This art store is great! It hasn’t changed much since I went to RISD for Pre-college. The prices are surprisingly reasonable too, especially when compared to Micheal’s. I think next time I need supplies I’ll just take the trip to Providence, despite the fact Micheal’s about 10 minutes from my house.

This is a great place to buy art supplies and they have a nicely curated selection of books. They have my favorite brands for notebooks(Clairefontaine) and sketchbooks(Holbein). When I’ve stopped by the staff has always been very nice and happy to answer questions.

This is a great little store that has lots of great RISD type items(artistic, useful, fun, whimsical, etc). It could be looked at a place for students to get something they need or a souvenir store for people visiting the Museum or the Providence area overall. Jewelry, RISD apparel, gift card, picture frames, mugs, pins, all kinds of fun stuff… colorful, clean and well stocked.

As they say Exit Through the Gift Shop! I was tempted to purchase a number of items during our visit but I talked myself out of it just because it was not the most fiscally responsible choice for me personally. A lovely place to look for gifts you may not find elsewhere and of course you are supporting the museum.

Great selection of items at a decent price for RISD students. Inventory carries pretty much everything one might need, ranging from gouache paint to stationaries. The back of the store holds the«school spirit» items, including apparel for the«RISD Balls» as well as the«Nads.» The café at the upper level isn’t bad, though I’m not sure if that should be included in this review. The person restocking items was especially helpful and assisted me in locating exactly what I needed.

Simply put, this store makes me happy. I know. That’s a little weird, right? But this store is literally a mood-changer. It has items you won’t ever find together in any other store because the unifier for this store is the artist/alumna and not the products. So next to the funky plastic pencil holder may be a gorgeous glass dish which is next to a display of teas. The store is filled with light and color and cool and beautiful things. Next time you need a unique gift — or a pick-me-up, visit RISD Works.

The idea behind the store is brilliant, yet so simple I don’t know why other design schools don’t do the same thing: «Behind every item is the mind and hand of an artist from Rhode Island School of Design.» This store is full of interesting, creative and beautiful pieces by the alumni and faculty from RISD. Back when I was in school I would have loved an opportunity for someone to showcase my work like this. Items include everything from graphic tote bags to kitchen tools and many had very reasonable prices! If I lived closer I’d frequent this shop often for gifts around the holidays.

I am completely in love with this store. It’s just gorgeous. Almost everything they sell is super-cool, locally designed or made and has a clean beauty to it. In short, this is the single best place to go gift-shopping in town if you’re looking for something really, really special or unique. I’ve purchased several of those marvelous RISD totes here — they come in fun color combinations and are very attractive. They’re a great hostess gift or birthday pressie, and I absolutely love mine. Sure, some of the items are on the pricey side, and there is no parking, but this shop is so lovely that is almost feels as if you’re still in the RISD Museum that it’s attached to. It’s a great place to take out-of-towners for souvenirs or to pick up a gift for someone. Truly.

If you’re looking for a particular art supply, this place would likely have it! They have a variety of other student supplies, too, but the art supplies are really what shine at the RISD Store. I wish I had more to say, but unfortunately we didn’t spend too long here. I did get some really cute paper goods. I’d definitely come back if I’m in Providence!

Great selection of random art stuff. Stuff you actually use in making art, versus the kind of useless«art» stuff you find at other stores that shall remain nameless. The RISD store is not very large, so the collection of items available is highly edited and reflects what students actually need and use. Prices aren’t great, but they aren’t horribly gouging either. Students shop here on a regular basis — it’s the fastest best way to get what you need for projects asap. As such, during times an entire course, or worse, an entire semester’s worth of students appear for their supplies — watch out. Staff will be overworked and grumpy and lines will be way way too long. However, the rest of the time it is quiet and staff is usually friendly. Supplies available include: painting, drawing, photography, bookbinding, sewing(limited), clay(limited — more at the RISD3D store). Also has a nice selection of healthier snacks and ecologically friendly products. There is some RISD paraphanaelia, but as this is a design school, the store is refreshingly light on emblazoned sweatshirts and the like.(probably students aren’t too interested in buying/wearing them).

This store makes me instantly happy. Seriously. Mainly because AC Moore and Michael’s don’t carry the art supplies I’m usually looking for, plus all the wonderful, fascinating art books Barnes and Noble usually has up way too high for me to ever look at(or doesn’t ever have in stock at all), to take a gander at. I need to go back soon for some more supplies…

Pretty much everything that one would expect from a RISD bookstore – art supplies, art books of all kinds, RISD swag, miscellaneous gifts(including a nice selection of craft kits and other fun things for kids), even a small general store and a café – can be found in this cool, refurbished space. I particularly like the building’s centerpiece: a gigantic old painted map of the Rhode Island trade that includes a small Colossus of Rhodes in bottom left corner. I can’t comment on the prices since I don’t know what art supplies and art books should cost, but shopping here is so pleasant that prices don’t seem to matter all that much. When it comes to college bookstores in Providence, RISD seems to have the edge. Why am I not surprised?
