Chef Ho’s has been on the Hill for close to a decade at this point. And while some reviews seem to be pro-food and some anti-food, I think the reason that Ho’s is really here is their drinks. We recently sampled Chef Ho’s on the Federal Hill Stroll, and admittedly I did not enjoy the food they had offered(rice and I think chicken?) HOWEVER, the line was probably the longest on the street because everyone was using their drink tickets at Ho’s. We both agreed that we wouldn’t likely get take out from here in the future, but we would in fact stop in for drinks after work on Fridays!

Admittedly I am only giving this a 5 star because I feel that other reviews have been unfair. Really a 4 star in my mind. I am from Hong Kong and then Toronto before living in Providence. I am pleasantly surprised to find a restaurant(believe me I’ve tried many places in RI/MA) that had dishes that meet my Cantonese palette. I came here and ordered the Yeung Chow fried rice, because that is my go to dish at any Chinese restaurant. Pure unadulterated quality. I have brought my other Chinese friends here and they too can’t get over how good this fried rice is. Let me tell you something about fried rice. The usual crap that is American take-out fried rice is the soy-sauce fried, brown piles of mush with peas and carrots. Please no. The picture I see for Chef Ho’s is Carrie Diandazuri D’s order and that’s the travesty I’m describing. THATISNOTCHINESEFRIEDRICE. I get it. This stuff sells because soy sauce is an easy sell in America. It’s also cheap. I get it. Do yourself a favor and order the Yeung Chow fried rice if you actually want to try Canto cuisine. Jasmine rice fried in a wok over an open flame with Chinese BBQ pork and shrimp, with(don’t remember but uh…) lettuce and egg. The rice comes out slightly brown and the remaining oil gleams in the light as expected. Granted, fried rice is still fried rice and it’s not like it’s gonna blow your mind or anything, but it tasted like home and that is saying something. I have also tried their Singapore rice noodles(vermicelli) and it also meets my standard. Hunan beef was tasty but I’ve had better. I implore you to try ordering off the«dinner combo» menu for once. General Tso’s chicken isn’t a thing outside of America. Looking at some of the pictures that have been posted, I’m really glad I didn’t try those common«American-Chinese» items here because I would have missed out. All the other reviewers who tried such bastardized items and then gave ½ stars are scumbags.

This is not Chinese Food at all… but anyway, it might suit well for American.

Always my first choice for delivery. They come quick, they always bring your order and they’re prices are good. The food is also really tasty, my favorite veggie egg rolls of all Chinese spots! I recommend it to anyone in the city looking for quick and hot take out!

Overall not bad. I ordered my dinner online thru Unilocal and it was a very easy experience which worked out well! I ordered the Chicken finger combination plate which came with fried rice and an eggroll. Eggroll was great, chicken fingers were long, thick batter with a thin slice of chicken inside, fried rice was a very small portion and pretty dry. I also ordered the Chicken Lo-mein. Noodles were thick and pretty good, veggies still had a crunch, overall it could have used more sauce. I got an order of beef teriyaki which was the star of the meal! It was juicy and tender and tasted really good! I wish I ate those first so I could have eaten more of them. Packing was great all packed up nicely, no spillage, forks, plates, sauces all included. Delivery was around 30 minutes which was under the estimated time originally given when I placed my order. I was able to confirm my order was placed and in the works via the link sent to my email. I would give them another try.

Spectacularly ordinary Chinese food in a place that is in serious need of a really deep clean. If you put the light switch from the bathroom in a pot of hot water and added the lucite card holder from the table, you could make soup. Seriously, noticeably dirty. Even had a big drip of duck sauce pressed for posterity in between the pages of my menu. Just, yuck.

It’s close, delicious and consistent. The scallion pancakes are delicious. They also give enough for left overs, etc. The delivery is very fast and the fact that they deliver to our area is amazing, and kinda rare. I can’t say enough good things. The only bad thing is regarding online delivery, if you write in specifics, they will most likely not be followed. I honestly can’t remember what we specified one time, and it wasn’t incredibly important or allergy related, but it was clearly ignored.

Super fast delivery, awesome vegetable lo mein and curry chicken. The chicken isn’t scary as it can be as some American Chinese places. The lo mein noodles are different than what I’m used to but absolutely delicious. I’ve been having problems finding a place around federal hill that does lo mein right — a lot of places around here do this sort of healthy, lite-sauce lo mein which is completely against the founding philosophy of delicious, saucy unhealthiness that makes American Chinese food great. Spicy mustard is VERY spicy — a little too much for me but good flavor and packs a punch.

Walked into the restaurant around 10PM after my run… I was in my shorts and polo, felt that the lady at the restaurant didn’t like this sight in the first place… It is definitely not a fancy sit down restaurant and had a casual air which is why I decided to go in those clothes… She immediately said that they can’t take my order — I told them to do a take away which they agreed to… The younger lady at the reception called another elderly lady who asked me, «What do you want?»… After confusing myself, «I would like to have some food»… And her next question was, «Know you want dinner, what do you want?»… I said, «If you give a menu, I can order» With great difficulty, I could convey what I wanted… Was keen on getting something packed and head back to my room and ordered General Tsao’s chicken which was very sweet and dripping in the honey sauce… I ordered this because it was tagged spicy! There was a question on rice which I heard as white rice but realized that it was pork fried rice when I got to the room… Packing was good… Quantity of food is sufficient for one person… When I was leaving the owner was polite and asked me to call in advance so that she can get stuff made… I was disappointed with the service and the taste of my dish… With so many options on the same street, I doubt whether I will go back in here…

4 stars in the take away Chinese category. When nothing else was open during the first big snowstorm of this year, I finally had a reason to check out Chef Ho’s. I’ve been meaning to give them a try, but since I only eat Chinese food a few times a year, it’s taken me a while to get around to it. The food was you average Chinese take out food. I ordered the General Tso’s chicken to go. The portion of the chicken was HUGE, enough for 3 – 4 meals, easily. However, the rice portion was small — only really enough for 1 big meal. I wonder if the ratio would be the same if you ate there. I went there to order and while I waited got to bond with 2 other brave souls out during the storm that were both regulars there and one of the owners. Everyone was nice and welcoming. Definitely added to my neighborhood storm experience.

Well there’s a reason the food is cheap… because it’s cheap quality. Egg drop soup… very watered down Chicken and rice soup… way too much rice basically absorbed all the broth Dumplings…dough to pork ratio is ridiculous. You basically get a big chunk of dough with a little pork in the center Shrimp fried rice… don’t get the shrimp if you’re grossed out by poop veins. they don’t devein. On the plus side the delivery was fairly quick and well organized.

Standard American Chinese. I order from here for my kids and me about once every two weeks. Every item we have ever ordered is consistent and good, except for the Vegetable Lo Mein, which is greasy and lacks vegetables. The one thing this place does REALLY well is delivery. It is FAST, neatly packed up always with plenty of sauces. I always ask for no MSG. If you don’t, they add it to their dishes.

Best General Tso’s chicken I’ve ever had!!! Slightly crunch, all white meat and slightly breaded… just how I like it! I also like it spicy, so I will make sure to have them make it hotter. Also, the boneless spare ribs are good, not all hard like most places! The only thing I didn’t like was the egg roll. I hate celery and these are filled with it lol I haven’t eaten here in yearrrrs, but the place and quality of food hasn’t changed, which is a good thing! I also wish they would relocate already!!! Parking sucks!

After dancing the night away at the Providence Preservation Society’s Winter Bash Prom, I had a hankering for chicken wings and Chinese Food. Upon advice from a friend I tried Chef Ho’s. The online ordering system on Unilocal made it so easy and the food arrived in just over 30 minutes(a little long, perhaps, considering that I live 5 blocks away). At just over $ 20 with tip, I’ll make at least 3 meals out of it. I ordered the Peking chicken wings appetizer and the beef and broccoli combo, which came with an egg roll and pork fried rice. This is the best wings value I’ve come across anywhere in a long time. They are the plumpest, juiciest and tastiest wings you will have in Providence. Although fried, they weren’t greasy. And the carton was packed with them. The egg roll was really good, although it was soggy from sitting in the sauce from the beef dish. Much better than most, though, because it had plenty of pork inside. The duck sauce was delicious. Home made, I think… The beef and broccoli was tasty and there was easily enough for 2 people. The only disappointment was the pork fried rice. There was very little pork and no peas or other veggies. The color was also just too brown. It looked more like rice-a-roni of some kind. It was not that tasty either and I probably will ask for white rice next time. All in all, a good experience. I’ll try it again… after the next party perhaps!

Although Federal Hill is known for their Italian food, we decided to get Chinese instead and this is where Chef Ho joined the conversation. Chef Ho is not amazing Chinese food, but it was still pretty good and met my Chinese food craving. The meal started off on a high note. The hot and sour soup was great and the crab Rangoon were good as well(nothing special though). After the soup and the app the meal declined to ok. I went with the General Tso’s chicken and was not overly impressed. It was good but the chicken to batter ratio was not that great although the sauce had a nice flavor. The fried rice that came with it was good and not overcooked. On a side note, the bottled beer selection was less than fresh. My friend and I both got beers that were past the freshness date. They still tasted like beer but it was still disconcerting. When I started writing this review, I wanted to give it 3 stars but at the end of the day although I was not disappointed with the meal, I was also not over thrilled with it either. I’m not going to go out of my way to come here again but if friends want to come here the dinning experience was good enough that I would come back, I would just not go with a battered chicken dish this time.
