This was the best decision in coming to Big Island this trip! First of all, as a local to Oahu I was expecting good snorkeling on the big island but I’d say this was more of an experience. It all had to do with the instructor Evan. He knew the area inside and out and scoped out the best spot for the weather, which was perfect. He took us to a coral reef shelf so there was a good mix of coral tunnels and caves, different sea life and beautiful coral. He gave us sea life lessons of the sea urchins, moray eel, pencil coral, and the dreadful carnivorous seastar, the crown of thorns, that eats the coral. As a biology major with a marine biology focus, this was so fun. Although I have to admit one of my favorite part was the photos! He has experience as a professional surfing photographer and has the diving skills to capture the amazing colors of the coral which is usually dulled by the depth. There was a funny moment when my friend and I clumsily collided into each other after following a sea turtle but somehow he captured the moment to be pretty graceful. LoL. The photos help to relieve the experience and I’m happy to recommend Hawaii Surf and Kayak to friends and family.

I was very apprehensive and nervous to go snorkeling, but Evan and Larry put my mind at ease and helped me feel comfortable and safe! I had an amazing time, we saw lots of fish, sea turtles, dolphins and whales in the distance. Best part of my visit to the Big Island! I will definitely be going again on my next visit and will bring my 9 year old son as well. This is a do not miss part of your big island adventure! Don’t miss out on this fun, educational and exciting experience!
