My wife and I were at a conference in Raleigh, and stumbled upon the Hansley Gallery one Saturday morning while out getting coffee. We hung around until he opened, and am I glad we did. What a treasure of NC artists. Lee Hansley is the dean of curators dedicated to art from the Old North State. A wonderful man, very willing to share what he knows, and just a treat to spend time around. We’ve bought several paintings now, and always make time to swing by and see what is new on the walls. One of the very best– if not the best– gallery in Raleigh if you like 20th century art and modernism.

How many times have you walked past this gallery and just kept on walking?! If you’re like me, it’s probably been A LOT! It could be because of all the greenery in front of the house, or the fact that this gallery IS a house, but do NOT pass them by next time, take a look! I bet you’ll be surprised. They have rotating exhibits every couple of months AND a large room full of great [deceased] artists that have had some influence in North Carolina(either taught here, lived here, born here, etc). Wander through the five living spaces converted to art spaces and learn about a new artist. You won’t want to miss out on saying hello to Sir Walter Raleigh, the house dog, and enjoying the ENORMOUS knowledge that the gallery owner can share! This gallery has GREAT hours and they are also open during Raleigh’s First Friday art walk. The sign is always out on Glenwood when the gallery is open, so look for the sign and venture up the stairs! What a little treat we have right in the heart of THE«club-hopping» street of Raleigh!
