I was excited to see TerraCycle smack dab in the middle of Palmer Square… appearing to be a refreshing respite from the stuffy hoity toity shoppes of Princeton! Love their merchandise and the whole concept. Me and a friend came in one afternoon as I was finishing some birthday shopping for a couple of early January birthdays The store was empty and as the saleswoman shadowed us through the store we asked questions about the products, but she seemed all along to be put out and provided minimal answers. As I looked at one of TerraCycles larger very pretty handbags made from M&M wrappers, I thought it would make a great unique gift for my Mom’s birthday, as she love bags and has a penchant for green. The price was not marked, I figured it to be maybe $ 200-$ 250, which seemed reasonable for the quality and work involved. This led to the final exchange I had with the salewoman: Me: This M&M bag is very cool, I love the way it looks. How much is it? Saleswoman:(dismissive) Oh that’s alot Me:(pausing) Alot… how much is alot? Saleswoman: It’s like a hundred and some. I’m sorry, was that an insult? Did she think I looked like the type that would be shocked by a fancy-shmancy«hundred and some» dollar purse? At this point the urge welled up inside of me to just go off on this woman and her attitude… but my head prevailed, I raised an eyebrow at her, and simply walked out the door, wondering what had just happened. If she had an opposite and more friendly attitude, I likely would have purchased said purse for a fair price that day. Excuse me, but how could a company with such a down-to-earth exterior portray itself as something so exclusive they are only interested in wealthy customers of the highest perceived pedigree? Give me a friggin break. You better look and act rich when you shop at TerraCycle in Princeton, or else you might be put in your place. TerraCycle — awesome business concept. However, even though I know this is Princeton, loose the dick attitude, it’s bad for business.

I love TerraCycle! They have great products that are well made and they are eco-friendly by taking usually un-recyclable items out of the waste stream through their brigade program. Great place to get unique gifts for anyone on your list or something cool for yourself. Check out the trash wall! Shows you all the«trash» you can bring in that they will then turn into new products. Also you can get a discount for bring in your waste packaging.
