I was really excited to try this place when I heard that Utah finally had a Taiwanese shaved ice place. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. I got the strawberry shaved ice with peach sauce, mochi, and popping boba as toppings ! It was too sweet, sticky, and tasted cheap. Did not really hit the spot for my cravings. Definitely not as good as the legit stuff I’ve tried. I’m willing to give it another try though for the other shaved ice flavors and lay off the peach sauce for condensed milk.

This place is 4 star in terms of customer service and what the owner is trying to do but gets a 3 star in overall authenticity. I’ve got to give it to the owner, she’s super sweet and thought to bring this concept from Taiwan even though she’s never been. The menu has options in terms of flavors, toppings and sauces for $ 4 which is a nice, cold treat. Otherwise, having come from LA and been to Taiwan many times(my family is from there), it’s not the most authentic but it’s probably the closest you’ll get in Provo.

More like Rita’s than regular shaved ice. $ 4.00 gets you a flavor of ice, topping(boba or mochi balls), and syrup. I went with Taro, mochi, and ginger and was not disappointed.

I first discovered Taiwanese shaved ice in LA and I immediately loved it. My wife first had it in Singapore and she shared it with me when we were in LA. Banning’s is a little toned down in terms of options and favors. We still like it though and the reason I gave it a 4 is basically the options could have been explored. For instance, adding real fruits on their toppings as an option. Regardless, we’re still delighted of their product and specially customer service. It’s a little intimidating to order since a lot of the local customers are not aware of the TSI. But I guarantee you, once you had a taste of it, you’ll definitely be back for more specially during summer! We’re very happy that we have one available, it’s a ways out of our place but we’ll definitely drop by if we’re in the area and spread the word as well!

Had Taiwanese shaved ice in LA for the first time a couple months ago and loved it. I never thought I would have it again, especially in Provo. Luckily we discovered Bao Bing. The texture, taste and all together experience of Taiwanese shaved is totally different, unique and in my opinion better than traditional shaved ice. The flavors here range from sweet to savory and they’ve got something for everyone. My wife loves the mochi and I love the passion fruit boba. The woman who runs it, I’m assuming she owns it as well, is so nice and makes it a great experience every time. We’ve already been back and will continue to visit often.

This place is great! After having it in Taiwan and China, it is the best you’ll get here in Provo. I highly recommend it. Get the ginger warrior: taro ice, mango topping, and ginger sauce.

Not quite as authentic as the real-deal, and run by a guy who’s never been to taiwan, just discovered the product online. Not a bad frozen treat though! The toppings are limited to popping boba unfortunately, nothing else.

So according to the Unilocal listing we were there during the store’s open hours and yet when me and my friend and her niece walk up to it, super excited to try this shave ice, it’s closed! So I double check the hours on Unilocal and we were there over an hour past their afternoon opening time. So instead we ended up going to waffle love right next door and watched a lady drive by and make the same mistake we did. Overall it was super disappointing but at least waffle love is good!

Where has shaved snow been all my life. In other states it seems. Glad to see this finally making to Utah. Best thing about this place are the number of items for each of the three choices you make when ordering shaved snow: snow flavor, syrup flavor and toppings. They have the more popular fruit flavors(great if your a first timer) to the more exotic flavors. The worker takes great pride in piling the snow just right and is really friendly. Only thing keeping it from a five star is the texture of the snow could be better like the other snow place in SLC.

This place is pretty close to what you would get in Taiwan. It’s shaved snow, which is legions beyond shaved ice. He has some good flavor combinations, and is really friendly. This is the closest thing to the real deal I’ve been able to find since being back from Taiwan. Two things here disappoint me, which is why I’m giving 4⁄5 and not 5⁄5. First, and more insignificant, is that he adds small flavored boba’s that you would never find in Taiwan. I can live with that one, and get over it pretty quickly. I get it, his target clientele are Americans who like sugary and different flavored foods. Not too big a deal. However, the one that I really wished he had had, was fresh fruit. That was a key part of this dessert, in my opinion. Typically it should be served with either some fresh mango, or honeydew, or watermelon, or strawberries, or cantaloupe, or a combination of those. The lack of fresh fruit is why I have to knock it down a star. Other than that, it was pretty good! Good quality, he doesn’t skimp, and he’s a pretty down to earth guy. Whenever I’m in the Provo area I’ll stop by and get some!

It is good enough for Provo Utah! It is a little shack by the Waffle Love so you might have trouble finding parking lots. This shaved snow have more flavor choices than others. Since health department is very strict about fresh toppings for little shacks, you can only choose different flavors of syrup and popping bobas. I have tried green tea, strawberry, taro, and lychee. Taro is most favorited among us. Owner is very friendly and love to discuss his new ideas with us. His shave snow machine is cheaper than others so the textual of shaved snow, the creaminess, and the flavor are not as nice as other snow that i tired. But it is only $ 4! Sadly it is far from where I live. We will make a trip once in a while. Closed from Oct 2014 to April 2015.

This is a Utah 4 star for me. They advertise it as shaved ice, but it’s comparable to shaved snow, so I’d say that’s an added unique factor to this dessert shack in Utah. I’d definitely come back due to its uniqueness, great price, and good service; although, the distance may reduce my frequency. I apologize in advance for my lack of photos for this place(that will change) – I was so excited to have shaved snow again that I delved in and didn’t even remember photos until my drive home. :/ I ordered half original sweet milk and half taro ice with lychee popping boba(1 free topping) and condensed milk(free). Lychee popping boba is lychee popping boba, which is yummy. Taste-wise, snow was bland. The taro seemed diluted and the sweet milk had distracting texture from the mix of condensed milk that melted everything. The snow was a bit more like an ice hybrid because of the lack of fine creamy texture, instead it felt more like little crisps of ice here and there. Because they do advertise the dessert as shaved ice, I won’t hold it against them. The condense milk that gets added immediately flattens the snow/ice and begins melting it. The owner admits that the icy texture is due to the freezing process which I can feel for him. It takes them 48 hours to properly freeze the ingredients. To drop that time to 8 hours, they would need to purchase machines worth thousands of dollars. It’s difficult to invest so much money into a shack, especially when they are only selling $ 4 per bowl of shaved ice/snow. With its unique aspect in Utah and lack of competition, I can see it going very far if more people knew about this shindig. It’s such a huge thing in Cali, so I’m happy to see it here now too! It’s a dinky one-window shack with a really friendly one-person unit going on. The cashier also makes the shaved snow and serves it. Because of the large group we had, he took our order and made our snow prior to us paying(I’m not sure if that’s normal). I do have a health concern about handling money and then making snow… whether there’s effective hand-washing in between – I’m sure there is, but just had to get that thought out. The other thing is, I’d imagine it to take a while if this place really got popular and had to order and make for a long line of individuals, especially since ordering and delivery are through the same window. Tip 1: You can ask for half half snow, in case you wanted to try two flavors. Then again, you might as well order two snows(when else will you come back?!)! :P Tip 2: For $ 4, you get a bowl of ice, one free topping, and one free syrup(condense milk is already free, so you can add an extra syrup on top of that). Tip 3: They are closed for winter starting October 31, 2014 and reopening is TBD!

This is some crazy stuff. So, all my life I have felt like snow cones are extremely over-rated. You know, the snow shack type stuff, the little huts at the ball parks that pop up every summer. Gross, like if you’re gonna eat sugar and artificial colors and basically, stuff you shouldn’t eat all that often, make it tasty. Well, here you have ice that feels like, well, not at all like ice. I mean, it’s cold, and it can produce brain freeze, but it is smoooooth, and creamy and the polar opposite(pun intended) of a snow cone. Not sure how those tiny waisted Taiwanese folks can eat this stuff and not end up looking like portly Americans, but dang, they must either have self control(something I am not famous for) or they have a metabolism that I would pay good money for. Regardless, this icy treat is stupidly good, insanely yummy and highly addictive, beware. Thank goodness I live an hour away or I would be broke, fat or both! But, oh how wonderfully happy and satisfied would be on the ride?!

Hells yeah. You have to try the texture of this shave ice… it’s unlike any cold treat you’ve ever had before. Don’t be lame and get strawberry or mango or whatever. We had sweet crème ice, lychee boba, and ginger syrup… already planning our next trip back!
