We have been to Mill’s Tavern many times and have always had an excellent meal. This past Saturday, however, was very disappointing. My pork chop special came out lukewarm and not fully cooked. What they brought back was much, much better. Another guest at the table was OK with her pork chop, but not thrilled(she didn’t send it back). The other two at the table left their meals half finished(their fault for not saying anything to the waiter). Nothing asked or said as we left. I’ll chalk it up to an off night, but at those prices I’m not sure when we’ll be back.

If you’re looking for a local spot for fine dining, this is the place. We started with the cheese plate appetizer that included feta, goat, bleu and cheddar cheeses. Each cheese came with a side garnish that perfectly complimented them. Next, I had the Caesar salad with anchovies(the anchovies are optional) and my fiancé had the baby green salad. Both equally delicious and fresh. Main course: I had the duck which was phenomenal and she had the grilled swordfish which is cooked on their wood fire grill. We shared the macaroni and cheese, fingerling sweet potatoes and carrots and asparagus. One side to share would have been plenty. The sides were much larger than we expected, but we had lots to share the next day. Dessert: I had the«Affogado» which is an incredible vanilla/caramel ice cream(all of their ice creams and sorbets are made by their in-house pastry chef) topped with a churro that was cooked to perfection. My fiancé had the lemon merengue pie with blueberry sorbet(see attached pictures) All in all, we had no complaints except for slow service at times, but I’m sure they wanted to get us to drink more. Mills tavern is definitely a «sometimes treat», but you will not be disappointed. Perks: valet parking, knowledgeable staff, extensive wine list

Went back the the Mill’s Tavern, great experience could not have asked for more. Moving my rating from four to five stars. I tend to rate the more expensive restaurants more critically than less expensive places but after eating here again, no question they deserve five stars.

I have been here twice, once for a friends birthday dinner, and most recently we hosted our wedding night dinner in one of Mills Tavern’s private rooms. It was approx. 17 people, and included children as young as 3 years old. I worked with the manager Alex, who could not have been more accommodating of us. The menu was perfection, an amazing balance of seafood and seasonal foods, which was perfect for our family visiting from other states. He even worked on pairing wines to our meal choices and champagne options. The valet service makes getting to the restaurant painless. My family cannot stop raving about the food, specifically the Filet and the mill’s mac and cheese. From the appetizers, to the wait staff, to the cake prepared by the restaurant’s pastry chef, I cannot recommend this place enough, whether its just a night out or a more formal celebration.

Came to Mills today(4÷14÷16 maybe 30 mins ago) expecting the usual decent service that I have come to know during my raw bar happy hour visits at the bar. What I got was anything but. First, the main guy behind the bar was not the guy I have seen during the last 3 visits(older guy). Today’s guy was younger(shaved head). From the minute I sat down I could tell he was not going to be super attentive. He was dismissive from the start, and gave me the impression that my requests(menu, a drink, food) were too much of a bother. Some context… I am female who happens to be brown, there was a patron next to me, female who was white. Immediately I noticed that he was way more attentive to her than he was to me. Now I ‘ll give this guy the benefit of the doubt. As I sat there I was listening to their conversation(yes you may call it eavesdropping, I call it I’m a psychologist and I am trained to listen) they were friends it seems, or at the very least«friendly», but his attentiveness was far greater, but may have been due to this fact. For the 1.5 hours I was there I had to say«excuse me» a number of times to get his attention. He only checked on me once or twice through out my time there, compared to the more than maybe 5 times he checked in on the other person. The bar was empty btw, so there goes THAT argument. During my observation, I also noticed him and other severs talking about another patron, who coincidence would have you was also a brown female(btw brown as in skin color, not Brown as in Brown U). She had the audacity to ask for a specific preparation for her drink… I mean how dare she! :sarcasm: I gave the guy a nice tip because I am that person, but I did leave a friendly note saying that talking about a customer in front of another-super observant-customer is a no no. That in combination with this review will hopefully help him realize that his customer service skills need some polishing. Mill’s Tavern should take note as I left that establishment to finish my meal at a competing one(Garde), as a direct result of this bartender’s service.

Went to Mills with my family. The food was good but there service was rather disappointing. My family sat our table for over 20 minutes before a waiter(not ours) came over to speak with us about specials and take our drink orders. Another 10 mins later our waitress finally came to our table with our drinks(missing one btw) she did not introduce herself, did not apologize for making us wait(she knew we were waiting, we had complained to the hostess) and rarely paid attention to us throughout the meal, nothing on our billed was comped even though our waitress ignored us for the better part of half an hour. The food was good but for the price you pay, you would think they would try a little harder to provide service that lives up to the food.

VERY enjoyable experience. From the fast valet parking to the wonderful menu(my lamb was delicious and my wife’s pork chop was super tender), it was just what we needed a week after the birth of our first baby. It’s not cheap but it was worth it.

My fiancé and I went to Mill’s Tavern in March 2016 to celebrate a career milestone. We made a reservation through Open Table the week before. Upon arriving the valet parked our car and we were shown to our table near the bar. I am so sorry that I don’t remember our waiter’s name, but he was exceptional. He was extremely attentive and gave excellent recommendations on the menu. We started with cocktails from their new cocktail menu. Mine was delicious, and was island-themed. His had tobacco and was crazy strong, but he liked it. Then we ordered the cheese plate, which proved to be extremely filling. Next my fiancé ordered a wagyu steak with the side of roasted vegetables. He absolutely loved the steak. He liked the vegetables, but I didn’t: they were soaked in butter and oil. It was just too much fat. I got the house salad which came with a cream sauce on it. I really didn’t like it; it was similar to a blue cheese. The greens were fresh, which was redeeming. There were no vegetarian entrees on the menu, and some of the sides that had one meat ingredient could not be prepared vegetarian. I ordered the gnocchi without the meat. The gnocchi were served soggy in a bed of oil. The vegetables were mostly onions. The gnocchi were filled with cheese; it was just overkill on the fat. I brought the leftovers home and threw them away. By the time we hit our main course, the bar area filled up and it was so loud that we couldn’t hear each other. What started as a romantic dinner became a shouting match as we couldn’t hear each other over the deafening bar crowd. When we left, the valet handed me the keys and had me get my car myself. The car was wedged between two others on the street. The guy was friendly, but it was an annoying end to the evening as I had to wedge myself out. My fiancé would probably give his meal a 5⁄5. Indeed, if you eat steak, I’d highly recommend you head over to Mills Tavern soon; request a table further from the bar. You’ll enjoy the beautiful atmosphere and exceptional service. I’d give my food a 3/5, where my cocktail and the cheese plate are a 5⁄5 but my entrée, salad, and our shared side of vegetables are a 2⁄5. If you have a vegetarian in your party, go somewhere else.

Thank you Mill Tavern for another fabulous night. Started the night with wonderful drinks, and extremely fresh raw bar. Their specialty cocktails are really amazing, but they even do regular drinks with an exceptional flair. If you’re not sure what you’re looking for, describe what you’re thinking about, and they’ll bring you a taste of something that likely fits the bill. The Niman Ranch ribeye was perfection. Perfectly cooked, large portion, just the right balance of meat and fat. Herbed gnocchi with beef shank was insanely delicious. Don’t expect to see a big hunk of meat, it’s more of a flavoring in the sauce. The gnocchi were frankly the best I’ve ever had anywhere. Very tender, intense sage tones. Beautiful ricotta inside. Not doughy or chewy like most places. Root vegetables in brown butter as a side were simple but lovely. We took some of everything home, and it all made great leftovers. And the service as usual was just fantastic. Classy, white table service, but not snooty. That really helps to make the occasion feel special, but relaxed, not an easy feat. I’ve never done it, but the bar always looks very comfortable, and I think it would be a good place to come and have a drink, some oysters, some hors d’oeuvres, maybe a little dessert, and then head on your way.

Went there for dinner and the food was OK. We were told about the great quality of their steaks and I thought the Sirloin was good, but nothing to write home about. We ordered it medium and it came nicely cooked but not as juicy nor as flavorful as I expected. We also got the Cobb Salad and it was good, but nothing spectacular. I’ve had better. The chianti classico that we got was a great wine, they do have a good wine list… many choices. Overall a good dining experience, but not outstanding.

Normally, Mill’s Tavern would be either a place my BF and I would either not eat at due to high prices or save for a super special occasion due to the high prices. However, Providence’s restaurant week’s special offering drew us in. This place is classy, the décor subtle. If someone can dine here regularly, they might have money to burn. That being said, the place is by no means pretentious. Nice lighting, an extensive and tasteful wine list, and thoughtful menu. Depending on where a customer is seated, there is a fine view of food coming out of the kitchen, which is cool. We both had the $ 30, 3-course Rest Week menu which included Apps, Entrees and dessert. All were lovely. We both really enjoyed the ciopoino, a seafood stew which apparently originates from San Francisco Italian-Americans. The better dessert was a sorbet tasting, which consisted of seasonal fruit flavors. I am not a dessert person and loved the full flavor. Service was polite, careful and professional.

We had what I thought was the best table in the house for a beautiful New Year’s Eve dinner with friends. Our server was one of the best I’ve ever had. He was extremely personable, knowledgable and attentive. The food was unreal good and the wine list was fantastic. You must try the tomahawk rib eye.

Mills Tavern is where my wife and I like to celebrate our anniversary, we consider it a treat to be savored on special occasions. A upscale steakhouse, it reminds me of the Oak Room at the Grand Hyatt in Tokyo, minus the Kobe beef and Japanese prices. In four trips we have always found top notch service, down to them setting aside our favorite table. We have generally loved all of our entrees and sides — this most recent visit I tried the salmon at the recommendation of our waiter and was very happy — high quality fish cooked perfectly and with tasty but high-end sides. The wine list is extensive. It can be loud inside but we like that. Overall it’s not cheap but as they say, you get what you pay for. In an evolving Providence dining scene Mill’s Tavern is a reliable favorite.

Mill’s Tavern is definitely one of the best restaurants in Providence. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, the food and wine are delicious, and the ambiance is warm and classy. When we had to push back our reservation by 10 minutes, the staff was very kind. Because we were delayed we ended up being the last table to finish, but they did not rush us through our meal at all, and even encouraged us to order dessert. The food was very good. My scallops were cooked perfectly and went very well with the farro and chorizo cream sauce. My bf loved his rack of lamb, citing it one of the best meals he has eaten(I had a bite and agree it was excellent). The bottle of wine we ordered went well with everything(I don’t think you are supposed to drink red wine with scallops, but it worked!). To top off a wonderful meal, we got the maple crème brûlée — one of the best crème brûlées I’ve ever had! Our dining experience at Mill’s Tavern was phenomenal, and we will most certainly be back.

Amazing experience here! Came with a group of six for a work-related dinner, and the atmosphere was perfect. We arrived around 7:45pm, so it wasn’t too crowded, and were seated right away. Our waitress(I think her name was Kyle?) was excellent. She recommended two great bottles of wine, and was extremely attentive to our group– especially my friend who had given her a list of her allergies. She also explained that their menu changed seasonally and that they tried to only serve the best and freshest food. We shared a few dishes to start off, the risotto was the most notable– YUM! For a main course, I had the lamb and it was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The goat cheese mashed potatoes were a little too cheesy for my taste, but that’s only because I’m lactose intolerant and thought it was worth the risk ;) We wrapped up with dessert, which was equally as appetizing. Really– I wish I could’ve tasted some of that Maple Crème Brulee! Mill’s Tavern was a great experience, and worth visiting for anyone that’s «just visiting»! We were working at the convention center and staying at the Omni, and this restaurant is super close and worth the $ 7 Über over there!

If there was a ten star i would give it. I’m A big foodie and love a nice restaurant. Every year I get to choose where To go for my special Birthday dinner. It’s always mills tavern. They valet and take reservations so there’s never any trouble getting in. They have an extensive wine list ranging from a few dollars to a hundred dollars. They have some pre chosen wine flights also. This is what I always get. They are generous pours and always tasty. This is not just a restaurant it’s an experience. You will be here at least ninety minutes or more if your going to take full advantage of these delicious courses. They bring over a basket of warm fresh bread and whipped butter. I have to stop myself from eating it all. I had a filet with a chive buere and Gorgonzola sauce. Cooked to perfection with a mélange of flavors. Divine. Also a superstar is the mills Mac and cheese. Not sure what’s in it but i taste truffle Oil Panko and love. For dessert I had some sort of an ice cream parfait. It had all different layers and flavors. It was amazing. I’ve never had a Bad meal here. Service is always spot on. Water is refilled at each sip. Everyone who walks by says hello. Our waiter was great and kept checking in on us. I’m surprised by some of the negative reviews and I think many are fueled by the high prices. For the Price conscious they do offer a pre fixe menu. However if your looking for a cheap meal you probably should not Come here. It’s a fine dining experience with amazing food and that comes at a price. It’s worth every penny. If your looking for a special Occasion dinner or to Really impress a date this is the place.

The service is excellent and no attitude. I enjoyed the ambiance, it was a nice blend of old and new. The server was attentive, made some excellent recommendations based on my preferences. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered the evening special of wagyu sirloin; it was perfectly done to medium rare, as I had ordered. The menu is a la carte, so I ordered asparagus as the side. The asparagus was tender but not over cooked, with fresh shaved Pecorino. Dessert was Affogatto, which is a riff on the Italian coffee. It had the gelato but this was not a drink. The details escape me, I got lost in the deliciousness. Flavors of espresso, chocolate, cinnamon… It was light and decadent at the same time. Definitely happy I tried it. I highly recommend Mill’s Tavern. It is a little pricey but worth the splurge.

I’m very sad to say that after being a loyal customer of Mill’s for some time I had a terrible experience here during the most recent restaurant week. Now, of course I understand that restaurant week can be a hectic time for ANY restaurant, however the lack of service my sister and I were shown at Mill’s was inexcusable. We began with oysters and cocktails at the bar only to be met with a bartender who seriously neglected to provide us with any kind of service. Despite that, our meal started off well with some fantastic appetizers. I have always come to Mill’s not only for the impeccable service but also for the great food! Things turned noticeably south when I had to get up and go to the bar for some club soda when I got a slight stain on my blouse because our server was busy socializing with other staff. My sister and I ordered the same entrée for our three-course meal — a seafood dish. After my sister took a bite first(still tending to my blouse) and made eyes at me, we quickly realized that we had been served spoiled fish. The manager came over to address the issue but we were quite honestly no longer hungry after that. She offered to take care of the check and we got up to go after leaving a tip for our server on the table, only to be stopped by our server on our way out the door to pay for the two glasses of wine we had… How mortifying to sign a check at the hostess stand! I seriously will have to reconsider before returning to Mill’s at any point soon.

I really enjoyed Mills Tavern. They have a great atmosphere going on with the dark wood and the swanky feel. I also loved the open kitchen and looking at the wood grill! The food was excellent. We did the Prix Fixe which is the BOMB. We got an app, entrée, and dessert for $ 30. Say what? Yes I am serious. I got the calamari which was good and the olé bay sauce was interesting in a good way. My sister got the risotto and what a treat that was! For the mains she got the seafood dish and when I say dish I mean huge bowl of all kinds of delicious seafood! I was very happy with my duck breast however the salad it came with was sort of blah. Dessert were the chocolate dessert and the orange blossom mousse. Both were great! This place impressed me. It would be a great place to bring out of town guests!

«Tavern» is a bit of a misnomer; this place is one of the more upscale restaurants in the area! They offer the typical ‘fancy restaurant’ fare: duck, pork loin, shellfish, sirloin, and a few creative-looking pasta dishes. My duck($ 28) was perfectly cooked, and the patty of rillettes that came with it also had a beautiful crust. I only wish the dish had some more vegetables on it besides a few sprouts and a little pile of slaw to break up the rich, salty meat; by the end, I was practically lapping up the prickly pear gastrique to get something vegetal. Basically, the protein was magnificent, but I think the dish could have been a little more balanced and thoughtful. I felt the same way about the desserts($ 9). The crème brûlée was excellent and had a thick, crackly crust – a mark of a good pastry chef. But the garnish of two rock-hard gingerbread cookies was awkward to look at and to eat. Similarly, the warm chocolate cake was exactly as decadent as you would expect, but the crème anglaise and chocolate cookie crumbles on the rest of the plate were sort of an afterthought. I’m being picky because I think that with a little extra effort, Mill’s Tavern could put out some truly surprising, technically great dishes to match its flawless service and décor. The prix fixe is a great value: $ 30 for an appetizer, entrée, and dessert. You can choose from three options for each, and, unlike some restaurants, they don’t obviously limit you to the cheapest and least appealing dishes. However, watch out: no prix fixe on Saturdays!
