I look forward to updating my review of this playground after it undergoes a planned, million dollar renovation. That’s supposed to break ground either this year(2015) or next year. But for now, it’s dismal: dirty, dangerous(no separation between toddler and big kid areas), an ugly useless pool, no grass and outdated equipment. Tall, shady trees are about the only thing it’s got going for it right now. There are active, great community leaders making things happen here however and so I believe that once that’s all finished, this will be a more attractive neighborhood to raise kids in. So until then… here’s to hoping.

Pool is a blessing for the kids in the area. Nothing fancy just a basic pool with great park staff. Sometimes some big kids make it very difficult for little ones to have fun, but then they come out and play on the jungle gym and wish that when they return some other day, rowdy kids have gone. They should not allow or some how control the influx of teenage kids in the park, they swear and make out in front of the little kids. I heard the park got a huge grant and they will be renovating the park this year. It brings a huge smile on the kids and parents faces.

Don’t go to the pool, unless you are on fire and have no other options. Or if you have kids I suppose. I packed up and walked to the pool with plans for poolside reading, but there is no poolside. It is just a cage-like structure with a pool, and a ridiculously long line of kids waiting to get in(warm day in June). There is nowhere for adults to hang out or watch their kids. However, if your kids have patience and no other options, this is for you.

For Astoria, with its lack of parks, this playground/park is a nice spot with shade and playground equipment. However, there is barely any grass. It’s all concrete and a fenced off pool, which is sort of foreboding looking. Also, there are occasionally kids in this park playing with fake funs and batting a ball around dangerously, so be on the look out.
