I needed a new bass guitar amp. Mine was just too big and bulky for daily use, and I wanted to trade in for newer and smaller. I walk in and I talk to the guy in charge, and tell him what Im interested in. He goes to the back and brings out a nice little amp for me to try out. Since the owner was looking for a larger combo bass amp for one of the practice spaces, we make it an even trade, even though my amp was in poorer condition. Simple, no nonsense, honest business, and I got exactly what I needed.

Our son has been at Shamrock for over six months learning how to play drums, and we wanted to share that our experience with Scott and his business has been amazing. His teachers and staff are some of the best people that you will ever meet when looking for a music teacher or an instrument, and I wholeheartedly recommend them for anything related to the music business. Thank you, Scott, for providing such a valuable service and business in Western Loudoun. Go see them, you won’t regret it!

The Shamrock Music Shoppe is an authorized dealer for Gretsch instruments and an exclusive local dealer for Takamine guitars. They also offer rentals and consignment services where they can help you sell an instrument that you don’t want anymore. Besides a selection of strings, they also offer music lessons for all types of instruments(guitar, drums, piano, keyboard, cello, upright bass, fiddle, violin, ukulele, viola, mandolin, banjo, bagpipes, sax, the flute, and even voice lessons!). They halso have cool events, such as offerings in live music and pizza/ice cream, and even a ‘Sham-rock Camp,’ where you can have the ultimate experience in playing in your own rock band. Neat little store to check out when you’re in the Purcellville area: D +authorized dealer for Gretsch/Takamine guitars +music lessons +live music events +‘rock band’ camp

How much do I like Shamrock Music Shoppe? Enough to drive a hour-and-a-half round trip when there are no fewer than five other music shops in a closer radius to our home. I found out about Shamrock when attending a concert at the nearby Catoctin Creek Distillery by singer-songwriter Andrew McKnight. I brought a guitar that I wanted McKnight to take a look at, and he recommended taking it across the street to Shamrock for a repair estimate. As soon as I walked in I was greeted and felt welcomed by the family atmosphere.(And it is indeed family-owned, not a cookie-cutter chain.) The owner spent about 15 minutes with me, opened up the electric guitar, and said that they’d have to send it out because it needed some parts that weren’t in stock. They later ended up consigning the guitar and sold it for me. I have since brought other instruments there for inspection and repair. Some places will immediately try to upsell you when you bring in an instrument of your own. But not Shamrock. I am an eBay seller and I want the value-added of being able to say an instrument has been«Professionally serviced and inspected» before I list it for sale. And Shamrock Music Shoppe fits this bill to a T.

My 6 year old daughter is taking guitar lessons from Shelby. She loves it. Shelby is great with my daughter. We really love the store and the staff. Addy is playing a song already and she is learning so much with every lesson.

Shamrock Music Shoppe is a fairly new addition to Purcellville, but it’s come to enjoy a prominent place in the downtown retail scene in a short time. Part of the reason, I think, is that there’s no other place to buy basic music supplies or connect with musically minded people out in western Loudoun(closest is Leesburg for Melodee Music). The other part is that Scott Kinney, the proprietor, is genuinely passionate about music and passionate about building community. The store offers classes and small shows in addition to merchandise, and it’s often mentioned whenever any news about Purcellville retail hits the local weekly papers. It also doesn’t hurt that Kinney is the brother of author Jeff Kinney, writer of the«Diary of a Wimpy Kid» series, and that lends a certain celebrity sheen to the place. In a world filled with Guitar Centers, it’s really nice to see a local store with a local proprietor take root in the community. For that alone, I give the place serious props. As a store, though, how is it? The good: Shamrock covers a lot of musical needs, from recording to instrument rentals to instruction. For that location, that seems like a good idea. Loudoun County is filled with moms and dads with aspiring musician kids, and it’s a convenient place to drop off your kid for a lesson or pick up some reeds for the wind instrument. It also offers a bunch of instruments for sale, many on consignment, along with some made by local luthiers. The not-so-good: As someone who really appreciates guitars and musical gear, I find the inventory to be seriously lacking. A sizeable percentage of the guitars for sale are cheap overseas knockoffs — and there’s not much in the way of pedals or amps that’s beyond the cheap beginner range. So, overall, great to have a local music store, and the owner’s passion is wonderful. Just need to wow me a little more so when i come in I see an instrument I might want to take home.
