Third visit here, this time for dinner, and we just enjoyed a fine dinner that included the night’s special of a pork cannoli along with a salad of micro greens, burrata, and strawberries, and an appetizer of falafel crab fritters. Everything was delicious, the service was smooth, and the entire night enjoyable. Tip of the hat to chef Justin and team!

This place is incredible. We have been for lunch and dinner since it opened and we are obesssed. We will be moving out to that area and cant wait to make it our new favorite place to go. The food is unbelievable. We tried everything from the mix grill with duck sausage and quail to the burger and duck fat fries. Dessert and drink menu is equally as amazing. The service is also wonderful. Nice and attentive. Couldnt ask for more. This will be a Purcellville gem. Dont miss it.

Absolutely fantastic. Friendly staff and the food is PHENOMENAL! My only complaint would be that the girl who served us didn’t seem to know too much about wine. If you are going to have wine in the name of your establishment, make sure all of your staff are sufficiently knowledgeable! They are still very new though, and I know they will only improve. I am excited to spend some time on that back patio!

I had such high hopes for this place. I find the menu VERY limited and some of the portions(even for the shared portions) are small. We had the Flatbread and I really thought they’d be bringing the other half in a bit. On our 2nd visit, for brunch, 3 of us had the cheeseburger. It was very good. However, none of us could detect the difference between the«duck fries», which is deep fried in duck fat & regular fries. When my husband was out of town, I thought I’d go to the pub section and have a burger again. It was the first time in the pub & while very nicely decorated(as is the whole place), I did not find it «pub like». And it was empty, except for a few at the bar. Additionally, the menu is the same as upstairs! Really. Be a little different & make me want to go to downstairs to the pub. In fact when I was there, two women looked in & then went upstairs. Apparently, they didn’t have any room upstairs, so the women came back. That’s when I pegged the pub would be over flow for upstairs. Haven’t been back since and unless the menus change, don’t think we will be. Too bad cause we really wanted to make this place a local regular. I think it’s probably a good place for the wine BAR, as it always seems to be busy. As a suggestion to the owners, why not put a sign at entrance to your hours. Not everyone thinks to check the Internet or carries a phone. There were some cars in parking lot, so we pulled in. Walked in & no one was there. We were calling out hello but nothing. We finally walked down to the kitchen, when we were told they were closed for lunch but will open for dinner.

My husband and I are THRILLED to have found our«place.» The staff is incredibly thoughtful, well-versed in the menu, and considerate(we’ve had a toddler with us each time, and they’ve brought special food and drinks out for her on the house, without a word from us). Oh, and perhaps more importantly, every menu item we’ve tried has been delicious. I had the chef’s special, a gorgeous local beef and lobster sushi roll(?!)) this evening with a great rosé and momentarily forgot I was in Purcellville! We also highly recommend the crab falafel fritters(those chunks of crab, though!). If you like more more casual fare, the pub is a perfect fit at a lower price point, and the drinks are well mixed(although I’d love to see more variety or specials on the cocktail list?). Such a great alternative to the staid and tired same ol’, same ol’(*cough* rhymes with Bagnolias *cough*). We’ve been almost every weekend since our first time, and will continue, especially if they open the sushi bar /sushi night the owner Rich mentioned might be in the works. Eat fresh, eat West End local, friends!

Stopped in here a few weeks ago. Great place and friendly staff. The restaurant is located in an old house and they even told me it is haunted. The pimento cheese appetizer was a great choice to start with, for dinner I just had a burger here, but it was good. They had a nice bar downstairs and even some outside seating when the weather is nice. This is a great place to go after visiting a few local wineries if you are in the area.

We had a mixed experience here today. Started off strong with attentive service, great ambiance– we were outside on the patio. We ordered cocktails and items from the«Tide me Over» and shared plates menus. The cocktails and food were superb! Though once we were finished, we waited a very long time for anyone to return. Other waiters(including ours), and someone who looked to be an owner/manager checked on other tables, but not ours. By the time our waiter came back, we were out of drinks, our empty plates had been sitting awhile, and we were even out of water. We had planned to order a bottle of wine and stay awhile, but decided to leave instead. Both my husband and I worked as waitstaff when we were young, so we really appreciate the little things that add up to good service.(Like, «sorry for the wait») We’ll go back, but not for awhile.

Second visit and I’m a huge fan! Amazing selection of wine, the atmosphere is perfect, chic and inviting, perfect for a girl’s night or a date with my husband! Duck fat fries = Delicious! Avoid the lobster risotto, I like green but this was way earthy and no one at our table of 7 liked it. Everything was delicious! Flatbread, fritters, kale salad, all great! A great escape with foodie food at the end of a small town! Perfect!

DONTEVERGOHERE — Went for lunch today… we waited 20 minutes for anyone to take our drink order, the appetizers took 40 minutes to come after that… service was rude and absolutely embarrassing… I came to Purcellville from Japan to visit my boyfriends family and we wanted to have a nice lunch… they never brought the entrees and told us they were being«plated»…over 1 hour later we decided to go inside and ask for them to box up the food and gave them our credit card because we couldn’t waste anymore time here. They only brought one entrée and didn’t even have our three other entrees! The owner tried to smooth things over, apologized and gave us some$ 10 gift cards… We left without our food, hungry and upset. I don’t know how this restaurant stays in business… I recommend you don’t waste your time or money here.

Stopped in for bubbles and was wowed by the new Grilled Trumpet Mushrooms with Sambuca milk on the menu. Get in your car and go there now! Way to go Chef Justin, you hit the ball out of the culinary park every time!

This review is for the pub downstairs. Overall, it was a nice experience. We arrived around 7 pm on a Saturday night and were lucky to grab the last table for four. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating with our 3-ish year old. Our starters were amazing — we had the pork steamed buns, duck fat fries and bacon caramel chips. The portions were very small. For a table of four adults and one child(who loved the fries and chips), we only had enough for a small taste of each. Usually, when we go to small plates-style restaurants, our server will ask if we want to increase the number of(for example) steamed buns to the number in our party. No one asked us, and we only had two buns to split among everyone. We would have ordered more buns if we knew that only two came in an order. All of the adults in my party were looking forward to the duck tacos. Our server offered us several options(off menu) for our daughter, and she went with the house pasta. When we told them she was hoping for mac and cheese, they quickly offered to add it. She loved it! Unfortunately for the adults, the duck in the tacos was so incredibly salty that it was impossible to taste anything else in the taco. I’m not particularly sensitive to salt — probably the opposite — and it was burning my mouth. The beet salsa *looked* amazing, and tasted great when I tried it on its own, but all I could taste was a mouthful of salt when taking a bite of everything together. We are huge fans of farm-to-table restaurants and were really looking forward to our dinner(which celebrated two birthdays), but everyone left feeling let down by the salty duck. The bacon chips were the highlight of our meal. The service was otherwise excellent, despite only two servers covering all of the tables and the bar. There were several bussers/runners to help offset, but we occasionally had a bit of a wait, especially towards the end of our dinner(730−8ish). Now that our curiosity has been sated, we probably won’t be choosing to go back in the near future.

So refreshing to find such wonderful food in this part of Northern VA. The roast olives and steak frites are to die for.

Asparagus mushroom soup was really good. The cocktails were tasty. The pink one for two was my favorite. The fried chicken sandwich my friend loved. The piece of meat in my sandwich was full of fat and grissel.

This place is ridiculously cool! I went downstairs, to the pub, which is a bit small, but not lacking in style or warmth. Despite the crowd, I found a comfortable seat and was able to talk comfortably with my wife. The beer list was good(I hope to see a few more local options, over time!), and they had a nice collection of spirits. We just had a couple of shared dishes, the chips and the fries: both were stupidly delicious. My wife was absolutely gushing. We had a great time, the staff was attentive. I’m a huge fan and will be back. Can’t wait to try the wine bar.

We’ve been excited to try West End since we heard about the renovations on this beautiful 1915 home about a year ago. I remember eating here when it was Candelora’s years ago. Understanding that the restaurant has only been open a few weeks and might not yet be perfect, we visited West End for an early Saturday dinner and arrived about 5 pm. We were promptly seated at a table for four, even though there were two in our party. The server«explained» the menu to us — I’m not sure why this has become the standard for new restaurants to have menus that require explanation — but it’s a little annoying. Unfortunately my wife’s first several wine and beer choices were not available, which the server did not inform us of ahead of time. This left one draft beer choice, a porter. I think they should have more options in this regard. In terms of ambiance, the dining room and setting are gorgeous, but the staff was having some trouble getting the lighting right. There were three separate incidents of drastic and sudden dimming of the lights, and we easily overheard the staff conversing about the dimmers and the need to call an electrician. We decided to start with something off the«sharing» part of the menu, and ordered the Chef’s charcuterie plate. It consisted of four slices of duck sausage with mustard(delicious), about a silver-dolllar size piece of pork rillettes with grapes(also delicious), and a little pile of prosciutto(probably store bought). The charcuterie portion was too small for $ 12. We both ordered steak frites as our entrée. The sauce on steak frites was delicious, but soupy, and made a big mess on the plate… and it mixed with creamed spinach in an unappetizing way. However the steak was fabulous, perfectly cooked, and the duck fat fries were to die for, and I’d return just for those! I’m not sure the cut of the steak(my guess would be hanger steak) but the $ 29 price is high for this area — you can get a small filet mignon for that price around here. For dessert we ordered the cast iron sweet potato pie. It was very tasty, and not too sweet. However the graham cracker crust was very dark brown, perhaps black(hard to tell in the low light) and may have been burnt. I also ordered a Manhattan, up, with Maker’s Mark. The drink seemed somewhat small, which didn’t bother me too much, until I got the bill and saw that I was charged $ 2 extra to get it ‘up’. I think this is a bad practice and should be discontinued, as it should have been disclosed to me when I ordered the drink. Service was friendly, prompt, and attentive, but could be more knowledgeable. There was plenty of parking at 5, but not enough at 6:30 as we were leaving. The tables were beautiful, made by a local company called Local Wood; but there are some places where the rustic surface isn’t level enough for a drink to sit on, and also our table wobbled. I think we will be back, and definitely want to check out the downstairs pub. In all, the food and ambiance were very good, but needs refinement.

I’m going to wait for a second or third visit for a full review, but here’s my quick $.02. It’s a very nice renovation of a classic Purcellville dining location. The décor is nice, noise level in the dining room is tolerable, and it was generally a comfortable dining experience. We only had entrees and dessert, skipping any of the small plates. The fish stew was more properly described as fish pasta, and it seemed to have some cheese component to it, which is a major no-no in my book. Fish and cheese are an inappropriate combination in every possible way(except for a Filet-O-Fish). Dessert was essentially deconstructed apple pie, which was tasty but looked a mess on the plate. Overall, the service was spotty. Very attentive at first, but it tailed off as the dining room filled up. Water glasses went unfilled sometimes, etc. This is completely understandable to some degree for a restaurant that has only been open a couple of weeks, but if the slow-ish service continues, it’ll be a problem. I’m looking forward to going back and writing a proper review. In the meantime, visit, by all means. But don’t expect a highly polished experience just yet. It’s got great potential, but both the kitchen and front of house could step it up just a bit.

Fantastic. Just what our sleepy little town needs — thoughtfully crafted local food, excellent craft beer selection and wines that are hand-picked by a sommelier. Sounds a bit pretentious, yes? Luckily it’s not. West End has several small and intimate dining rooms in the gorgeous and lovingly-restored old house. Fun pub in the basement and a few extra dining rooms upstairs for overflow dining, wine tasting nights or private parties. All the food we had was excellent, and the service was both smooth and attentive. Only open less than 48 hours when we went for lunch service, I was expecting kinks(either with the food or service) but was pleasantly surprised. * Duck fat fries — good, but can be a bit heavy if you’re not into this sort of thing. Luckily it’s winter and obviously I’m trying to bulk up to stay warm: D * Chicken bahn mi — maybe the weakest dish of the lot, but still good. Word of warning there is chicken liver mousse on it so if you’re not into organ meats or a more adventurous eater you may want to avoid. * House burger — excellent, and huge. Probably the best value of the meal as it came with a side of the duck fat fries which are $ 6 if you order them by themselves off the sharing menu. * Brisket sloppy joe — yum. Low n’ slow smoky brisket topped with apple fennel slaw on a buttered roll. Really tasty but word of caution: not for date night ladies, if you’re looking to keep your face/blouse clean. This one’s a real messy boy. I could do without the meals being served on tiny cutting boards though. awesome concept but it ended up being like Baby Huey trying to sip tea out of a dainty bone china cup. Looking forward to trying everything else on the menu. it’s eclectic but down home southern at the same time and I love that. Croque monsieur with house-made pimento cheese and prosciutto? Yes pleaseeee. The owner, Brenda, was also super sweet and took the time to give us a tour of each level of the house. Definitely worth a trip out if you’re on the fence about trying it — we’ll be regulars at the basement pub for sure.
