The absolute scumbags that own this place are dirty, corrupt people who solicit cash kick backs from tow truck drivers. My boyfriend mistakenly parked in one of their designated spots… which was admittedly our fault. They hooked my car up on a tow truck and told us that«we can settle it» with cash and avoid impound… I wish my boyfriend did not give into their illegal suggestion and give the tow truck truck driver money… because I would rather pay double to impound than line a scumbags pockets with cash that he doesn’t pay taxes on… but I have to take a deep breath and remind myself I am in Providence and everyone is crooked and corrupt… I wouldn’t go to their dirty establishment if they paid me… enjoy the cash kick back!!! And to the tow truck driver enjoy OSHA, the AG, DMV, Prov PDDBR, And the news coverage =)

Unfortunately, this Establiment doesn’t respect Minority business. Which is very sad due to the fact my friends and i use to Patronize Jamrs and TelaViv. I was In there one night and over heard Ownership refer to black males as «Jeromes» and pulled up a racist website and began cracking jokes using derogatory racial slurs, bigotry, bragadosha and ignorance. I am very disappointed and will never step foot In this type of racist 1961 environment again

an establishment that is supposed to be professional & discriminates against someone strictly because of their orientation is WRONG. the staff’s attitude & actions last night were hateful & offensive. i am saddened to learn a friend of mine was treated so poorly & forced to leave for no other reason than that she is gay. this is heartbreaking. no one should be treated that way.

Shameful treatment of patrons if they don’t like your«type». They discriminated against a friend of mine and threw her out for no good reason.

I will not attend this place ever. I rated one star because Unilocal would not allow zero stars Last night, they allegedly treated a friend of mine very poorly, bordering on what could be assessed as assault simply for being an openly gay woman. Definitely not a GLBTQ friendly establishment. Hopefully word of this mistreatment extends in such a way that it impacts business negatively. It’s 2015… get with the times and ditch the homophobia.

I used to love this place, but ever since Annie left, the place has died. The bartenders are more interested in talking to their friends then pay attention to the patrons. They rather sit on the coolers and text on their phone then make drinks. One night my boy friend and I were there and the bartender literally complained because we wanted the check and she was in the middle of flirting with some guy. I get so disrespected, that I left a $ 1.00 tip(and I always tip ATLEAST20%) and I have never returned.

This place has definitely gone down hill. I definitely now consider this place to be one of the worst hookah bars I’ve ever been to. I have gone quite a few times over the past couple of years. The first few times made me fall in love with the place which was probably about a little over a year ago. The staff was great along with the hookahs. They have gotten a completely different wait staff since then and the past three of four times I’ve gone the service was horrible. They were rude and never came to check up on how everything was going. They are clueless when It comes to the food menu and drinks and have no idea how to answer any of the questions I had. The hookahs are now way too harsh and flavorless. And I have no choice but to leave a big tip considering gratuity is included in the check.

Didn’t honor the Unilocal coupon. There were a lot of college kids as expected. Music was just as diverse as the crowd. Service was good and atmosphere was what we were looking for on a girls night.

Once upon a time I loved this place until they hired new servers and when I noticed the more people in your group the more ignorant the servers become, and I don’t appreciate horrible service and the gratuity they have already applied to each bill . I used to go to this place often with a total of 3 people including myself and had a great time as long as we went before 9pm to get the deals. But I once went with a total of 10 people and you think the server would be great so she can get an amazing tip, NOPE horrible. Beyond horrible ! Ignorant and horrible ! This place serves people alcohol even when people are so drunk, I witnessed it to so many people there they will be excessively drunk falling over in front of everyone and still given more drinks, WHAT? Not to mention I witnessed numerous times people not getting carded and being well under age, not sure what’s going on here but I haven’t been back since my last rude incident that happened here . Rude servers, excessively drunk people, minors and mediocre food . Just pay the few extra bucks and go to Thayer Street it’s the same idea but safer and less childish.

If you’re out in the middle of the sketchy part of Prov and you’re with a group of friends and you wanna get drunk and smoke a little hookah, by all means try it. If you’re like me –an experienced hookah smoker and know a good deal about hookah lounges– this place is a train wreck. I gave it two stars because it’s good for groups and that’s about it. First walking in: The bar is right at the entrance, which is bad placement because there are too many people standing around which makes it hard to get in to. The bar is cheesy and gnarly looking, and their bar selection seems to be nothing but fruity spirits and vodkas, and the beers were not on tap, so if you’re looking for a good drink please find somewhere else. I chose to sit in the back, to get a view of the place. The atmosphere was really nice, I mean there were a lot of groups there, dim lighting, comfortable chairs, whatever. I suppose it was okay, I mean it was a lot more chill than the other places around the state. The waitress comes over and gives me a menu. The menu is pretty straight forward but the food was all over the place on it which could confuse people. But one thing that they have that really didn’t sell me to returning: [45 minutes/2−3 people per hookah.] That’s pretty much getting people in and out, which isn’t what smoking hookah is about, traditionally. Anyway, I move on to the flavor selection, which overall isn’t bad. Prices are as follows: Single Flavor — $ 19(average) Double Flavor — $ 21(ehh, average) «Staff Selections»(mixes of flavors with names) — $ 23 — 25(expensive) So I pick blueberry and a cup of water. Might as well get something small since I apparently wasn’t staying long. Ten minutes later, I get my hookah without coals. The woman comes out and puts it down, walks away. I decided to get an overall look at it. The hookah was small for a lounge(about 20″ — you can tell they were some restaurant-bulk hookahs, probably Mya Saray Econo models, not traditional hand-made hookahs which most good places use) and they use a really small head which holds about 5−10g of tobacco, so you know this place is really trying to save money and cut corners by giving you a small head so the flavor burns out within 30 minutes if 2 – 3 people are smoking it. That’s not good. Five minutes go by, she comes out with some coals. Friggin’ finally. So I start smoking. They didn’t put enough water in the base so I was having a hard time starting it and the smoke wasn’t pulling as well as it should. Not a good, quality — made hookah. Anyway, after twenty minutes, my back was killing me(the chairs are a cushion on a wicker platform, not much back support) so I move to the bar. The bar was riddled with old hookahs, mouthpieces, ect., so they were a little slow on cleaning up. I finished my water and moved it up to the edge of the bar so the bartender would get the hint that I’d like more water. Instead, she takes it and gets rid of it. So I told her«Uhm, that was my water…» and she apologized and gave me another one. Party foul, but that’s alright. Remember when I said that there were a lot of people standing around at the bar? Yes, so it was cramped where I was sitting and a lot of drunken 2009-esque Jersey Shore kids were loud and having arguements about glitter being on some guys face and there were screaming matches followed by «I love you, baby“s and quick make-up snogging(remember that episode of South Park where the country was being taken over by Jersey? that’s all I thought about). So maybe I should have stayed in the back. I noticed a coal got knocked off my head during transit to the bar so I flagged over a waitress for tongs. She had no idea what I was asking about. Another party foul. 20 minutes later the waitress comes back with a check although I didn’t ask for it. This could be either a mistake on her part of the company policy of «you’re only getting one hookah, no more» so I felt unwelcome a little. That’s okay, I really didn’t want to stay anyway. I open up the check. It came to about $ 25. $ 25 for one single flavor hookah? If you go anywhere else and order a $ 19 hookah, the total comes around to $ 21 – 22. I looked deeper into the check. [There’s an automatic 20% TIP added to the bill. 20 friggin percent?!] And there was a tip line above place where you write your paid amount. Uhm, no. So I paid my tab and left. Overall benefits: — Great for groups — Great for a quick drink — Great if you don’t care about quality hookah or don’t care about the experience — Great if you don’t care about staying long Detriments: — Clueless staff — Not good if you go alone and if you’re looking to socialize(it’s cliquey) — Hookah is awful — 45 minute smoke time — Expensive(note the 20% added tip) — Bar is small and expensive — Not the best crowd — Parking is confusing — Sketchy part of Providence — You’ll get rushed out if you don’t look like you belong there. Honestly, I’d just stay on College Hill.

Just weird. Service, atmosphere, prices and food were all weird. Went here with some girlfriends for a study breaks and we ended up dropping over $ 100. Two hookahs, two appetizers and five drinks. Gratuity was included for some reason. Weird. Especially since out serverS never came over. HM.

I have never had a poorer dining experience. And guess what? The food is a 2 star, edible. The problem is the wait. My party of 7– the only ones in the restaurant– waited over an hour and a half for falafel and pizza. Pathetic service.

I am usually at Sheesha in Allston, which I find to be the best spot so far, but since Jamra is right down the street from me, I figured I’d give it a whirl. My first experience was okay. Our server, Liz, was very accommodating and friendly. Our hookah was alright, though too many coals were placed and quickly began burning through. Liz was intrigued and interested in learning the rights and wrongs which I highly enjoyed, though I feel the owner should be doing this — not customers. My boyfriend and I went again last night, and the service was not up to par with Liz. I can’t even tell you who we had, because she never told us her name. It took around ten minutes after her seating us, for her to even take our drink orders — she seemed to be too wrapped up in hanging out at the bar. The hookah was a little better, though I had to go ask for tongs — again — because too many coals were placed and burning through — again. We also noticed last night, that they automatically add 10% gratuity to your bill, yet they add a tip line to the slip you sign. Pretty tricky, and they got us the first time. The pricing is pretty reasonable, and it’s really the only reason I MAY go back. But like others have said, it will be before 9pm. My biggest issue is the seating. There is zero back support. When spending a short period of time there, it’s fine, but my boyfriend and I usually spend around two hours at hookah lounges and this is where it becomes a problem. The music is also pretty annoying. I personally think hookah lounges are supposed to be on the relaxing side — and not like a club.

A quick disclaimer — prior to 930pm, this place is relaxed. Post? Dunno — I leave when the college kids flood in. As far as hookah bars go — it’s common knowledge that the price to enjoy in public is equivalent to the cost of permanent enjoyment in your home. That being said, Jamra is the most reasonably priced hookah I’ve seen at a not-too-heartbreaking $ 19(but $ 9 before 9pm… no clue about what, if any, days this pertains to). I appreciate their ambience; hanging Morocco-inspired lanterns casting pretty little shadowy galaxies on the wall, neat-o beanbag(not the nineties style) seats to chill in while you eat, drink, and pass the tube. Unfortunately, I should be honest — these seats are incredibly uncomfortable. I try so hard, so often, to relax into them while still maintaining eye contact with my fellow friends. I try so hard. I fail so easily. The food — pretty good, but kinda slow on the delivery. Kinda really slow. I do recommend the mini taco pita pizza! More importantly — drink! Good mix of offerings and good prices. Again, there was definitely a ‘before 9pm’ deal going on that I have since forgotten. But fear not, I do remember that you can upgrade a lot of drinks to a larger size for just a dollar. Go ahead, be an adult. Drink up.

I have to agree with another reviewer(Jean R) on almost all points-ambiance, food, and music. Don’t be fooled by the outside, the décor and vibe inside is inviting and beautiful. I’ve been a few times so far and the staff is all young but very friendly and having a good time while they work. The hookas are inexpensive and you get your own plastic tip which I love. The food. The big reason we keep going back. YUM. The felafel is great but I could eat a whole plate and my boyfriend always insists on sharing! But, we’ve tried a few of the pizzas and you’ve gotta try the one with the french fries on it. Sounds weird, but it totally works. Drinks are average priced and they keep some funky flavored vodkas in stock so ask for a shot, any shot and let the bartender get creative. I hear they’re getting a tap system which will be nice too. I haven’t been on the weekends yet so I have no idea how crazy it gets in there, but I can see it being a great ladies night chill spot. I should plan that soon.
