Well, it is called the Salted Slate for a reason. Rachel was an amazing bartender, very kind, great drinks. Oysters were not shucked or cleaned well. I got the sea scallop dish, presentation was beautiful, but o.m.g. salty. all of it, the cauliflower was not edible do to the over saturation of the salt. The scallops, which are a bit salty already, had salt on top of them. No appreciation for sea food or steak. My boyfriend, who loves salt, even said everything tasted like salt. His 40 day aged, $ 40, steak which looked amazing, was blasted with salt. We felt silly, but had to ask, due to the name, if everything was supposed to be salty?, Rachel was very apologetic and said no. So, I honestly can say, we won’t be back. Unless we are just grabbing a drink.

Very cute and delicious place to eat. The doughnuts I would highly recommend. Not overly sweet just how I prefer. The waffles and pancakes were a hit as well. It’s located in a cute part of town and the staff was really nice. These out of towners(my husband and I) were satisfied.

Great for brunch and lunch. I have been there many times. Dinner is tasty but it is ridiculously overpriced and the portions are too small. To put it in perspective, you pay 3 times as much for dinner for a portion that is ¼ of the lunch portion.

Brunch today… OVERPRICED! Coffee cold, English muffin stale, $ 8 for granola… dinners a little better if you get the meatballs and the right server. Our server was good and gave us the coffee on the house.

Wow this food was incredible!!! The meatballs were amazing(we seriously scraped every bit of the polenta and pesto off the plate) and octopus cooked absolutely perfect. We also tried the carrots and porkbelly which were simple but had just the right amount of added«kick» on the toppings. Oysters and shrimp were just so-so, but considering how delicious everything else was I still give 4 stars. The best part was the fluffernutter cheesecake… I never eat desert and was amazed at these sweet and savory flavors. Everything was beautifully presented and cocktails were also good. I absolutely live this place and cannot wait to go back!

5 stars for food. 4 stars for ambiance. The food was spectacular. Meatballs were perfectly seasoned and cooked. The sauce with the lamb had just enough pepper to blend so as not to overpower the dish. Both app and entrée dishes came across as being perfectly cooked, well seasoned and quite balanced in flavors. For dessert, try the crème brûlée– the ginger isn’t noticeable but the honey and mini shortbread are nice touches. Only drawback was ambiance. The place was super loud with only a few other small parties. Plan on speaking up and trying to listen closely. Overall, the quality of the food makes this a restaurant worth visiting.

Honestly, this place is just simply not worth the money. You’re paying for a 3 star restaurant in a 5+ star location with great décor. Aesthetic isn’t everything, and unfortunately this place just doesn’t pull its weight in quality compared to the other restaurants in this city. Don’t get me wrong, the competition in Providence is extremely difficult. If this restaurant were in any other city, I’d probably hold it in higher regard, but it has to be compared to the other surrounding options and the bar here is just far above where the Salted Slate is at. I’ve been here twice – once for brunch and once for dinner. The service is absolutely terrible(this is something I can sometimes overlook if a place is really good, especially if they’re busy). Both times I’ve walked in here with 2 – 3 friends and have been met with dumbfounded and rude looks when asking for a table. It doesn’t really end there with the bad service, either. While having dinner, the group I was with decided to split a $ 28 cheese plate before ordering our entrees. This plate had 4 types of cheese each about the size of a golf ball with four tiny slices of subpar bread and some red pepper jelly in the middle. Overlooking the fact that this plate just wasn’t thought out well proportionally, our server took the dish while half the cheese was still on the plate(we had run out of bread before even coming close to finishing it). The entrees are not bad, but they’re also nothing to write home about and at $ 24 – 40 a plate, I just can’t justify this place being worth it. I live in the neighborhood and truly, truly wanted this to be a place I go to often, because it does have a great atmosphere. Unfortunately, bad service and mediocre, expensive food just won’t cut it in Providence. Go to Nick’s on Broadway if you are looking for a good meal, or Birch or Gracie’s or Oberlin or Red Stripe. That being said, if you’re not from the area, this place will probably outdo a lot of other restaurants in cities that don’t have such a good culinary offering.

Came here for a Mother’s Day brunch on Saturday and it was fabulous. The décor is classy and quaint, our service was fantastic, and every single person enjoyed their meal. Two in our party had the eggs Benedict with Canadian bacon. Both had perfectly cooked poached eggs. One in our party got the steak and eggs. The steak was seasoned so well. And the last two in our party got the chopped and Caesar salad with chicken. Both were delicious and filling. But the star of the meal… THEDONUTS. We ordered five, one for each person and I still have so much regret that we didn’t get 10. They are similar to crispy Kreme in the«melt-in-your-mouth» department but you can’t tell they are just homemade and warm and delicious. I want to return for dinner at some point when I am in the Providence area again.

I had the best Friday night dinner with a friend last night. We started sharing appetizers sir ordered the octopus dish I settled in the roasted walrus and county oysters. the octopus dish was SUPERB! I wasn’t a fan of all the oyster topping but overal it got av¾ ratting from the both of us. As for our dinner. The portions are smaller than expected but it left you wanting more not hungry. Perfect ending with domed rinks and dessert. I loved the Almond Pear Cake and my friend gobbled up the fluffer nutter cheesecake!

This cute little restaurant made me feel like I was in New York again… just a little. We arrived around 12ish and it wasn’t too full so we got seated rather quickly. I ordered the steak and eggs and my friend ordered the Spanish omelet, side of bacon and a donut. I saw lots of people ordering the donut. Although I didn’t try it, he said it was really good. My eggs were done perfectly over easy and my steak was cooked medium rare. The steak was salty and peppery and delicious, however it was really tough and there was one piece I couldn’t even chew. However the sweet potato home fries were delicious. Absolutely great spot for brunch. I would definitely come here again for dinner. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the ambiance was nice. The ceilings were really high, which gave me a cold feeling. However, if claustrophobia is an issue, there’s no problem here!

Came here on a Wednesday with my girlfriend(she said she would buy me dinner! swag), and I was pleased to find the place quite empty. The first thing I noticed was the really beautiful interior. The restaurant is as much an upscale bar as it is a restaurant, and the décor reminded me of a cottage inn with very modern stylings. The restaurant interior is a nod to their local grower and producer commitment. All in all, I found the restaurant to be quite peaceful. The waitress was courteous and efficient, not bothering us while we were eating and only checking up on us when necessary. It was a welcome change from bothersome wait staff you find at some other restaurants. We ordered a Spanish Octopus to start, and the Blackbird Farm Steak and Hopkins Lamb. While we were waiting for our food, the chef surprised us with a complimentary drink special which I believe the waitress explained was a sort of cherry purée mixed with brandy in a shot glass? The Spanish Octopus came out cooked perfectly. The octopus was neither rubbery nor too squishy, and was plated with some nicely cooked potatoes and delicious purée. The Blackbird Farm steak for the day was a 10oz sirloin that came with a fennel herb salad and roasted marrow(still in the bone) all served on their trademark salted slate. Although I usually do not enjoy herb salads, this fennel salad was excellent with the potatoes and steak. The bone marrow was full of fatty, meaty flavor and seasoned very generously. I only had a small bite of the Hopkins Lamb, and though I cannot be specific, that one bite was pretty darn good. Overall, a very enjoyable dining experience. There was nothing to not like about the Salted Slate, especially if you aren’t picking up the bill ;)

The service was amazing. The manager kept coming over to ask us about the food and our time there because he knew it was our first time. Everything we ate was delicious. Charcuterie board for two, braised beef with bone marrow and oysters were nice and fresh. Only thing I didn’t like was the smoke coming from the kitchen from the chefs smoking the meat, because It is a small places the smoked filled the room and my eyes were burning. Other than that it was fantastic.

I recently went for brunch. I got the lemon ricotta pancakes. There were 3 pancakes and that was more than enough for me. I tried the donuts. They are a must! They’re warm and fluffy. The staff was really friendly. They squeeze oranges themselves for juice. Other people in my group got chicken and waffles. The portion was a bit on the small size. Everyone who has had the burger has raved about. I haven’t stopped hearing about this burger. Apparently, you’ll never think about burgers the same way after you have one from Salted Slate.

My husband and I went here for brunch one Sunday. I made reservations before hand — which I highly suggest because when we got there at 10, when they opened, several other parties sat after us. We started with the donuts(because, donuts, obviously are always a good appetizer). They are unreal, warm, sugary, soft, doughy greatness. So glad they are only available for dine in because if people bought these to go, they would fly out of there. I had eggs benedict(sans hollandaise, add hot sauce) and it was delightful. The potatoes were delicious. My husband ordered the steak and eggs and was very, very pleased. Top off our meal with mimosas, can’t get better. The atmosphere is light and airy, lots of windows that let in a great amount of light. I love the tables and the décor. Definitely sad it took us so long to try this space out!

Some of you who regular this place must be wondering why 4 stars instead of 5. Well, because we have only been here once and i would like to go back for consistency. We sat at the bar, seeing that we went there unexpectedly and did not have a reservation. I must admit that sitting at the bar was pretty neat. My fiancé made friends with the bartender and a customer who was also sitting at the bar. For an appetizer, we had the charcuterie dish. I’m not a big fan of cured meats, but I was amazed at the flavors of the ham and beef. I couldn’t muster up the courage to try the lamb, but my fiancé said it was delicious. The nuts and pickles on the dish were a nice addition. For entrees, we had the pork and the steak. The pork was tender and juicy with lots of flavor. My fiancé raged about his steak and how amazing it was. He also enjoyed the bone marrow side, which apparently is hard to find at restaurants. I will say, the bill was a bit more than I expected, but I think that because we were having great conversation and such a nice experience, we might have had more drinks than we remember. Needless to say, we will be back soon. We definitely would like to try their brunch menu

I went here for dinner with my family last weekend after deciding to try someplace we haven’t been to before. Everything from start to finish was absolutely amazing. We are definitely foodies and really appreciate the whole farm to table, local, real food theme that is going on as we own a Heath food store in CT. For dinner I had the filet with bone marrow which was my first time having marrow. I couldn’t believe how delicious it was and it came out steaming hot and was perfectly cooked. My filet was tender and flavorful, which surprised me since I hardly order steak from a restaurant for fear of it being over cooked. The chefs here really know what they’re doing! For apps we also had oysters and the vegetable plate for 4. The oysters were small(how I prefer them) and local from Charlestown! As for the vegetables, they served us a beautiful and colorful spread of raw carrots, radishes, cucumbers, etc with 3 different dips. Oh and all of our food came out on slate boards, not plates. I though that was a really creative touch :) lastly, for dessert I had coffee and cheesecake which was probably the best cheesecake I’ve ever had and the coffee was organic and came out in individual French presses. The Salted Slate really pays attention to the details and I highly highly recommend this place if you love real food with an artistic twist!

On flavor alone, I give the Salted Slate an A+. Also, it wasn’t busy on a Sunday morning for brunch, which was cray. Our hostess was remarkably gloomy though, barely looking at us at all when we arrived, and looking like she was going to jump off a building after she slumped over to pour water in our glasses and sulked away. Unfortunately the steak for my steak and eggs was incredibly undercooked, practically raw. I ordered it medium, and it was translucently purple. And there’s really no excuse because they cut the steak up for you before serving. The chef should have noticed it, and the waitress should have noticed it. My husband will usually take one for the team and eat it for me because he doesn’t mind rare meat, but even he couldn’t eat a few of the pieces which were completely raw. Luckily the bacon and eggs were good, and had I been able to eat the steak, it was delightfully seasoned. If you’re wondering why I didn’t send it back, our waitress didn’t return for some time, and it seemed pointless by the time she did. For some reason, I still want to go back, but when I do, I’ll order my steak well-done.

After my last meal at this establishment, I do not understand how they have 4 out of 5 stars on Unilocal! When my party of four first arrived, we were encouraged by the hostess to sit at a high-top — I saw a number of open regular tables and requested one of them instead — the response was one of confusion and disappointment(?!) but I was obliged. We sat and ordered our drinks which were brought out promptly and all were pleased with what we ordered. We then ordered the cheese and charcuterie plates — for $ 25 each(yes — $ 50 total) we received a paltry amount of cheese and meat(meat that wasn’t even house cured/prepared/interesting and given the price, that was disappointing). As we sat there hungry, our entrees soon arrived — mine and one of my companions were tasty but left us feeling quite hungry(I ate more food once I got home — 3 medium-sized scallops). My other companions were less than thrilled(one ended up cutting enough fat off his meat that there wasn’t much left to eat). When the check came, we saw that we were upcharged for rye on 2 of our drinks — rye Manhattans were requested and at no point were we told there would be an upcharge(it was Bulleit rye, not that pricey, and the base price for the Manhattans was $ 12 — plenty to charge for a cocktail to begin with when NOT adding a top shelf liquor). We waited about 10 – 15 minutes before our rather disheveled server(hair hanging out all over the place, shirt untucked, not looking ready for work in any way) came back and stated the upcharge had been taken off — no apologies. Throughout the dinner, I observed the hostess walking throughout the restaurant, tank-topped and sweater hanging off her shoulders, entirely out-of-place for a restaurant with the prices they were asking for their food. Overall, I was entirely disappointed(honestly, having never been too impressed in the past) and will not being going back until I hear from someone else with the same feelings I have(and I do know some folks who feel the same as myself) has told me this restaurant has changed for the better(or if someone else is paying and I have food at home to supplement). So sad — great location, so much possibility, but too much ego and not enough follow through for my taste.

You know. It’s been a while since I’ve tried a new restaurant here in Providence. I have built such a foundation of staples that whenever I get a craving it’s for one of the restaurants I have already tried. Getting to somewhere new is risky you know. The restaurant doesn’t always live up to the hype and sometimes the chef has an off day. But how else is a Unilocaler to review without branching out to something new? Without any specific in mind, I decided to try The Salted Slate last night. Sort of hidden within Wayland Square, you can actually pass by this place without even noticing it. It’d be too bad because you’re missing a star restaurant here in Providence. The Salted Slate features new American type foods putting a artsy culinary twist on what you traditionally think of when ordering the food. They are after all«the salted slate» and feature a ton of cheese choices and chacuterie on a slab of slate. They have other great starters too to choose from but we were but two people and really, how much can a pair of people eat? We started off with the chacuterie and the bun starter. The chacuterie was fantastic with 3 different choices of meats, pickled vegetables and candied nuts. If i just had a few more pieces of bread to go along with my salted meats, it would have been a perfectly balanced dish. Nonetheless, I couldn’t deny how fantastic the meat choices were. The Asian bun starter is exactly what you would imagine. Two Asian sausage buns presented in a steamer. The sausage was superb. I’m sure it’s something they made themselves. The bun itself was not a typical«Asian» bun but very delicious. I would say though if I were to do things differently, perhaps a smaller bun, or more meat would make it the perfect little dish. Regardless, something I really enjoyed. We then proceeded to the appetizer and had the octopus. Sometimes people have problems cooking octopus. It’s too chewy or it’s undercooked. It becomes quite problematic and can really set the tone for the rest of the meal. That wasn’t the case here. The octopus was tender and flavorful and just enough leaving you satisfied and not overstuffed for the next course. Finally we ended with the lamb which today I was told was leg of lamb. Medium rare, cooked perfectly season beautifully. Flavorful and moist. And who wouldn’t top off a great meal like this without a little dessert? Hidden honey crème brûlée was really wonderfully done and really gelled well with the rest of the menu. Plenty of parking around on the streets. I really wish they would build this area up because there is a lot of potential given the residential neighborhood around.

We walked in on a Saturday morning for brunch. We didn’t have reservations so the three of us chose to sit at the bar. We each ordered a drink, a mimosa(fresh squeezed orange juice!!!,) a bloody mary, and a cold drip(maybe that’s not the name but it’s a coffee cocktail.) I ordered a field salad with shrimp. Wowwww. The dressing was amazing. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. I could’ve licked the plate if I wasn’t in a restaurant. My boyfriend ordered the Eggs Benedict with Canadian Bacon. This is his usual when we go out for breakfast so he was happy when it tasted great and the price didn’t break the bank. My roommate ordered the Eggs Benedict with the Salmon. She said it was good but was not a fan of the sweet potatoes in the home fries. I on the other hand ate everyone of them off her plate and my boyfriends plate because they were way to delicious to waste. I cannot wait to come back for lunch or dinner. Totally amazing food. Also, the Bartender was great. Refilled our waters, etc.

Second time here and after giving this place a second shot my advice is to dine elsewhere. I went with a party of 4 and we ordered the charcuterie and cheese for 4. At $ 25 each = $ 50 I can’t begin to describe how little there was. 6 slices of cheese and 3 types of cured meats. Nothing was good enough to write about, but yet I’m on Unilocal writing about it. The entrees all followed suit… portions that were just too small. I’m not a big guy! I shouldn’t leave a meal like this hungry. What really was the icing on the cake was an up-charge of $ 3 on top of what was already a $ 12 for a Rye Manhattan??? After I saw the charge and brought it to the servers attention they removed it from the bill, but if you don’t specify a name brand how is it justified to still up-charge? This was upsetting because I really don’t like writing negative reviews!

Visited with friends: a regular and a newbie! We ordered huevos rancheros(me), ricotta pancakes, and the frittata. Our entrees were well-balanced — the huevos rancheros features the most delicous piece of barbacoa I’ve ever had — but the service was a bit lacking. Refills were hard to come by, and we waited about 15 minutes for our check before finally snagging another table’s server.

I dined here for brunch just over a year ago and am so ashamed to admit I haven’t been back since! The décor is definitely classy and trendy, so it was a really positive experience even just taking it all in from the bar. I like The Salted Slate for the location, the impeccable interior, and the interesting menu. Where it falls short for me is the inconsistent food and the disappointing service. Fix these two things, and you’ve got a stellar restaurant. Ignore them, and you kind of take every reason to make the Salted Slate a destination off the table. The first brunch we had was great, as was the second, The third was awful and left us both with food poisoning, which is dreadful(especially when you’re pregnant!). Lunch here is better — I really love their chicken sandwich — but every dish I’ve has just seems to be missing something… Seasoning? Freshness? I can’t quite put my finger on it, but again… So close. I recently went back after a long hiatus, and while I was reminded of how much I love the space and idea, it just falls short for me.

I regret not taking many photos here. I think I was in pure chill mode and really not in a Unilocal mode. This was a pretty laid back spot and I look forward to my next visit. When we arrived for our 10:00AM reservation the place was just opening up so we pretty much had carte blanche at any seat in the joint that seated five. The Salted Slated is located in a beautiful part of Providence that will make you forget that you are still even in Providence. The establishment itself embodies the surrounding atmosphere its décor making a cool place to just relax. After consuming enough boozy beverages the previous two days, I decided to forgo the breakfast cocktails on the menu. Yeah, that decision lasted for about two minutes until I decided to go with the dill infused drink on the menu. I am not a breakfast/brunch booze person but this drink was more like a refresher suitable for any meal. Prior to arriving at the Salted Slate I was torn between a few dishes. After waiting to see what the members of my party ordered, and some consultation with the waitress, I decided to go with the sweet side of the menu and ordered Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. It is a good sign when the waitress says excellent choice. I concur; I made an excellent choice. I received three large pancakes cooked to a nice golden color, with a hint of lemon, served with a side of delicious maple syrup. I was initially going to order the«The Chubby Duckling», a signature dish at The Salted Slate’s. The Chubby Duckling comes with 2 sunny side pastured duck eggs, herbed confit duck leg and poutine. My wife and her sister ordered it, and I can say it looked really good. I didn’t taste the eggs, but the duck is something I am need to order during my next visit whether it be breakfast or lunch. All good meals require a sweet ending. If you ordered The Chubby Duckling you are probably going to need something a little sweet. This is where their warm doughnuts come into play. Do yourself a favor and order some. They are not the best doughnuts but they are good and they are served warm. The coffee is good but a little on the light side. An establishment that serves hearty brunch items should serve something with a little more wake up power.

This place is incredible! I’m not even sad that this is the Farmstead’s predecessor. I’m still dreaming about their poutine 4 days later. Came here for brunch on Saturday with my boyfriend. It maintains Farmstead’s rustic atmosphere, with the grainy wooden tables and fresh flowers in mason jars. We were seated promptly by the friendly hostess, and our water was constantly topped off. The food also came at a reasonable time. They don’t give any complimentary starters like bread or whatnot. We ordered the Chubby Duckling and the charcuterie board. The charcuterie board, in my opinion, was not worth the ~$ 15. It came with about 8 slices in total of prosciutto and another type of cured white meat, alongside a few crispy, cubic inch sized squares of bread, whole-grain mustard, and a couple sprigs of pickled vegetables. Everything was really fresh and delicious, but there was just so little of it for the hefty price. This might be good as a starter, but definitely not the main course. The chubby duckling, however, was very generous in size. It came with a good portion of insanely delicious French fries, smothered in savory gravy and the tangiest, stretchiest cheese curds I’ve ever encountered. Inside the metal tray were also a tender, juicy roasted leg of duck, two perfectly cooked sunny side up duck eggs, and an arugula salad topped with a grilled tomato slice. The whole meal was an incredible, umami delight. I know I complained about the charcuterie portions, but my boyfriend and I split both and left very happily stuffed. In conclusion, 10⁄10 would go again. Their poutine is just begging me to return

Upon walking into the Salted Slate, it had the makings of at least a 4 star spot. Great décor, good music, friendly hostess, we were seated in a short amount of time on a Sunday at the brunch hour, things were looking good! The Bloody Mary was delish, that gets four stars. The menu options looks good, that gets four stars. What brought it down for me to 3 stars was our lousy waitress, the extremely long wait for food, the fact that my chicken and waffle was only so so and the succotash they served as a side. Succotash? For breakfast/brunch? No thank you. Apparently the few other plates chosen by my group were also good but no one left raving. Maybe I need to give this place another try, maybe someone else should too… but for now it was only a three star experience for me.

Huge portions! By looking at pictures on Unilocal I thought portions were small to average size but they are good if you are hungry or else split with someone else. We came for brunch on a Sunday and was seated right away. Service was friendly and helpful. Décor was elegant and clean. For the food… 1. Doughtnuts — average size, glazed simple donut, made fresh and recommend this if you are craving a donut 2. French Toast — 4 crispy halves with strawberry and a cream on top. Comes with syrup on the side. I thought this was was a tasty but not overly sweet french toast. Could be a little more cinnamony but solid nonetheless. 3. Drip coffee — average size for $ 3. Not too strong but not weak either. Nothing to write home about. Overall, I’d come back to try other things on their menu
