Super unfair to hear that they’ve closed! I hope to see them alive and well somewhere else in the PVD very soon.

I’m very sad to hear that Ugly American will be closing on January 31st(their landlord won’t renew their lease). I plan to make the trip down there from Boston this weekend for one last Cheese. This has always been one of my favorite places, from when they were in Fall River, to their relocation to Rhode Island. It doesn’t sound like much can be done at this point, but at least sign the petition, please?!

Love this place! Amazing unpretentious food! Try everything; it’s all delicious! Burgers are cooked exactly how you want them and the specials are always worth it. Make a trip here soon!

I love cheese. It’s true. I even had a blog all about it. I especially love when you cook or bake cheese and it gets kinda browned and crunchy, like when it leaks out of the side of your grilled cheese sandwich into the pan. So this place, Ugly American, has a burger called«The Cheese.» The burger itself is delicious, but it’c covered in a ton of gooey cheese. So much that the ends have all the brown crunchy buts that I love(as mentioned above). I think everything here tasted nice. Oh, it’s BYOB! And there’s a liquor store across the street! location, location, location, my alcoholic, burger-loving friends.

I have been to the Ugly American several times and have never been disappointed. The burgers are juicy and delicious and they are cooked properly. If you order a burger rare you actually get it rare. The menu is unique and there are always interesting specials. Great spot for lunch or if you are craving a great burger.

Every time I have been the food is great, They do a burger really well and they always have great specials. My favorite is the onion rings, they are seasoned perfectly and nice and thick! My husband usually gets the burger called the cheese… so ooey gooey and perfect, they always cook it to the temperature you ask for. Service is super friendly. Highly recommend this place if you are looking to indulge in some comfort food.

Best burger I’ve had in awhile. Had the half fries/half onion strands to go with. And they have Coke in glass bottles! It’s out of the way, rough around the edges and all sorts of awesome. You must go.

The best chicken tenders I have ever had(they’re beer-battered). Get the Portuguese mozambique sauce with them– you will not be sorry. Also the chocolate-covered bacon is great. Couldn’t pass that one up and I’m glad I didn’t. They have a late night menu for when you need a midnight snack– everything they serve after a certain point is fried. EDIT: Have now had the macaroni and cheese poppers. Phenomenal.

My wife and I debated whether to go home or just straight to the hospital after eating here on a not so busy Friday night. I ordered the wing basket as an appetizer. So they put a load of fries on top of 6 over-fried wings and then dump some kind of sauce over top that gets soaked up by the fries and never ends up touching the wings. This meant a pile of soggy fries on top of some super crispy tasteless wings. Next came our burgers. Disgusting would be a compliment to these burgers. I got mine medium and it came a little rarer than that, which I expected from the sign posted. You know when you see a nice bright juicy pink in the middle of a burger and you know it is a good quality of meat? Well that is not the rare I received. It was a reddish-brown cold mushy middle that did not inspire confidence in the meat. The entire burger was a tasteless mass of undercooked, sub par beef. The bottled water was good though. I would write more about this place, but I think my wife and I may have made the wrong decision about our post dinner destination. Which way to Miriam?

I am downgrading my review of the Ugly American to three stars. I continue to go back because the buffalo cheese fries are amazing. They blow my mind every single time. But today, I had a hankering for a burger and was debating between BBC and the Ugly American. I checked the web to see if Ugly was even open since it is Sunday, and everything on the internet, including their own web site, indicates that they are closed on Sunday. However, I had a hankering for those aforementioned fries, so I called the number, and low and behold, they are actually open on Sundays. When I mentioned it when I picked up my food, they acknowledged that the knew everything was inaccurate on the web but didn’t seem to care. Whatever, that is their own loss of business. However, when I got home with my cowboy burger(ordered rare and came out medium rare, as per normal), it was sooo salty. It was completely inedible. I ate the bacon off the top, gorged myself on my fries, and my husband and I both tossed our burgers and then gulped down 2 liters of water — each — because of the salt explosion that was the hamburger meat. I think I’ll save my trips to Ugly American for late night fries when I am stumbling home from Wickenden Pub.

No frills, great food and the buffalo fries will make you weep at the knees. As a certified«veg-head» it’s great to walk into a burger joint and see you can sub a veggie patty for any burger.(I’ve got to plug the Tex Mex – guacamole, cheese, onions… what’s not to love?!) The foods both decadent and comforting, but if you are counting calories keep walking. The icing on the delicious burger cake is that the place is BYOB. Need I say more? Ordering can be a little confusing, hence my four star rating. If they add some signage, I will bump up my rating with pleasure.

Ugly American is an apt description for how you will feel after you eat here, no doubt. That being said, holy sh*t, it was good. Fried pickles, chocolate covered bacon, and a really good burger. The prices were so incredibly cheap that I thought the burger would be a lot smaller than it was, and we ended up ordering too much food. I had every intention of eating the wings, but it was just not meant to be. I had the burger with bleu cheese and onions(forget the name) and it was great. I didn’t notice any frozen tastes, but I don’t think I am sensitive to that to begin with. The fried pickles are spears, slices, and the occasional banana pepper. There isn’t too much batter, and almost tastes tempura-like. Much like that one awkward time in college, the chocolate-covered bacon was a rebellious experience that I had to try just to get it out of my system. It was good, a strange consistency, but overall I’m just glad to say that I did it, and probably won’t ever do it again. I don’t know that I would go to this place if I didn’t get my hair done at the(AMAZING — see previous review) salon next door, but I do look forward to post-haircut takeout every 5 weeks.

Came here for the first time and ordered«The Cheese» burger. It was yummy, cooked just how I requested. Their fries are good, too. Both portions were massive and well worth the price.

Mmmmm sweet potato fries… tasted like they were dipped in butter without being greasy. There are tons of options, mostly diner/burger joint style, so I figured that I would start with something simple. I ordered the Black and Blue, pretty straightforward and nothing overly complex. Looking back, I should have ordered medium-well or even well-done. On that note, make sure you take a look at the burger guide with the meat temperatures(I didn’t see the guide until way after I ordered). Regardless, the burger was tasty and the caramelized onions went perfectly with the blue cheese. Ugly American is a no-fuss place, seems to be very child friendly– one of the walls was covered with children’s artwork. It’s a cozy space that’s reminiscent of a well-established restaurant, not something that just opened a few months ago. Looking forward to try more burgers and treat myself to a root beer float!

3 stars for the chocolate covered bacon and funky décor. No stars for the below average burger. I got the Cowboy and was so dissapointed– flavorless patty, no wheat bun option, and BADBBQ. Don’t waste your time here– go right to Ted’s.

I went to Ugly American as part of a meet up group which celebrates the BYOB places in the area. We arrived in the early evening, when they weren’t too busy. They laid us out a nice spread of their appetizers, including fried mac n cheese, jalapeño poppers, and wings. I didn’t try the wings but the others were quite tasty. I love jalapenos so those were my favorite. The menu is mostly burgers, chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, and several different options for side dishes. I ordered the chicken burger as part of their ‘build your own burger’ option. I ordered it with peppers and wing sauce. The burger itself was pretty yummy, seasoned nicely and grilled to the perfect temperature. The wing sauce, on the other hand, had a weird taste to it. It was kind of a mixture of Italian dressing and possibly. dill? Whatever it was, it didn’t taste like the buffalo sauce that I was expecting and I wasn’t really a fan. All in all, the Ugly American seems like a fun place, with a good menu and friendly owners. I would go back but would order a different sauce to top my burger with.

I visited this location the 2nd day that it was open, which was probably my first mistake. The fries were terrible(it seemed like they were soggy), and the grilled cheese I ordered was average. My friend got the burger which was tasty, but nothing amazing. Also, they are open at unusual hours, and close early. I will give this place another shot once they have gotten their routine down. I have heard good things about this spot, and will hopefully have a better experience next time

I’m always looking for a good burger place. Everyone around me loves Five Guys and I think its a hyped up BK. I love different toppings and the Ugly gave me that. The menu is very cool which is what brought me hear. We started with the fried pickles lol and they wear the bomb. Come on its fried how can you go wrong? I ordered the tex-mex burger, the season was awesome. There is a sign telling you to order one temp higher on your burger, well that was wrong. I love red meat and I always get it rare. My burger which I ordered med rare was med, live and learn. Also the guacamole was like a half a teaspoon when I was hoping for at least a heaping table spoon. The fries and onion straws were awesome. Some ac would have helped as well since it was like 85 outside. Definitely worth the trip.

Let me start off with saying its not the best but not the worst i’ve had either. What I ordered was the«cowboy burger» which is the standard patty, fried onions, cheese, bacon and BBQ sauce. It was good and cooked perfectly however the meat itself could use some flavor. The patty tasted like it was held together with egg and it was played with abit much.(When making a burger if you play with the meat it will not be juicy it will be firm and taste almost like a meat-ball.) But what can I say, the wait-staff was friendly, they cooked the burger perfect and the fries were hand-cut. Also the price was extremely fair for the quality of food. Not to sure if I would go back, maybe if I was in the area but I would not specifically drive there. Not a fan but not bad.

Stopped in to check out the new local burger joint on Ives. They apparently moved from Fall River and were highly rated there. I had the«Cowboy Burger» which was a patty with cheese, bbq sauce, and onion straws. It was pretty dang good. The patty was nice and juicy, the onion straws were great, and the bun was good. The real star of the show was the fries. I had the plain(not sweet potato) fries and they were fantastic. Not too thin, not too thick, crispy, hot, not soggy. SInce they just opened they don’t have a full menu up and running yet but what they have is already extensive. I will be coming back to try more stuff. The only warning I would give is that they cook their burgers to temp and they do it the right way. This means that if you say medium they will make you a burger with a warm pink center. I know some people think that is undercooked for a burger(they really want medium well). If you think that don’t order it medium(they even say so on a sign on their wall).
