This Banh Me was pretty good for Rhode Island. I’m used to my Banh Me being crispier, fresher, and more tasty though. Sadly, I had better Banh Me at some make-shift stand in Boston during a festival. Banh Me is just one of those things where I’m surprised when people can actually make it in a way that I do not want to devour the whole thing without even thinking. They didn’t mess it up here it just wasn’t a taste I preferred over other tastes. To their credit, the Banh Me my friend had was better than mine and I was super jealous. You really have to order the right thing here. That being said, this was quick and easy. I had a voucher that they wouldn’t take though and that was the whole reason I came. What am I supposed to do with that voucher now? Honestly though, I really want to try the other things they have here so I might be updating this review soon: D they definitely deserve exploring, the taste was unique, it just wasn’t something I’d specifically go back for.

The bad — bad experience. Prep lady dropped some ingredients and just threw it back on my sandwiches. Too much mayo. Bread not cut in the center and too deep. Overall taste was eh… OK and nothing awesome. A little overpriced. Only cash accepted. Not taking the voucher bc owner said he did not authorize the marketing on . The good –Also bought 2 white bread balls(ones with meat inside) and those were good. Advice — go to Boston for great banh mi.

Cliff’s Note: Saigon Sub is the only Vietnamese restaurant in/near Providence where I’ve had a banh mi sandwich that can legitimately be called banh mi. Crusty bread, tangy pickled vegetables, a spice level that I can feel opening up my sinuses, mystery pâté and sauce, this banh mi is legit and I am THRILLED!!! I inhaled my generously sized banh mi inside of 2 minutes and want to lick my hand now. The owner, Danny, also told me it takes him 24 hours minimum to cook his phở. Them’s fighting words, I have had to cook my own phở the past 6 years here b/c the phở everywhere in RI is substandard. Review TBD, if the phở is as promising as the banh mi, I have found my new regular Vietnamese spot in RI.
