Love this place! Hole in the wall on the east side, affordable drinks and good music. Can get crowded on the weekends but all in all a great spot to chill with friends have drinks and even play pool!

This place is through and through a dive bar, but in a fun way. The place is frequented by some local Rhody characters giving it an interesting vibe.

One of my favorite(dive) bars in providence. This unpretentious gem doesn’t pretend to be anything it isn’t, right down to the dollar drafts that I haven’t gotten the courage to try yet. Outside is decorated to be a tiki bar and there’s limited seating but well worth waiting for if you can snag a table. A great place to hang out with friends(if they’re the very non-prissy type).

This bar lived up to our expectations 100%. If you appreciate nautical décor and cheap drinks, boy is this the place for you! But if you’re hung up on minor details like, say, sticky floors, mildewy odors, bizarre music selection, then be gone! We don’t need you here. I can’t speak to the quality of the stuffies, but the fact that they even have them is charming in itself. The barkeep is friendly, the clientele makes for great eavesdropping, and it’s walkable to Wickenden and other places.

You have to take Captain Seaweeds for what it is — a dive bar. They have 5 beers on tap, including the infamous Capt Seaweeds Lager, which is just Natty Lite, but they have a pretty extensive bottle selection. The inside is a little sad, so I don’t go there in the winter, but come the warmer months, the patio is what it’s all about. Decorated with every imaginable kitschy nautical themed item you can imagine, the décor makes for a great ice breaker at the beginning of the night. There are tons of tables, half circular, half picnic tables and all have umbrellas over them which makes this a cool place even in the sun. Be warned though, it is still a dive bar so the regular clientelle has just as much character as the décor.

Great place to go in summer and sit outside. Sea themed with $ 4 pints of Goose Island IPA! Finally, a dive bar with dive bar prices! I also won their lobster raffle last year.

Great dive bar without being TOO divey! This place is a great balance of cheesy nautical décor and cheap drinks, yet clean restrooms. What could be better? Even the bartender and what seemed to be «regular» patrons were super friendly, which is usually not typical of a local dive bar. I really enjoyed the old school tunes on the juke box and the pool table(pretty cheap for both). The patio in the back is covered and lit up, but it was a bit cold and rainy for me to venture out. I’ll definitely hit this place up again!

Holy(awesome) dive bar, Batman. This place is so kitschy with the nautical theme, I’m in love! Cheap drinks, even though it’s a «dive» it seems fairly clean, juke box with some oldies, a pool table, and an awesome looking back patio(it was pouring rain when I was there though, boo) makes for a bar I will surely be back to!

Something is Missing Pros: Divey Old Setting Employees Drink Deals Cons: Bar is too small Strange Vibe I usually like dive bars but this one is strange. The décor is weird, the pool table takes up a large space in the place and the bar is way too small. This place is probably great for regulars but if you just want to stop in for a drink it kind of stinks. Like a morgue. Pass Thanks

I went here a few times as a youngin’ and never made my way back round that part of town til a couple weeks ago. After getting Thai food across the street we naturally wanted drinks, and the Captain’s was within eye shot. My friends? Skeptical. Me? Pretty much the same. I was confident the place was cash only, but turns out its not(I have not been since 2009 so this may account for this shoddy recollection). Inside was packed, oh, yes, this is totally a student hangout. Saw all the usual suspects, pool, jukebox, etc. I knew there was a patio, and we made our way out there. The patio is a tiki and pirate themed wonderland. A tacky oasis in a backyard. Exactly where I wanted to spend one of the last official summer nights drinking. I was sad when they came out before 11 to tell us they were going to shut the yard down. They still had the infamous seaweed brew for a buck or two, but alas I couldn’t get myself to down a plastic cup of white handle once I saw they accepted plastic and got a mean gin and tonic.

In an area of the city that sports quite a few hidden neighborhood dives, this one has an aura of character that warrants a visit. The inside is small, yet laced with nautical paraphernalia and neighborhood cliental. It rocks the dive bar staples: jukebox, pool table, side tables, and drunk people. The beer selection is surprisingly stacked for what you would expect, albeit mostly bottles. Outside is a real treat, with back patio laced in nets, ropes, and other pieces of what may actually be authentic oceanside gear. The whole thing has an island feel to it that may make you forget your sitting in a back yard in Fox Point. Great spot for groups on the weekend(cheap pitchers) but make it stop #1 as it closes by midnight. A Story: Top 5 most bizarre experiences in the city of Providence, and I grew up here. Went for the first time with with only knowing ‘hey, 2 dollar beers!’ And 2 dollar beers I did, my friends. After every beer, came a raffle ticket. Without thinking anything of it, the numbers were called and by some contrary behavior of the universe I was blessed with a win! But, a win of what you ask? The bartender leaves to go to the back and returns to hand me a tray of two live lobsters in a bed of mussels. Yes, after making slightly intoxicated friends with my two new crustaceous colleagues, I ate like a king for two straight days. All for buying what I believe is PBR with a Seaweed’s label pasted over it.

Captain seaweeds is the crown jewel of foxpoint bars. It’s cheap, local friendly, has a pool table, foosball table and jukebox! The patio is a kitschy delight with tiki décor, a patio and captain seaweed himself! As if you needed more enticement: Thursday night is lobster raffle night. Every drink you buy gets you one chance closer to a late night lobstah steam!

Sitting outside with my friends drinking cheap beer. What’s not to love? Just set your expectations to remember Captain Seaweeds is a dive bar. There are no fancy drinks, no servers, no food. It’s a friendly bar where you can sit outside and enjoy weather with your friends, or you can sit inside and play pool. There is no food but it’s okay to bring food with you. Dok’s deli is next door so getting food is easy. This could easily become that place where everybody knows your name and is always glad you came.

Captain Seaweeds gets 3 stars in the winter, 4 stars in summer. Why? They have an awesome outdoor seating area reminscent of Bikini Bottom(hayyy Spongebob fans). Oh, and if you come on thursdays, they raffle off a lobster! That’s exciting, right?! Do not get the Seaweed’s draft. This advice is coming from a broke college student — IT’S NOTWORTHIT. I think it’s seltzer. I swear it’s not beer. Splurge on a draft of some name-brand brew(i.e. coors would be better). Also — the bartenders here have always been super nice! Never pretentious or rude, which I like a lot.

Cheap place to drink. They have $ 6 pitchers of Seaweed’s Draft which kind of tastes like PBR. It has a very eclectic clientele to say the least. The best way to describe Seaweeds is divvy on the inside, tropical oasis on the outside. If you want to drink cheap on a nice night, Captain Seaweed’s is a good place. The only drawback is the patio closes at 11pm.

Loved this place. Dive bar that’s more kitschy than creepy. The décor is worth a visit alone(esp. the patio). Booze is cheap($ 1 house lager!!), and the bartender there when I went was very cool. My friend was feeling experimental, so she would point to a strange, uncommon liquor and ask the bartender to come up with a creative cocktail for it. Fun times!

Arrrghhh! You and the cap’n can make it happen! Captain seaweeds is the type of place that should be a vegas bar or in the deck of a ship in a pirate movie. This place is great! I had no idea what to expect when I brought… a hummer limo of 20 people in here for my birthday. There was sword play, there were mermaids, there was swashbuckling pirates shooting us from the crows nest! The ale flowed like the spirit of the ocean, and the women dressed like the sirens of the sea! But seriously, dollar beers, 2 dollar ‘no comment’ jungle juice, good crowd, good bartenders, pool table, and an outside area I call«Davey Jones Locker»(Or DJL for short) where there are statues of skeleton pirates and women growing out of the walls. Tiki torches, a grill, propane fueled heaters, a river that circles around the whole area with trees, and large rustic fences keeping out the common land grubbin folk from the streets. I give this place 4 thumbs up, can’t wait to try it out in the heat. DRINKUNTILTHEWOODENWALLWOMENCOMETOLIFE! ARRRRGHHHH

Let me start off by saying that I will definitely be returning to this location in the future. Stopped in here with a bunch of friends on a bar hopping evening and truly wished I had more time to spend. Yes, this is a dive bar. Is that a bad thing? Absolutely not. Captain Seaweed(expertly depicted on the front door of this establishment) must have decorated this place with baubles, paintings, and tchotchkes acquired on his many treacherous adventures across the oceans of the world. Sharks toting human arms, ancient scrolls, oil painting of ships, tiki roofs, skeletal pirates, and curvaceous mermaids adorn the inner and outer walls of this bar. Well-lit, the explosion of nautical themed items combined with scattered seating provide for a quirky, interesting, but enjoyable experience. Although it was about 20 degrees outside, many of us went outside to explore and enjoy the open-air seating. We were surprised to find an outdoor heater and promptly turned it on as we huddled around it. I would be interested in relaxing out there during appropriate weather and utilize the seclusion it provides from the busy nature of Ives St. It interests me that there is a residential deck located just above all the action of the outdoor patio for this business.. . I can only imagine what its like to have a nautical/tropical themed backyard as a view. Drinks are ridiculously cheap here.. . offers of $ 1 Captain Seaweeds Lager and a $ 2 glasses of mysterious concoctions labeled«Comment» and«No Comment» are sure to go easy on the wallet. With friends who live in the area, this place is perfect to walk to and grab a beverage. Who cares about who makes up the crowd? We are all there to get a beer and maybe enjoy some time with friends.
