The food was excellent. Oh my and portion size for price was even better. Service started slow but then picked up and I could not have asked for anything better.

Went for brunch. Waiter offered no water, took forever to get it. One of us never received grits ordered. Eggs Benedict were not warm and egged were not poached and yolks were firm. We were the firsts guests there. Two other tables came after. One of them was served before us. It took probably 30 minutes to receive our order. One of us asked for butter and jelly but almost finished his meal before he got it after asking again. It was brought by handfuls and placed in a pile on the table would have been nicer served on a plate or bowl not a big deal but just one more unpleasantness. Manager took 5% off bill and apologized saying they must be sleepy in the kitchen

Service was good! Juan was attentive(other person in my party thought too much so), and friendly. The lobster quesadilla left a lot to be desired, and the queso crunch burger was not so much queso than corn chips. We ordered mimosas and were served plain orange juice, as the bartender forgot to include it in the glass…

This was my first and hopefully last experience at this place. The atmosphere was great and the host was very kind, but that’s pretty much where it ended for me. Our waitress was awful! She was very pushy about the pace of our dinner despite the joint being fairly empty, and thanks to her prodding our date(at least at this venue) lasted less than an hour. We had to ask three times for our drinks, and multiple times for appetizer plates as she was more keen to tend to other tables. She gave us less than 5 minutes to review the menu before placing our order, and then when I needed more time she never came back until we walked over to get her. I asked if I could get something in place of broccoli, which she said was fine, but when I asked what other options were available she didn’t give me any options. Taking a shot in the dark I asked for green beans, which she said would be no problem. Turns out, they don’t serve green beans, so I still got broccoli. Further, she never refilled our waters, so I had to drink my date’s water and when she noticed this she chose to just take away the second water glass instead of refilling both glasses. The food was just mediocre overall, but that alone wouldn’t stop me from trying anything else. For me the service was really what will prevent me from returning.

For a place in the mall, I think it beats the chains nearby! Nice beer selection with a M-T weekday special board and a few ½ price apps also Monday to Thursday. I had the ½ price Reuben egg rolls and the $ 4 beer special and ended up with a tasty meal and drink for $ 10! I’m happy with it and bar tender was super sweet and just helpful enough to not be annoying!

We have ordered from here through delivery before but we just ordered and are extremely disappointed with the food. We usually order from here and get the grilled meaty wings and ordered that tonight but instead we received fried wings that don’t even have meat on them. Extremely disappointed with them.

Our first there was on Valentine’s. On a whim. Greeted immediately by everyone that passed us, including a food runner. A nice touch since that doesn’t usually happen. Origins quoted 45 minute wait(we felt was short because it was valentines) Then we where offered a choice the booth by the door(which may be cold) or a spot at the bar. We opted with the booth and where fine. Just kept our jackets on. Ordered empanadas & the red monkey burger. The food was really great. Made our bellies happy. The menu was of a different fare. Unsure if exotic would be the right way to explain it. Just not your basic burger & fries that’s angus meat. I was happy to see that. The atmosphere was eclectic, different. I love it. The bathrooms where very clean. Good sign for me. I think is a reflection of the place. Now for the main reason I give a five star, the server. And the entire crew. I want to say her name was Leeann. She was the nicest, most delightful server we’ve had in a long time. I asked what the bartenders specialty was; she knew! Doesn’t always happened. As my husband and I where waiting on food etc. we noticed many patrons being rude to different servers/food runners. It was a TOUGHTOUGHCROWD. Didn’t need to hear verbatim, but not one employee lost their smile. All where nice the whole time, not even when leaving the patron. They didn’t have a frown in the place. Being there late at night on an evening expecting to wait a while to sit & get food, these servers and crew kept it professional. I think sometimes people look down on folks who work in the service industry, which is shameful. I am by far a professional critic, but credit is due where credit is due. I am most likely to return somewhere where there’s service then good food. The red monkey has both. I don’t get a chance to go out often and like to be selective when we do. The red monkey is now on our list. We are not the type of folk that goes somewhere a bunch and them 1x hiccups happens and call in quits. We dont have not one bad thing to say. Thank you for making our bellies happy, a chance for us to relax & have a good time. Leann thanks for giving us that!

I visited here 1÷25÷16, the Monday after a large snowstorm hit the area. The parking lot was an ice sheet and apparently people just park wherever they damn well please. Lines on the ground are merely a guide, not the law. I am a craft beer junky so I was glad to find this place. I was staying at a hotel across the street but a co-worker picked me up and we drove. It’s in a good location there at the mall, but parking is a nuisance. The beer list was pretty sweet. It was all craft beer and local stuff dominated. I got a local Black IPA and Duck Rabbit Porter, which is a favorite of mine. For food, I got a salad and was disappointed. It was all greens with very little toppings. If you are going to serve me a bowl of spinach, just say so on the menu. A bowl of spinach with sporadic toppings does not a salad make. Interesting fact: they serve their beers in two 8 oz glasses. The reasoning? To keep the second half of your beer cold so your hand doesn’t warm said beer. I am not sure how anybody else drinks their beers, but I don’t generally hold the beer in my hand the whole time I am drinking it. I usually rest it on the bar or table at which I am dining. Interesting concept but the efficacy doesn’t really translate.

Dan & I decided to go to the mall the day after the Friday ice-storm. Half the shops were closed but luckily Red Monkey Tavern was open. We decided to stop in for some lunch. The food was OK. Dan had shrimp & grits and I had the Monkey Nachos w/pulled lamb. Both were OK, but nothing to write home about. The only real gripe I have is that our server had no idea what I was asking for when I asked if they carry hard cider. I don’t drink beer so I wasn’t interested in hearing about the locally sourced beers. The servers first answer when I asked was«no», then she asked me if it was a mixed drink. She then said she’d ask the bartender. The bartender sent her over with a bottle of Bold Rock hard cider(which was fantastic!) Not thrilled that she told me «no» right off the bat without knowing what hard cider was or whether or not they actually carried it. Get it together, girl, you represent Red Monkey Tavern. You left me with a less than stellar impression of your establishment.

My sisters and I decided to eat here after a day of shopping last month and we were so glad we did! The Nachos were out of this world good! I wish I had taken a picture of the nachos because they were honestly the best loaded nachos I’ve ever had. We all ordered burgers and the burgers were juicy and flavorful. We plan on coming back soon!!!

First time trying the restaurant out. It was okay. We tried the chicken empanadas. The portion was small(3 empanadas) and higher($ 10 for an order) in comparison to other restaurants who offer the same thing. For my entrée I got the buffalo chicken and grits. I am happy I got the buffalo sauce on the side because it was too hot for my liking. The grits were cooked perfectly with cheese. My date ordered a turkey burger. He said it was okay had too much cheese and the meat was too thick. He only ate half of it. Overall the atmosphere was nice but I was disappointed that the food didn’t live up to all the hype I had heard about it. I will definitely try it again and check out something different on the menu.

Nice place to grab a bite. Located in the mall and easy to find! I just had a bowl of the Rock Shrimp Bisque, it was good, very creamy and smooth. maybe a bit too smooth. I didn’t really taste any chunks of shrimp, but was still delicious. They do serve local North Carolina craft beer which is always good. I liked the vibes of this place. Seemed a bit laid back and overall enjoyable place to grab a quick bite and a beer.

Had a rather nice meal here the other eve. Wasn’t willing to wait the half hour for a table at the Cheesecake Factory so we went next door to the Red Monkey. She had the Salmon salad which she loved, and I had the corned beef Reuben sandwich. Mine was not quite up to New York standards but still pretty good. We did notice the more expensive sandwiches were huge. As an alternative to the Cheesecake Factory the Red Monkey was quite satisfactory and we were pleasantly surprised.

Oh my goodness! The food here is outstanding! I didn’t know food like this could come out of a mall restaurant! I had the Curry Shrimp, my husband had the pastrami sandwich. We were both very pleased! I was so full but I kept eating because my dish was soooo good!

My first time here and I had an awesome experience! I’m visiting some friends in NC and one of my friends is a regular here and said we had to go for the Mac and cheese they make. It definitely was delicious! I had ordered the buffalo chicken mac and cheese but minus the blue cheese crumbles on top — I’m not a fan of blue cheese in general LoL The portion was very large, no complaints about that! I had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day hehe Orderd a few Bloody Mary’s as well before we ate– and they were nice and strong. The atmosphere is really nice too. It’s pretty dim inside and has a lot of cool statues and things. Another thing– our server«Rich» — absolutely loved this guy! What a pleasure! I’ll definitely be going back on my next trip to NC! :-)

Not great. Had the nachos as the waitress recommended it. The cheese was cold and did not taste good. Calamari was ok but not great. The only saving grace was the wine bottles were half off. The ambiance is good, slightly steampunkish.

Once upon a time this place was hot and trendy, with great food and was a real treat to patron. It seems like this place has gotten complacent — the food is not as good and overall boring, yet the prices are the same if not higher. I hope they can get the magic back, I really used to like this place. The atmosphere and drinks are great, hence the two stars.

This review covers a previous visit that I remember well. I had just started to try online dating a more than a few years ago. Yes I know. Sigh. The beginning of a long 5-year nightmare. But I and a lady needed a place to meet that was nearby both of us and public. Red Monkey was it. I wasn’t hungry and neither was she so we decided to try a couple of their beers on tap. I picked some amber I had never heard of and she picked a light cider. I really liked the glass my beer was served in and even asked about it to the waitress. She explained that some of the beers are served in glasses that they’re meant to be served in for presentation’s sake and that she would pass on my compliment to the manager. After the meal my waitress asked me if it was ok to top off my beer for $ 3 before she brought my check. It was last call and I thought it a tad strange but I was game. After I paid my tab she took the glasses and the check and returned with a wrapped object. She told me that the manager had arranged for me to get a ‘refill’ with a complimentary gift of the glass which she had wrapped for me in wax paper. Nice touch. I still have that glass today. Happy Monkey’ng around!
