I usually walk through this park with the other commuters when I come home from work, and while going to and from the subway during the weekends. It’s a decent park. There is a children’s playground with swings and an area with sprinklers for the summer. Handball and basketball courts run along the 31st St./Hoyt Ave. periphery. In the center there is a large concrete area where, depending on the weather, people play roller hockey, soccer, American football, and sometimes baseball. On the negative side, it is along major streets, including the entrance to the Triboro/RFK Bridge, and you’ll have to deal with the noise of traffic and the N train as it passes by. If you are looking for a nice quiet place to meditate, this is not the place to go. Granted, people don’t come here for the quiet. You mostly have parents from nearby apartments with their children or people meeting up with friends to play various sports.

This is a great playground, only draw back is that it’s close to 2 big main streets. It’s a great place for photography when it snows and a great place to play basketball during the summer. If you go very early in the morning, you can even throw the ball around with your dog in the fenced basketball courts. A great way to work on recall. They do have a children’s playground and some handball courts. I don’t see any graffiti around and there isn’t too much trash lying around. All in all, a decent playground but a lot of foot traffic goes through here.
