The store has a wide selections of teas, herbs and supplements. I went to to look for ginseng tea, I ended up leaving with a couple boxes of teas and supplements. I am a big fan of eating healthy. Fairly large selection of drinking tea or medicinal Chinese herbs/teas for the area. If you have an ailment and want to go the eastern medicine route, the lady at the counter can help you locate what you need. Unilocalers take note: there are no acupuncture services here.

I was thinking to myself the other day, «Self,» I thought, «we really need some dried crocodile meat, prostate-health tea, and a pillow-sized bag of unidentifiable mushrooms, but where will we ever find them?» Stymied, I swore to cut back on my drinking and do something more productive with my life than pining away for inscrutable ingredients. It was a hard thing to do, but such is the way of unrequited desire. We mourn and we move on. Well, you can imagine my surprise when I walked in to Yuen Yuen this weekend… there it was! The holy grail! Not only did I find everything I’d been looking for above, but also dried seahorses, packets of food-grade(?) gypsum(perfect for drywall casserole), large, cheap packets of lovely spices, and stacks of sweet snacks. They even had Chinese medicinal booze! This was a revelation; no longer did I have to separate my drinking and my passion for reptile flesh! Halle-freakin’-lujah! As odd as this place is to the standard gwailo(i.e, me), it smells great inside, the staff is friendly, and they’ve got every sort of tea you could want, whether medicinal or just for drinking. It’s a pretty neat place, and they’ve got some cool things, not the least of which is their traditional Chinese apothecary. Definitely worth a browse, at the very least!
