Ky Michaels Salon

I made an appointment with Jena for the first time few months ago. I have had long hair for a long time and wanted a change! Jena was great she shaped my hair but still kept it long! I was so happy with the cut I went back again. but unfortunately for my third cut I found out she left! I had an emergency the day before the third appointment and I called to see if I could move the appointment back and they told me she left the salon! I was really upset no one called to let me know and try to reschedule my appointment. I wont be going back to this salon.

When I first moved to Providence, I was browsing Unilocal to find a new hair stylist. I tried a couple of places before finding Ky Michaels — now, this is the only salon where I’ll get my hair cut. Talented and friendly staff. Trendy shop. Prices are a bit on the high side, but worth the quality that you get.

I has heard good things about this Salon. It is located in the Fox Point section of Providence. It is in a area that I am very familiar with as I grew up in a house near by. I stopped in a few weeks ago. The salon was clean and comfortable. I asked the very friendly young gentemen who was at the reception desk who he would recommended. He said to try Emily who had just cut his hair. I made an appointment. It took me a week to get in, My hair was quite long because I had not gotten a hair cut in a long while. Emily was very friendly and professional. I told her I did not want a a short haircut. She shaped my hair and made it healthier by cutting off the damaged ends. Emily was very efficient.

I went to have my hair cut twice at Ky Michaels. Both times, Jessica cut my hair. She did a good job, my hair looked fine I guess, but after some thought I don’t think I’ll be going back. Here’s why:
These cuts are expensive. Just a women’s cut, no color or anything, starts at $ 50, and depends on who cuts your hair. After tip you could easily pay $ 60-​$ 80. (Again, depending on who is cutting your hair, and what «level» they are. This information doesn’t appear to be easily accessible online, by the way, so maybe you could be paying more than $ 80.) You are definitely paying for a salon experience. To me, that means feeling pampered and relaxed, in addition to getting a nice haircut.
My haircut was fine I guess — though I’ve definitely had better. The first time she did my hair, we chatted about moving to Rhode Island after being out west for a year. She made a few comments about how westerners «love too many layers in their cuts.» She seemed perplexed by how my hair had been cut in the past. Okay fine, but I didn’t think it needed to be that big of a deal. By the end of it I basically felt embarrassed by my hair, and I don’t think that’s great service. What’s more, I didn’t walk out of the salon feeling my hair looked any better than it did before! She did say it would take two cuts to get rid of the «oddly placed» layers, so I thought I’d give it another try.
Eight weeks later I returned for another cut. This time, Jessica seemed visibly upset. I was her first appointment, so I thought maybe she was just having a rough morning. However, throughout the cut she barely talked to me. What’s more, she seemed extremely frustrated by my hair. She kept pulling back hair to check on length, then she would look really frustrated and start cutting more, and checking, and cutting more, and checking. It was really unsettling. I get that sometimes people have bad days. Again, by the end it looked fine, but I wasn’t blown away. Plus, who wants to pay a lot to feel stressed and embarrassed by their hair? Not me.
I thought about giving it one more try, but was avoiding another appointment. Over the holidays we were in Key West, FL, and I walked into a random place and had my hair cut. It was reasonably priced (more like $ 30 with tip), it was very pleasant and relaxing, and my hair looked fantastic! I can’t go back regularly to Key West to get my hair done, but I am definitely going to find a new place in Providence.

Jessica is the only person I trust with my hair in Rhode Island! For girls with asian hair, she knows what she’s doing! She’s taken me from dark hair to summer bayalage blonde back to dark hair with subtle highlights & several trims in between for the past few years.

Danielle cut my hair and then blew it straight on Saturday. Sunday morning I took a very sweaty hot yoga class with it in a pony tail and it was still straight after class! Darn fine blowout!

I used to enjoy coming to Ky Michaels (it’s a decent salon) but with their price increase– a 45 minute haircut is now $ 60… that means with tip I’m paying over $ 100 an hour to a salon without getting it died or anything? No, thank you. I’ve never been blown away by any of my haircuts so I’ll just go somewhere else now.

Had an awesome experience getting a balayage from Danielle at KY. She added lovely brown tones to my dark hair and gave it much-​needed dimension. It was pretty expensive but well-​worth it, considering the color will last and was applied in a feathery way to keep it low maintenance and natural-​looking. I also appreciate the owner KY for going out of his way and making time to see me for a touch-​up on my bangs, which needed some color after the balayage. They listened to my hair needs (we’re all so particular about our hair, right?!) and I left feeling heard and prettier than when I walked in :) Highly recommend this place for quality cut and color.

Ky Michaels is truly an immaculate salon. My hair is the farthest thing from manageable, but Matt always knows exactly how to fix that problem, and for that I am forever in their debt!

I go to Emily for a beard trim and straight razor shave. She is amazing, the salon is clean, friendly and a great find in you are in Providence.

My stylist Matt is the best. The.Best. I get so many compliments on my cut when he’s done with me! I have slightly curly hair and he always cuts it so I can air dry and look fabulous with my wash and go hair care routine. The salon is always spotless and I love that they don’t ever seem to run late. I’ve only been styled by Matt so I can’t speak to the other stylists but they seem to always be booked solid! I book my appointments in advance cause the prime time slots are always taken! The price can not be beat either for such a great cut. Leaves more money in my budget for drinks at Duck and Bunny after my cut!

Have been coming here a few months now and I am happy to report that Ky never disappoints! Great cuts and highlights for this natural brunette! Awesome product line as well. You will not be sorry with any of the stylists here, but Ky is the best! I am always wow’d by all of the other guests leaving the salon.

I love this place! Everyone there is so sweet, and from what I could tell, they’re all extremely talented. I had Danielle ! She was fabulous. She bleached my hair and we put in some purple and pink color. It looks so pretty.
I am going in for another appointment to add some more color, after looking back at the picture of what I showed her, it wasn’t what I wanted. They were super kind when I called back asking for another appointment to see what they could to mirror the picture. I will update when that’s done !
So, I went back to get my hair redone. I had to pay another $ 300 (+55 for tip –I chose to give her this much, and was not pressured, JS). Totally the right color and style this time… I’m a little sad that I could’ve saved 400 dollars though if it were like the picture the first time. I wish I was told.
Ok. So I called Ky. And he is amazing. Super sweet and kind. He called me back to talk about what was done and I will say that he’s taking care of me and I’m totally happy with everything. I’m so impressed by the customer service.
Love the salon and everyone there ! :) I will be going back and making this my permanent go-​to place for my hair.

Ky Micheals Salon, is by far one of the best salons in the state. They are professional and their color and cuts are a step above the five stars that I am allowed to give. They not only care about what you want to look like, they match your hair style to your profession. As a medical professional, I want to look professional and sassy. This is something that Ky accomplishes. The salon is clean, well maintained and the products that they use are always high end. I also must also review the man at the counter. He is so friendly and sweet. If you are looking for a progressive and professional salon an awesome cut/​color, look no further as this is the salon for you.

I’ve gotten my hair cut at Ky Michaels Salon three times already, so I figured that it was about time I wrote a review!
Emily is my girl — I always ask for her and I’ve never had a bad experience. I’ve got short hair, and I believe that’s her forte, though I’ve got no doubt that she’s amazing with any hair length. After my first haircut, I knew she was THE ONE (hairstylist) for me, and since then, I’ve just let her take the reins with my hair. I’ve gotten to the point where I just tell her to have fun with it and give her pretty much no guidelines (other than the fact that I like my hair short), and I always leave feeling awesome. She’s creative and fun, and you can tell she not only has great technical skill, but that she loves what she does, and that’s what makes such a huge difference. I could go on forever about how great she is, but the best would be for you to book an appointment with her and see how wonderful she is for yourself :)
As for everything else, I really like the salon. All of the staff are really friendly, I like the music, everything is clean, and the waiting area is comfortable. Every member on Ky’s team treats you well and I have no complaints at all. The space is cozy and unintimidating, and it’s just a great place to be. Definitely give it a shot if you haven’t yet — it’ll be worth it. :)

First off I want to say how much I enjoyed coming to this salon and having Jena as my hairstylist. She always knew what to do with my hair and find the right fit for me.
I had an appointment today at the salon.
I got a call in the morning telling me my stylist no longer is working with the company. I attempted to ask where she is relocated but I was then pressured to make a new appointment with a different stylist. When I hesitated to answer, the lady on the phone said we can make the appointment over the phone.
I said no thank you I will figure it out.
She then responded with no sympathy, «sorry for the inconvenience.»
Will not be returning to the salon.

Emily P. is my saving grace! After undergoing chemotherapy, I had lost all of my hair. Once it started to grow back it was a big puffball that needed some love. When I first walked in I was greeted by Ky and explained my situation. He quickly recommended Emily, who specializes in short hair. Ever since my first appointment with her I knew that she was the perfect fit. Slowly but surely as my hair has grown she has shaped and styled my hair in a way that made me feel beautiful again.
Aside from Emily’s incredible skill and professionalism she is a warm, lighthearted, person. I always look forward to seeing and chatting with her. I can absolutely say the same for the rest of the staff as well.
I do not forsee myself going to another salon, EVER.

Morgan took my hair from a dead disaster and made me feel alive again! I’ve gotten so many compliments on my new look, from the minute I walked out the front door and grabbed a coffee at Dave’s.
The vibe in the salon is amazing and you can tell all the stylists have a good rapport and genuinely like each other!
My consultation was extremely professional and I felt really confident in Morgan’s ability to deliver exactly what I asked for.
Everyone is friendly and helpful and Morgan provides a level of service I’ve yet to receive anywhere else in Providence while getting my hair done!
(Plus, anywhere that has a bottle of baileys next to the coffee pot is a place I’ll go, they have the PERFECT amount of character and sass) thanks Morgan!

I gave this place a shot based on all of the glowing reviews and I was not disappointed!
When I called they only had one slot open that day for a haircut and I jumped at the opportunity. I arrived 10 minutes before my appointment and there was noone at the desk so I had a seat. A few stylist filtered in and out of the desk but I was never greeted. Once it was a few minuted past my appointed time I stepped up to the desk and gave the gentleman my name. Not the greatest first impression, but definitely the only bump in the experience
I was scheduled with Jena and was blown away by her consultation. I explained that I wanted long-​ish hair on the top and shaved on the sides, but that she was also free to give me some suggestions on a cut. She then gave me some celebrity names to conjure up an image in my head. She was also really awesome and parted out the hair and actually explained the haircut to me.
Jena also explained each of the hair-​care products she was using and recommended that I get the mousse. Super awesome product for those of us with fine hair, I love love love it! She also gave me some tips on how to style it at home.
It’s been a few weeks since the haircut and I can honestly say that I am able to recreate something gorgeous at home.
Whoever runs their website should really put Jenas picture up on her bio. Because she doesn’t have one up it gives the impression that she is a junior stylist, but the woman is definitely confident and talented with a pair of scissors! Highly recommend her!

I called around 1:45 to ask if they took walk-​ins, the secretary set me up with an appointment for 2:30 with Morgan. I walked in and was pleasantly surprised with the place and it’s atmosphere. Morgan was behind the desk with the secretary. Even though I arrived 10 minutes early, she took me right away.
I haven’t gone to the salon in a little over 2 years so this appointment was long overdue. I had a good idea of what I wanted but definitely needed a bit of encouragement when it came to shaving the side off, I had let it grow out for 3 years so I know hard it is to grow back. Morgan was really helpful and easy to talk to. I ended up going through with it and she managed to keep my hair at the length that I wanted while taking out most of the damage.
After the blowout she added some curl and finished the side off with the 3 line design I was looking for. This is the best hair cut I’ve ever received. Parting my hair normally allows me to completely cover the side seamlessly. Living down the street is a plus but I’m definitely driving back down here during school. I couldn’t have asked for a better experience and a better haircut. Thank you Morgan!
