Absolutely fantastic food. The wait is a little longer than I would like for a food truck but the quality is worth the wait.

I had been wanting to try this food truck for some time and on a whim took a drive with my girlfriend to try them for lunch. I had the PortuGalo bifana and my girlfriend had the piri piri chicken sandwich while splitting an order of the batatas brava(think Portuguese fries with ketchup and aglio olio. The bifana was quite tasty. The pork was well cooked and seasoned perfectly. The chicken sandwich had a generous portion of chicken breast and was also cooked nicely. It was juicy and despite the piri piri I wouldn’t consider it to be spicy. Most should enjoy the flavor without worry of burning their mouths. The folks taking the order and cooking were friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy what they were doing. Also, the food won’t break the bank, the two sandwiches and fries came out to $ 16. The only thing that kept me from giving it 5 stars was that I felt the bifana was a little thin on meat. With a tad more meat, I’d say 5 stars all day long. Definitely worth a try though, your taste buds will dance. Use Facebook or Twitter to find where they’ll be.

Saw they were going to be close by for an event on Sat and we decided to go check it out. My bf is Portuguese so I figured it’d be a nice treat to get some Portuguese food on a lovely Sat afternoon. And boy we were not disappointed! We ordered the piri piri chicken sandwich, portugalo bifana sandwich and the bravas fries to share. The piri piri is prob one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had — moist and so flavorful with just the right bread to meat ratio and greens/onions to top it off. My bf had the bifana — IMO, i think they could’ve packed a little more meat in there but it was tasty — he enjoyed it very much. The fries were delicious but a bit too saucy for my liking. I don’t think they would be good to eat 30 mins after ordering, needs to be eaten right away so it doesn’t get soggy. We were both satisfied and have def become fans and will make a stop at this food truck again. Sorry no pics, I was way too hungry to hold out my phone and take a snapshot of my lunch. Maybe next time, Unilocalers! Nom nom nom.

I admit one of my guilty pleasures is the whole food truck scene, though I do not get to go often. Noontime at Kennedy Plaza in Downtown Providence can be a real treat, with lots of variety. My new favorites is Portu Galo, the Portuguese food truck. I’ve only sampled the Portuguese Hot Dog, but it was amazing! The official name is Cachorro Quente(Portuguese style Hot Dog), Premium all beef frank topped with mustard, mayo, spicy ketchup and crispy potato sticks. It is VERY tasty and the shoestring potatoes on the top are a nice, clever, crunchy touch! It was bargain at $ 3.99.

This is not your average food truck. Let me just start by saying the owner is a wicked nice guy & puts his heart & soul into his food. And any place that travels & you actually follow so you can get their food is worth trying! The truck features mainly Portuguese sandwiches. There really is something for everyone, whether you’re craving meat or seafood. They even have hotdogs & an egg dish as well. The sauces are homemade & so flavorful and the ingredients are fresh. You can have them cater events as well. I did that last year for my son’s high school graduation. Let’s just say, I had people in the neighborhood walking up & saying«what is that fantastic smell?» & «OMG, please let me try some!» The price point is very fair for the quality of food. And the portion sizes are just right. You may have to wait for your food, but it’s not because they’re slow. They have a well deserved, huge following of foodies, like me, who will travel to dine there. So, if your in the mood for flavorful food, crafted by caring, local people, this is the place to go! And definitely consider them for catering… their menu is much more expansive than what they regularly supply on the truck.

Never really had this type of food before, ordered the St Michael Bifana Sandwich, which had a little kick to it and tasted great. It was a thin slice of pork with a delicious sauce. The Bravas fries are to die for!!! The fries were overflowing in the to-go container and the sauce they used was amazing!!! Only waited about 5 minutes from order time until it was ready. Great service and great food!

This food truck has, no surprise, gained incredible fame in the area and a large following. Regardless of where they stop, there’s always a line. This isn’t due to super slow service, but indeed because everyone just loves them. Over the past few years, they haven’t changed their formula — amazing food with attention paid to the details. They only seem to be getting better! It is worth every penny to visit this food truck. I hope they add a few more«small bites» to their menu other than just sandwiches.

Bravas Fries.. .. Bravas Fries.. .. Bravas Fries!!! We were introduced to this wonderful truck by a close friend who is from Portugal and very picky about the food from his homeland. I will take his word on the authenticity of the portuguese, all I know is that it was damn delicious. The Bravas Fries are a must and the Piri-Piri & Bifanas sandwiches are great. Make sure to wash it all down with a Sumol! Great addition to local food truck scene.

What a great idea a Portuguese truck in providence with Portuguese style food… — Bifanas — Bravas — Sumol(Beverage) — Piri-Piri w/Chicken — Prego — Small Bites — Great H U N K S of Meat… — Support these guys… they must be glad cooler weather is coming up… You also can find the Portugaul truck in East Providence… I am a big fan of portu-guess… Portugal is next to France and Spain…

So tasty, delicious and inexpensive!!! Had bifana, fries & prego. Really couldn’t ask for more. Check out their Facebook page for up to date hours and location. Of late they have been outside east prov town hall.

I have never hunted down a food truck but I love Portuguese food and I wanted to check it out. Once I found them the food is amazing. Everything is made to order, I have had the Portuguese hot dog, a couple of different chicken sandwiches but the best of all is the bravas fries. My mouth waters thinking about it. The guys are very friendly, professional and very personable, not to mention kinda cute.

Been looking forward to trying out this place for months, finally got the chance to this past Friday but sadly I must say was completely disappointed. I placed an order for a prego sandwich(steak sandwich) and an order of bravas fries. After I left with my order noticed that I was given an order of regular fries and not bravas fries which are $ 2 more than the regular fries. The steak a sandwich was ok but not very flavorful. The quality of meat seemed to be cheap and very thin. Nothing like the pictures I’ve seen from their Facebook page. I expected a thicker better quality piece of steak. I’ve had better steak sandwiches in Fall River. In hindsight I probably should have ordered the bifana sandwich which everyone says it’s good. Willing to try again in future if in area hopefully I have a better experience next time.

The bravas fries(topped w/ketchup, garlic aioli and red peppers) are enough of a reason to stop by if you see them. Yum! The prego and bifana sandwiches were both good but could use some extra sauce to counteract the delicious but massive roll. I can see some people not wanting a sloppy sandwich on the go but I wouldn’t mind!

It was good. Ordered a bifana and a burger with some fries. I think I’m a bit spoiled bc my mom and tias make the best Portuguese food, but for 2 guys on a truck they do a pretty good job. I would put more sauce on both sandwiches, but I guess since people are walking around eating them a lot of sauce wouldn’t really make sense. It was cool to see all the food trucks lined up and this one was the busiest. Rock on my Portagee Peeps. One star and you didn’t even eat there? Smh, where’s the Unilocal filter when you need it?

Portu Galo reminds me of my Portuguese grandmother’s cooking. It’s absolutely delicious and priced very well for what you get. They offer steak and egg, bifana, and crispy chicken sandwiches as well as fries and Sumol’s(Portuguese soda). The sandwiches are $ 4 a piece and are very delicious. The line can be long sometimes, but it’s worth the 10 – 15 minute wait.

The small bite sandwich is pretty good, but the Iberian fries are amazing! Try it when you can. Who give reviews when they haven’t ate the food a 1? What a troll.

Found these guys recently, 7pm on a Friday, parked on Angell St, windows open, guys inside, smelling great… CLOSED. Really, guys? If you close early, get off the street!(Or at least don’t get snippy with people who ask to order!) Menu looked tasty. Would have liked to have tried them. **Let me be clear, here, the one star is because of the staff’s crummy attitude and actions. I can’t speak to the food and never said I could.**

I’m not sure why Portu-Galo only has one review: it’s a new staple on the Brown campus at lunch. I’ve been multiple times, and am definitely a fan. I really like the pok cutlet sandwich — it’s pretty lean and comes with nicely grilled onions and tasty sauce. Pros: The price points are very student-friendly. $ 3.50 for a delicious and hearty sandwich, $ 7 for a sandwich, fries and a drink(for an extra dollar you can get the fries with aioli and batatas bravas sauce). The fries are delicious — really nicely done. They are thin and not too crispy, but full of potato goodness. I highly recommend them. Cons: Sometimes a bit of a wait, as there are only two people working in the truck. Not good for a non-meat eater. I would love to see the menu expand a bit with a fish option and a veggie option. Greens on more of the sandwiches would be nice — maybe less authentic but a little more balanced health-wise.

I was extremely happy to see a Portuguese food truck. It certainly makes sense to have one in Providence, and this is a good place. I haven’t had a chance to try everything, but what I have tried is pretty good. They make very nice steak sandwiches and pork cutlet sandwiches(bifana) on fresh papo seco rolls.(not sweet bread, but the good Portuguese rolls that you should eat with savory food!) They also have wonderful fries and batatas bravas. I tried the chourico pasteis(like empanadas), and they were also good. I wish that they had other types of pasteis too(shrimp or bacalhau would be nice). If you want a meaty, very affordable lunch, this is the place. Also, any food truck with all three flavors of Sumol is welcome.
