When a bakery knowingly sells stale pastries to their customers, it’s blatantly unethical. It appeared that this bakery doesn’t clean out slow moving pastries that have been sitting on the shelf more than a week or more. I was a bit upset and disappointed when I bit into one shaped like a triangle of the six pastries brought today. It was not only dried out and the cream crumbly on the top, it also had a fridge smell to it. Yuck! More to my disappoint, the rest were the same. If I didn’t live a good 30 minutes from this place, I’d have brought them all back. Never again.

This is a dual review of the bakery and its new café addition. As a bakery — it’s one of my favorites. The service staff are what you’d expect from a typical Chinese establishment — nice but a little curt. The baked goods are great — pineapple buns are well made, pork buns are great, and I’m a big fan of their steamed big bun and hot dog rolls. Now on to the café portion — they just opened this addition a couple months ago and serve Hong Kong-style food. I love them — I’ve been there many times and everything’s great: milk tea, the honey lemon tea, and all the food I’ve had. I’d recommend the salt pepper pork chop, soy sauce noodle, beef chow fun, and yuen yuan rice, among other things. The prices are great — I can get baked goods for under a dollar a piece, and I can get dinner for two from the café(with drinks!) for under $ 20. Do bring cash, though — they don’t take cards.

I’ve been coming to the bakery here for a couple of years now and it’s always been great. Awesome boh lo bao and cha siu bao, and I like that you can buy fresh local soy milk. Very affordable! Recently, they opened a café/Hong Kong-style restaurant, and it’s amazing. I’ve liked everything I’ve had(and I come here a couple of times a week). My favorite is the soy sauce noodle, but the wonton noodle soup is good, too, and I love the cha siu. The prices are great, too.

One of the best chinese bakeries in quincy. They keep expanding the selections and I am always surprised and delighted because now they have items that I no longer have to venture into Chinatown to get. They have fresh soybean milk here which I get each morning with the Chinese Fried Dough as well. They have other things like soups and rice noodle rolls as well, which are quite popular for the morning crowd. If it’s your first time visiting you need to try: egg tarts, roasted pork bun, the pork steam bun and the soymilk! The bubble teas are a work in progress because the pearls are too hard and the drinks are really powdery, but all the other foods are good.

There’s a café portion in the bakery now – literally just next door. Noticed it over the weekend. Looks very new and gave it a try. Ordered a chow mein dish. Portion was fairly big and the price was quite reasonable. Looking forward to trying out their other dishes and smoothies in the future.

sent someone in to pick up food so i can’t rate on service. got three things: plain bor lor bao(crunchy top), cha siu bao(roast pork), and egg tart. egg tart is goooood: flaky layered crust, smooth custard inside, very sizable too(closer to 4″ diameter!). cha siu bao… i wouldn’t say it’s the best i’ve had, but it’s decent. good amount of filling that’s not too strong or too weak, bao is soft even on the next day(without refrigeration and a 30-second reheat in the microwave with or without a damp towel). bor lor bao… i’ve had crunchier and sweeter top crust than this. this one has this almost floral scent to it… not the buttery crunchy goodness i’m used to. the bun is a little dry on the next day and after toasting; might be better when fresh. for those who drive, there are a few 30-min spots right outside and more 2-hr spots on the next couple blocks. i didn’t have much trouble finding parking during the day. in all, a nice alternative to the only other bakery i know in the south shore @ kam man plaza. with ease of parking(vs. Hancock St), i’m a fan(for now!).

i’ve had better. i agree with previous reviews about the service, bad customer service, the women talk and do not acknowledge customers. the coconut cake with green frosting was bland. although the curry beef bun was decent, they overcharged me. those two pastries cost me $ 2.20. I’m not going to complain over a few cents but they should honor their prices shown on the pastries behind the glass case. it was supposed to be $ 1.90. WATCHOUT and make sure they don’t overcharge you.

Crown Royal Bakery has the best roast pork buns and egg tarts. These are the two staples that I crave in a Hong Kong style bakery. Their milk tea is also very good. No pretentions. Service is basic, but the quality of the food is very good.

The buns are dry and flavorless. The service is lacking. Don’t waste your money here.

Long overdue review. Some things we take for granted… like a tasty bakery less than 10 mins away. They offer all the standard cantonese buns/pastries — roast pork, dinner, pineapple, egg tart, ect. Also, they offer some hot items such as steamed rice noodles, macaroni and rice congee. My faves — dinner bun and the lemon roll.

They are always a bit confused to see a «lofan» walk through the door, but I am no amateur and know exactly what I want. Service is only ok, but what I come back for is the pork buns and the pastries which are delicious and fresh. Affordable prices are a bonus too!

I am not sure why the ratings are so low. I thought I would put an inflated 5 star rating just to get the rating up where it should be which is a 3.5+. Their roast pork buns are really really really good. Their other baked goods are at minimum good. They do run out of items early so by noon, so you may be left with just the good stuff and not the excellent breads and pastries which I would put on par with anyplace in Chinatown. They do have a bunch of Chinese patrons who sit around, hanging out waiting for the start of their work shift.

Great Buns. I love the pork, coconut, and red bean baked buns. The steamed buns are great too and have half an egg inside. Also the«sausage» buns are just Chinese hot dogs. They are good but know that ahead of time. Don’t expect anyone here to be nice to you. its not that kind of place. Think of it like a diner. This is mostly a breakfast place. Also most of the staff don’t seem to speak much English so be clear and precise when ordering. If you don’t know what you want get a pork bun. They don’t follow lines. Just walk to the front and tell them what you want. I’ve gone at 11am and they’ve been all out so go early if you can. It is more like a bar than a normal bakery. I often get dozens of pork buns for office functions and people love them.

It is an early morning, no customers except me. I was standing and waiting for help more than 5 mins. The two people working over there just ignore me until I asked a question(Is it opened?). One of the workers asked me(what do I want?) and raise her voice. Sorry I was bothering you in the early morning. What a good service…

Pros: The buns and cakes are tasety. Price is cheap. Conventient location, right across the street from the Wollaston T. Cons: bad customer service, sometimes even rude, including the owner/manager herself. Once I bought two bottles of soy milk from them. I opened one bottle when I got back to my car which was parked next to their store. Apparently the soy milk has expired(smelled and tasted awful!!). I went right back to the store and requested a refund. Not only these middle-aged women didn’t appologize, they also gave me a hard time, saying there was no problems with the soy milk and refused to give me back my money. I asked them to smell the soy milk themselves. It was RIDICULOUS that after sniffing that awful smell from the soy milk, they still didn’t want to admit their fault and kept arguing with me. But I wasn’t gonna budge. After some time they eventually agreed to give me a refund. If they did not, I would have called the Division of Health Inspections, because on top of this incident, I’ve also gotten sick several times after eatting their food. At first I didn’t want to assume it was related to the food, but after gotten stomach virus several times right after eatting their buns(the only thing I ate) as breakfast in the morning, I think it’s safe for me to say their food isn’t clean. I had not gone back to this bakery for a long time, although I used to live 3 blocks away from them.

Located conveniently outside the T station. If manners are your thing, don’t come here while people are waiting for restaurant shuttle vans to work which could be anywhere between 10−11am. There might be another shift of vans, but I don’t know. It’s like going into a busy bar where you would just have to grab the attention of bartender for a drink. Their pastries are tasty and fresh. I am a big fan of their ham & egg bun as well as the hotdog bun. Sometimes, I even top it off with herbal tea that is homemade cuz I’m too lazy to make it at home.

Definitely an above-average Hong Kong-style bakery in the area, Crown Royal does the basics well. The egg tarts have a pretty good crust that’s rather flaky and buttery. Their pineapple and coconut-filled buns are both decent. The curry beef turnovers are good, with a just the right beef to puff pastry ratio. The coconut cream bun is average, but I guess I’m just not into this seemingly guilty pleasure anyway. I’ve had the milk tea a couple of times and it’s not bad, though nothing really special. I’ve managed to be here without crowds so I can’t say whether or not it’s disorderly. I guess I’ll try to avoid peak times…

Their crowd control is pretty bad here. There’s all these fresh off the boat people who push and don’t respect that other people were waiting to make their order first. So come when it’s not likely to be busy(i.e. not early morning on weekdays or mid-morning on weekends.) That said, it’s a decent place — the bakery items are good. The prices are not awful, especially for stuff like milk tea or coffee — way cheaper than D&D’s and Starbucks(who don’t even sell fresh soy milk or milk tea.) And it’s super convenient for me and for all the other Chinese people who live in Wollaston.
