

I’ve been there only once recently. The waitress was prompt and very friendly, she did everything right. Unfortunately, the dish I had was just middle of the road. It’s always crowed so they must be doing something right. May give another shot when I find myself in the area.

My wife and I dined at this restaurant on Sunday Oct. 18 at approximately 1:00PM. Haven’t been there in about six months. She had the baked haddock and I the prime rib and both meals were just plain terrible. To start off with the salads were wilted and the dressings in the containers were old because they had a dried film starting to form on the covers. The haddock just looked unappetizing because the fish was old dark and grey colored. The prime rib was so grizzly and full of tendons that I couldn’t even chew it. Both baked potatoes looked like last evening’s…so old, dried and wilted and no butter served with them. And to boot, the prime rib was listed at $ 13.49 on the menu and I was charged $ 15.49. When I brought it to the attention of our waitress, she points to a piece of paper special stating that there was a $ 2.00 «surcharge» for the shrimp and prime rib. That’s pretty interesting and deceiving since I don’t even look at the specials menu. Why didn’t they put a price change sticker on the main menu or at least tell the servers to inform the guests when ordering. This is not the same quality that I can remember. Is this place on its way out too?

Best prime rib in Worcester County! Can’t beat the price and the piece is huge! I highly recommend asking for Cajun rub on the side makes it pop! Fish and chips are great as is the cordon blue! Prices are super reasonable. Expect a wait at 6 – 7:30! Best local place!

Good solid food, nice staff. Many patrons are frequent locals who all know each other but it wasn’t uncomfortable as an outsider.

First trip to the Mountain Barn after hearing rave reviews. This is a all-around fun place. The scenic views from the many large wi dows are breathtakimg. The antiques and collectables on the walls and rafters are facinating. Everyone, staff and patrons, are friendly and laughter blended with the converstations. The menu is family friendly. There ia a good selection to pick from. Our table had Bourbon grilled salmon, baby back ribs, chicken parm, a cheeseburger, steak and prime rib. Everyone loves their meals and portjons are NOT small. Reservations are for groups of 8 or more only. We waited 40 minutes for six people. There is a loft lounge with comfy chairs and sofas arranged for small groups to sit and talk. Drinks can be brought up from the bar if you want. Very nice really. This is now on my «must go back» list.

Love this place! Used to go weekly before life got too busy. I still visit at least once a month. I’ve never had a bad meal here. Prices are very reasonable, particularly for the Princeton area. Service can vary depending on server, but this can be said of just about any place and most of my experiences have been outstanding. One thing I’ve noticed in reviews is people complaining about waiting for a table and the limited size of the bar. It is a very busy place on Friday and Saturday nights, so either get their early or plan on waiting for a table. You can make reservations for parties of six or more. I recommend going on a Thursday evening or a Sunday mid-afternoon if you don’t want to wait at all. If you go when it’s busier and have to wait, there’s a really nice loft upstairs where you can enjoy a beverage while you wait for your table. Overall, great spot and I recommend you check it out.

The Mountain Barn is a great family restaurant. Great staff and service. They are always accomodating to any special requests. Although the Mountain Barn is a pretty good ride from Ashby, it is our«go to» restaurant. Never disappointed and always satisifed. Excellent Prime Rib with baked stuffed shrimp, nice salad, baked potato and oven-fresh hot rolls. Great value, great food, great service!

I’ve ordered from me on multiple occasions. Have had the ribs, chicken parm. Buffalo quesadillas just as some examples. Have have been great. Very great pricing as well. After eating here, I was comfortably full. Always good food. Never any issues. When you call to order out, they make feel like your calling a friend. Not so robatic. Its nice. If you get a thing announcing hours, it just means they are on the line with someone, you got to call again. I state this because, I thought they were closed. But then someone told me why it does that. Great place to stop after climbing MT. Wachusett.

The food is good every time that we go here but I especially love the seared tuna with Asian slaw. It’s fantastic, not the type of meal I typically get and I dream about going back for more. It’s sesame seed coated and light. Satisfying and full of flavor. It’s only on their specials menu but it’s so popular it’s been a special for a year now. The prices are reasonable and portions are very good!

We have been to the Mountain Barn 3 times and have never been disappointed. The prices are reasonable, the food is very good and always great service. We were there this past Sunday as we took my Mom out for dinner. Our waitress Meagan was very attentive and had a great personality. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

This is a restaurant that is near where I grew up and my family still lives. I remember going there several times when I was younger and it was just fine. Unfortunately, with age also comes an increase in awareness. As I have gotten older, I realize that every time I go to the Mountain Barn its a disappointment. However, my most recent experience was the worst and I hope to never go back. It started with an extremely long wait(60+ minutes). Since all the seats in the bar were taken by people waiting, and I was there to celebrate an event with my mother and aunt, I told them to go upstairs to the loft and I would get their drinks. You see, there is plenty of run-off seating for the bar upstairs, but no wait service. I stood at the bar for several minutes while the visibly unfriendly bartender chatted with what seemed like regulars. When she finally came over, I attempted to order 2 drinks. She immediately snapped at me that I couldn’t order two drinks if I was alone. When I explained to her that my mother and aunt were upstairs, she said«Yeah right… prove it.» When I said, «excuse me?» She dared me to go get them. I just smirked and walked away. Apparently this bartender is so concerned about binge drinking that she won’t allow a 30 year old to by a drink for his mother. When we were finally seated, our waitress couldn’t remember the specials and took forever to get our drinks. We ordered fried calamari as an appetizer. It was by far the worst I’ve ever had. It was the saltiest thing I’ve ever had. It was honestly as if it was breaded in salt. For my meal, I ordered the steak special(once she remembered what it was). Turn’s out that it was the fattiest steak ever. There may have been more fat than actual meat. In addition to this, my aunt’s meal was prepared incorrectly twice. Unfortunately, the ambiance was as bad as the meal. The Mountain Barn is ALWAYS extremely loud. The tables are too close together and therefore it always feel uncomfortably crowded. The whole evening ended with me asking my mother«Why do you guys still come here?»

I came here last week with a group of nine for a special occasion. We hadn’t made reservations and had to wait for 30 minutes in the bar area. It was kind of fun, there were posters and quirky art all of the walls. I couldn’t figure out what the theme of the restaurant was. I’m split between Wild West, log cabin, old Railway Station. Anyways, it was an interesting mix. The service was pretty good. Down home, friendly waitress. I can’t decide if she was racist or if that’s just how they treat brown people in Western Massachusetts. They brought out rolls and we shared mozza sticks. I ordered the haddock and chips($ 14). Everything was okay. Not a stand out restaurant. I was expecting the fish to be really yummy because we were only 2 hours from the ocean. Somehow, the atmosphere suggested to me a restaurant with simple but delicious food. And it was, kind of. I feel that they were more packed because of the location. There is really nothing else in the area if you’re looking for a sit down experience. And the Mountain Barn overlooks a beautiful valley — the view is gorgeous.

My family, some family friends and I dined at the Mountain Barn this evening to celebrate my birthday… I was more disappointed than I have ever been in a restaurant. Several tables were excessively loud and were being over-served alcohol. They were very obviously drunk and their waitress kept serving them. It was negligent and the people were confrontational with other tables. The waitress we had was also serving the table of drunks, and while she kept bringing their drinks out every 15 minutes, she had to be asked more than three times to refill one of our fellow diners coffee. We all know the tips on a large amount of alcohol are more than on coffee! I also agree with the other reviewer who was expressing how unhappy they were about being charged several times for refills on drinks. That is pathetic. Is the business in that bad a condition? I will never patronize your restaurant again!!! The behavior of the waitress and the clientele was disgusting. It used to be a decent place, now there are so many better choices. You need to train your waitresses and bartenders to be better. also, should the man who was drunk, laughing like a hyena, celebrating his 40th birthday with his two buddies and the three hookers read this, you should be ashamed of yourself. Threatening my father, two senior citizens, complaining that your party was ruined… I hope you aren’t allowed out of your cage again and maybe in your forties you will learn some manners.

This is an old favorite of mine. Buried in the woods alongside Route 31 in Princeton, the Mountain Barn is a roadside comfort zone that anybody in the area should check out. Their menu is HUGE. I’ve tried many items upon it, and they’ve all been delicious. The service is always a bunch of fun, and the ambiance combines a warm, log cabin vibe with that of a roadside destination in the middle of nowhere(there are authentic gas station signs hanging around the joint just to add to the feel). It’s a fun place to explore, too; in addition to the restaurant, there’s a loft and a bar(that was converted from an old horse stable). The prices are fair, the portions are great, and it’s perfect for adults as well as the whole family. I ate here as a toddler, and I drink here as an adult. It’s always been a great time, no matter what my age.

Three words to describe this place– «Very nice atmosphere.» The Mountain Barn is a small little get-together place in Fitchburg, MA, not far from Worcester, MA. I stopped here on 3÷19÷10 for a quite a good experience. Let’s review, shall we? Wait times– A bit long. not bad if you have family or a nice book however. You can get drinks while you are waiting so don’t worry about thirst. There is not a lot of chairs however. Wait when I went was 45 – 50 minutes but went by fast. Service– Pretty good. The waittress we had was attentive but not annoyingly attentive. Foods– Good selection. Everything from the basic pasta to the ribs. I had the ribs. They were good, but had a lot of cartilage. Pretty good though. Dessert– Just a simple cup of mint chocolate chip. But I have to tell you, it was mighty fine thank you very much. Anyway, this place is pretty darn good and worth the wait. Stop in if you are in the area. S.O.
