We came here for Valentine’s Day, on top of that our wedding anniversary, my husband made the reservation for 3:15pm. We were seated quickly and the place wasn’t that busy, which was great. We were given the special menu for Valentine’s. Looked great. We started with the Calamari, which was divine, it came with a siracha mayo. I asked the server how the duck raviolis were and she stated that the chef was up most of the night hand stuffing them, make them all by hand. On that information I order the duck ravioli and my husband ordered the rack of lamb. As we talked back and forth for a little bit. There was even a family of five across the way and the restaurant was still fairly peaceful. Then this little girl comes running through the restaurant yelling«Daddy! «and jumps into one of the managers arms, he quickly shhhh! And took her right aound the corner, a literally two minutes later a large group of parents with kids all 7 and under. It’s a child’s birthday party! I remind you this is Valentine’s Day. My husband and I wait about ten minutes for the ruckus to mellow down, but it never did, all of a sudden it was like we were in a packed restaurant. If you have ever been here you know that this place isnt very big by no means, so large crowds are going to fill this place fast. By now we had been at the restaurant for 40 minutes, with dirty plates on our table from the appetizer and two empty water glasses. The place is NOTBUSY. We haven’t seen our server in over twenty mintues. Finally we can’t take the noise anymore and my husband asked for us to be moved. The manager was willing to move us and telling us the whole time she understood and reseated around the wall in another section that was much more peaceful area. It took another 15 minutes to get our food, mind you we have been there since 3:15 and the has six table tops filled, so we have been waiting 40 mintues for two plates. The set the plates down and they looked great. I take the first bite of my ravioli and firm pasta with juicy duck filling and I look at my husband and his face isn’t happy. He takes another bite and still no smile. He says take a bite of this and it was ice cold lamb on ice cold beans. I take another bite of my raviolis and the pasta isn’t cooked. We both stop eating and wait for our server to come back and check on us, pretty standard is about 5 to 10 minutes in most places. AGAINTHEYARENOTBUSY! Finally my husband gets up and asked for the manager again. She comes over to the table and we explained everything, she said she was sorry and would have them warm it back up, um hello, we are paying 40 bucks for that plate, no we don’t want to have it warmed back up. We told her no we don’t even want to eat anymore, we would just like the drinks that we ordered to appear with our meal, that hadn’t showed up yet. AGAINTHEYARENOTBUSY. So finally our server shows up and she said wow your done already! We explained it all again, and she asked if we would like desert? Really?!? The manager shows back up and said I had your food bagged up and I am giving you a gift card of $ 25 for your next visit. Awesome now we can eat our cold food at home with our loud kids. Which is why we went out to begin with on Valentine’s Day and our 14YEARANNIVERSARY! Our bill was $ 40. Two drinks and one appetizer and a horrible server and hungry bellies. Now my husband and I have no problem waiting an hour for good food but we will not be happy with subpar food and service, our bill should have been $ 0. Why on earth on Valentine’s Day would you allow a child’s birthday party, let alone seat people that have specifically told it was an anniversary as well. Big thumbs down, to bad because we like little places to give our money to.

Awesome spot the venue the food and service were spot on. Out of a party of ten, we only had one order issue and it was resolved perfectly. From the appetizers(Manila clams, calamari) to the main course(wagyu steak) this spot is Tops! Now to try their bar for a happy hour

They have made so many fantastic changes to this place it’s unbelievable, this is not the place that I went to a few years back… This place is on my top five for favorite date nights now, I’m so glad that I gave it another chance. The décor, and atmosphere are fantastic. The staff is top notch, very attentive, and friendly. The food was absolutely the best MYFAVORITE place to eat in Puyallup, even their fries were amazing. I’m in love with this place, so are a lot of other people because it’s always crazy busy, so call for a reservation…

I have since been back to HG Bistro several times and it’s been great each time. I was there on 12⁄22 with a large party for a birthday and even though one entrée was really late we all had a great time. We’ll definitely be back. And please bring back the dark chili prawns!!!

Been coming here for a few years now… Owner is always walking around making sure the customers are enjoying their food. BESTHAPPYHOUR! Almost everything is discounted! The French dip is to die for. But they keep changing the recipe of the au jus and it seems like the sandwich is made differently each time. Why change something that’s not broken. Or whatever that saying is haha very special menu items for a low price. Love the décor here and the atmosphere!

Tonight was such a bummer. We went in for Christmas Eve dinner and I was expecting amazing food. I mean, HG is normally phenomenal. There was some weird things that happened with our service but I am a server myself so I wouldn’t dare complain or say who it was. But, it was weird. I think my grandma was the only one at that table who thought her food was great and with flavor. Our food was tasteless and overcooked. Even my favorite appetizer didn’t taste good. I’m hoping it was an off night because we go there for our date nights all the way from Bellevue. This meal definitely made me rethink coming back any time soon though.

HG Bistro is my favorite spot in Puyallup. Wonderful food, good wine and good atmosphere. A nice change from chain restaurants or fast food. I would recommend trying everything on the menu here.

This food here is amazing and great happy hour deals. The service is just painfully slow. Last time I was there, there was lipstick on my glass… Pretty gross. When I asked for a new glass, the waitress didn’t seem concerned or apologetic about it at all, which was very odd. She almost seemed annoyed that I was asking. Also, we waited for about 15 minutes for her to come back to pick up payment after leaving the check. I had to go up to the bar to pay… Frustrating.

Monday happens to be Happy Hour all day, though not all menu items are discounted, and some items may be out, so be sure to ask! The togarashi ahi tuna appetizer looked tasty on Unilocal, but unfortunately they were out of it by 7pm, instead we ordered the calamari steak frites, which were a little too salty for me but still tasty with the dipping sauce. The squid texture was solid and thankfully not rubbery. Free sourdough bread with oil and vinegar. They have a pretty good wine selection but only a few have HH discount, and I got the last glass of Malbec. Entrees: HG Philly sandwich came with salty seasoned fries that had a wasabi dressing — interesting. I didn’t try the sandwich, but she said it was good. The Chicken Risotto was creamy and the sauce wasn’t too rich, and with a few peas, small pea-sized bits of squash. For $ 6 add a sliced chicken breast. Dessert: Bistro 151 S’more was the highlight of the meal, hands down. Delicious. I loved the pastry stuffed with chocolate cake and melted marshmallow — outside a little crispy, inside soft and moist. Off to the side are graham cracker crumbs, chocolate sauce, and vanilla ice cream. Our attentive server came by frequently enough to take our order, fill water, and see how we were doing. Atmosphere is casual, not too fancy and works for a date night. If I’m ever in the area again, I’d gladly stop by as there were several choices that I wanted to try. I’d like to try more items and come another night before giving 5 stars.

Oh… My… God… I have never had food so good and at reasonable prices too! Had the gorgonzola steak salad and BF had the crab cake, steak and scalloped potatoes. The steak… was perfect melt in your mouth goodness. I tried BF’s crab cake and potatoes and those were fabulous. Oh forgot we had crab rolls… So yummy. And the desserts!!! Oh gosh the mousse was heavenly and the cheesecake was to die for. We are definitely coming back as often as we can!

Best food in Puyallup, hands down. Would be here much more often if happy hour was offered in the dining room as well. Happy Hour 2:30−6&10-close Great opportunity to sample the appetizers.

This is a new favorite spot to eat. The best day to go is on a Sunday or Monday when their menu is discounted but on any other day the prices are still reasonable and affordable for a nice(and romantic) dinner. I have been here a few times already and recommend my friends to check it out.

Absolutely delicious! This was a good find thanks to Unilocal! I was sitting in my hotel room wondering what to eat. You see, I’m vegan and I was with a bunch of people who aren’t so eating can be a little challenging. Usually I am having to customize something, which is kinda annoying. I ordered the Moroccan Quinoa, which was out of this world. I love quinoa to begin with but this had such a nice flavor to it. I’m not sure which spices they use, but they’re scrumptious. The other members in my party ordered steaks and sliders. It all looked pretty tasty and they said it was delicious. Definitely recommend this place if you’re ever in the Puyallup area.

I’ve passed this restaurant so many times since I live across the street. I chose to go for happy hour today to try it out. And I’m glad I did! I got the HG phily and mom got California wrap. The sandwich had wagu, cheese, some veggies and awesome sauce. The beef was hard and dry like bacon but I guess it’s supposed to be like that? Idk I’m Japanese but usually we don’t eat a lot of sandwiches. The wrap was actually red but the chicken, cheese and veggie filling was nice and tasted healthy. The sides that comes with both were awesome. The sandwich came with sweet potato fries with some awesome sauce on the side and that fills you up. Mom had tomato bisque soup or smth and although you have to pay extra $ 1.50, happy hour prices are already super low so it’s decent value. The soup was creamy and deep. And yeah, the smores desert was demanding attention so we got it lol. We were already kinda full so I don’t think we appreciated as much as the others said. But the little pastry which had pieces of chocolate cake and marshmallow were sweet and I loved it. On top of that, there was a huge scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream, crushed graham crackers and chocolate sauce all over the cedar plank. It took a long time to finish but it was good. Not sure how I should feel about the desert costing nearly as much as my sandwich though. The service was kind, and you might have to be over 21 even for happy hour because they asked us. The server was patient and nice as well. The whole place looked very welcoming. The dinner area looked slightly more romantic and grand but everything looked all good. The only problem was the music(they had too many Maroon 5 songs) and the stencils looked a bit unpolished. I tried to clean with the napkin but realized I didn’t really need them for the sandwich and fries. Oh I forgot to check if the spoon and fork that came with desert looked clean, but oh well. Overall, the happy hour deal is something to check out. I’ll probably go there every month or so to check out more burgers.

Divine. Puyallup you’re amazing me with your restaurants! Perfect time for a review of this restaurant especially with US open attendees. This bistro is warm and welcoming on the outside and in. Parking is convenient. Also, While waiting upon seating, you will notice a lot of space between tables, so you’re not intruding in another’s dinner. It’s a nice added feature of the restaurant. Sunday and Monday is all day happy hour, so that gives you $ 3 off most of the dishes. It’s hard not to want to get one of each on this restaurant’s menu. We settled for the home made tortilla taco with wagyu beef, surf and turf plate, a chicken wrap, and fries. Get the taco, it is filled to the brim with fixings and juicy pieces of meat. Surf and turf plate: a glorious treasure with dungeness egg roll, coconut prawns, and filet steak. What Chicken wrap? The fries accompanying the wrap was the winner in this one! Delicious. Restaurant is not too fancy and not too casual. So it’s perfect for ladies night, date night, a snack after golf. Etc.

I came in recently for lunch to try a special on their 3.00 mac n cheese and ended up eating lunch. The mac n cheese was delicious and a good portion too, I’m a fan completely! I ordered the ahi salad and I have to say it’s one of the best salads ice ever had in my entire life! I was completely blown away. Generous ahi portions and the whole salad is a wonderland. I did have the flourless chocolate cake for dessert with salted caramel and that too was fantastic and homemade by them! All in all the best lunch I’ve had since I can remember and that’s a long time!

I NEVER thought that I’d be updating my review for HG Bistro — I hadn’t planned on going back — Much less I NEVER thought I’d be giving them an updated FIVESTAR review!!! I have never had such a good experience after having such a negative experience and am very happy to change my review. After my last message, I got a very nice email from Tim, the owner, asking me to come back and give them a try. He explained some things and we decided to give it a go. I’m SOOOO happy I did.(We’ve actually been there an additional time because we liked it so much)! :) First of all, I’ll start with the waitress — Lisa was AMAZING. She knew that we didn’t have a pleasant first experience and she was great, attentive, and everything the waitress from the first visit wasn’t. The second time I went(by myself as the boyfriend was out of town on a family emergency), she was my waitress again, remembered me, remembered my order, and was just as great as the first time around. I’d go back just to see her again! Now…The food. It was AMAZING! I was very pleasantly surprised. Ahi Tuna Appetizer — Cooked to perfection, fresh, and DELISCIOUS. I liked it so much I also ordered it the second time around. Mac and Cheese — It was pretty good, but the boyfriend makes a homemade six-cheese mac and cheese so I like his best. :) Sliders and Fries — Soooooooooo good. The pretzel bun really made the burger and it was amazing.(I liked this so much that I also got this the second time around). The fries had sauce on them, but for the life of me I can’t remember what kind. They were also really good. Rueben — It’s important to note(as Lisa explained to us), this is NOT a Rueben. It’s their TAKE on a Rueben. I didn’t care for it as much because I prefer actual Rueben’s, but the boyfriend really liked it and I didn’t think it was bad — I just prefer other things. :) Smores Dessert with Salted Caramel Ice Cream — Very good and got set ONFIRE for show so that was pretty cool. The Salted Caramel Ice Cream was AWESOME(I also got this on the trip by myself). The second trip there, I had the Ahi Tuna, Sliders and Fries, but this time I had a «Cookies and Cream» dessert with Salted Caramel Ice cream. VERY good. Long story short — I’m SUPER happy that I gave them another chance and that Tim reached out to me. If you have gone for breakfast and were disappointed, give them another chance. We are both REALLY looking forward to going back!
