I used these reviews to check out the salon and was beyond unimpressed. I believe a woman by the name of Lori did my hair. They scheduled me for a cut when I specifically asked for a curl for a wedding(they even confirmed for a curl on my voicemail). The woman doing my hair made me feel so bad about it and was so rude about HER mix up that I almost felt like crying. After she was done complaining she said she would just use me as practice for a hair style she was going to use on an upcoming bride’s. She proceeded by teasing my hair into a big rat’s nest. By the time I got out of there my hair had looked like I had just rolled out of bed. Luckily my friend was able to wash out all the crap she put into my hair and just did a simple curl like I had originally asked for. For the price you pay there are far better salons out there.

I left my old salon back from my home town because I felt like they were styling my hair like I was still a teenager and not a woman. I went to M Squared because my coworkers friend is a stylist there. Usually when someone recommends someone to me, I will give them the chance, but am usually disappointed. But Vanessa is AMAZING! I always go here now. She listens to what you want, offers suggestions and makes sure you are satisfied. She provides a great experience for a woman’s hour or so to herself whether you want to sit back and relax, or socialize. And of course her hair is always fabulous. Vanessa might be young, but she is very talented and the reason why I go back there. PS. she is also an amazing singer!

I went for about 6 months trying to justify going. I had recently moved from LA and had brought with my pictures of my hair cut, colors to try to match from my old salon, all in the hopes that I just wouldn’t be butchered. It is always hard to find and trust a new stylist, so I went to M Squared after reading all of the reviews on City Search. The salon itself is very nice. Cute and clean, friendly front office staff — so that was really a great start. I was able to get an appointment easily and went with one of the stylest known for working with curly-want to wear straight hair. She was nice enough, «listened to my thoughts/wants», and made me feel comfortable in the salon. However, here’s where it went bad. My hair was straight around above the shoulders(think Gwyneth Paltrow’s recent cut) and when I came out… it was a bob! Not all short hair is a bob! So of course, I went home and straightened it myself and made it work. It was this, I can make it work mentality that I know I should’ve recognized right away, but hey — mistakes are made. She also decided to turn my slightly brightened blonde hair into more bleached platinum blonde. It was when I finally went home for the holidays, and went to my old stylist, that I realized how much my hair was not what I wanted it to be. She fixed my length and layers, and toned down my hair to be more natural. So, its a nice salon, just not one you can give a little guidance and actually get what you want. I should have been more prepared to walk her through step by step, but looking back on it I don’t even know if that would’ve helped the situation. Parking is also a pain with it being located on the hill, but usually you can find local street parking — just get there a bit before your appointment.

I’m extremely loyal to MSquared and their exceptional stylists. I have been a client and friend for a decade, before they opened this location on Federal Hill, and have referred many, many, many people here. Their hair artistry is something they take very seriously, as they understand their clients are walking advertisements. Beautiful coloring, flawless cuts, and a lively, energetic atmosphere filled with chatter and lots of laughter. I have literally handed out hundreds of MSquared business cards with my name on the back, because people stop me everywhere to ask about my hair. Run — don’t walk — and tell them Beth V sent you.

Stephanie does a wonderful job with my curly/wavy hair, and knows how to layer so that it accentuates the curl and removes weight, but doesn’t look like several different haircuts! Very reasonably priced too, compared to other places – I think I pay $ 50. The salon is nice too, with good music and coffee/tea.

Great location, hard to find parking though. They have a clean, friendly atmosphere. I just went in for a trim, but will most likely go again.

M Squared is an excellent salon! It even got voted best of RI. I go to Melissa and she is wonderful. I’ve been seeing her for over three years and have never stayed with a stylist that long before. She always get my hair right and listens to how I see it, even it its completely different then last idea I had. Only thing I do not like and its a super small thing is the horrible music they play, but on the upside there are lots of magazines, free coffee, snacks and water :)
