This place was really good and the décor was beautiful. The wait time for my food was decent. My family and I sat at the sushi bar and I loved being able to see my food being made. The waitresses were very sweet as well and were checking up on us at the right time and gave us refills when needed. I would definitely go back.

I know this is going to seem so trivial, but the chopsticks here were made of metal. METALLL! I actually had a hard time using them to pick up my rolls because of how heavy they were. Still kind of fun and different. Ok ok anyways. I came here for a pre-wedding dinner recently. They accommodated a party of 14 quite easily and were surprisingly not as ticked as they could have been due to us having to alter the time of the reservation. A couple of times. I tried the spicy veggie and the tsunami roll. The tsunami roll had more flavor then the veggie roll, and the veggie roll did fall apart a bit. It was the roll I had the hardest time picking up with those metal chopsticks. I know, I know. get it together Stephanie. Our waitress was fairly patient considering the large party and my personal interactions with her she was friendly. Nice atmosphere and everyone else enjoyed the food they ordered(I can’t even begin to list it all.)

I have been here several times recently, thinking that it would redeem itself, because there was a day that I loved shaba shabu, but I don’t know what has happened. The rolls come undone, the fish I’ve had a couple times tasted funny, or old, and my friend and I had gotten food poisoning. Won’t be returning here regardless of their BOGO.

This was by far the worse experience I have ever had. Usually I love bragging about great experiences so this is a true let down. The server Nyhjah did not communicate well, the sushi was bland. I had the rainbow roll and spider roll. Suppose to be BOGO and they didn’t take it off original receipt and the food took so long that I was dying to get out of there. Even the saki was warm not hot. The manager Peter was rude when I went back to get a receipt for the cash I paid and come to find out they were going to pocket the BOGO difference! Unsure if this is a mistake or a scam they run but over all nothing was good about this place!!! I don’t how this place will stay open

Not well run at all. We have given them 3 shots over the past 6 months and every time the mess it up. The first time they didn’t get a waiter to our table for 10 minutes and we walked out. Now it has been 25 minute and no food(we timed it) since we ordered

Ate at bar. Good value. Good bartender — he makes anything you ask for and doesn’t grumble about it. Rolls were decent. Seaweed salad was EXCELLENT. Miso soup was generous and excellent. I would probably return but would bring an extra layer to wear. Even though it was a perfect 70 degrees outside, they had the AC cranking so that it was about 60 degrees in that joint. WTF? Why do we need to keep restaurants so darn cold? What’s the advantage? So your workers don’t feel uncomfortable? What about your guests who are shivering and questioning whether to return?

The sushi is great, we ordered it to go and they had it ready in the time frame promised. The sushi was fresh, well made, and the rolls were a great size! Very pleased. The selection of rolls on the bogo menu is amazing! We were very happy with our choices. The only thing I would suggest is when boxing up to go orders keep the cooked with the cooked and the raw with the raw. Please note– If you look through the Unilocal app… it doesn’t give you all the options if you look at the restaurant in person… Unilocal app isn’t great for viewing or ordering because the app doesn’t give you the bogo specials when you try and check out.

Can’t go wrong with BOGO sushi! Came here with a coworker looking for a bite to eat before the show at the Ritz. I suggested Shaba Shabu due to some of the Unilocal reviews from some fellow Elite Unilocalers that I knew. Shout out to Lindsay S, Cindy G, and Lauryn C! We got there around 7PM and got a table pretty quickly. I noticed they definitely got the mood lighting in effect. Another thing I noticed was the vessel that they used for our water. It came in a rectangular cup. I’ve never seen water served like that before. Oh you fancy huh? Also, the chopsticks are metal which is interesting. I went with my usual sushi rolls of choice: Shrimp Tempura and California. The California rolls were excellent but the highlight has to be the Shrimp Tempura. They added some sort of glaze which just added a hint of sweetness which boosted the flavor. Also, the breading on that tempura was on point. It was very light so it’s probably Panko and it adds that nice crunchiness which takes the complexity to a whole new level. Service was good and the staff was friendly. I’ll definitely be back next time I’m in the area. This place is a solid 4.5.

Went here for dinner and was super impressed. Went with the hopes that it was shabu shabu as I know it where you get to cook your own stuff however this was not like that. Duopoly there was a section where you could do this but I didn’t see it and it was not available at the time. Anyways…they have a huge selection of food ranging from Thai, sushi and Chinese. Our group got some apps, most notable was the CHICKENHARUMAKI which is basically cheese and chicken egg rolls. Pretty sure one of the best things I have ever had! We also ordered the Edamame and of course that is always good. For our main meal we got sushi and all of it was good. Not one roll was bad! It all tasted fresh and was really good! Plus there is a lot of options. Best part of the sushi is they have a Buy One Get One free situation going on. Read the rules as that may mess you up but so worth it. Staff was very friendly and on top of helping us anytime we needed anything. I would for sure return to this place. Enjoy!

I can’t believe it has taken me this long to review this place. It is one of my most frequent restaurants that my wife and I go to. Their are a few better places like Cowfish and a couple others but their price is significantly cheaper and they never seem to have a wait. Their staff is friendly and they have a large selection of sushi as well as pasta dishes. It seems to be a place that is very popular for takeout. They do buy one get one free sushi which is always good. I also like their ginger salads and crazy noodle Thai dish. My wife enjoys their pad tai. I would highly recommend checking it out if u want something reasonably priced and quick.

Seriously delicious flavor! Mom and I had dinner here tonight for Triangle Restaurant Week. Thankfully, I was able to nab us a reservation just a few hours away from dinner at 6pm. Beautiful restaurant in a shopping center on Wake Forest Road. The place was very busy, but we had great service even though our server seemed to operate on two speeds: rushed or gliding. He never let our waters diminish and got my request for no green onion and bean sprouts in the pad thai just right. No complains on the quality or presentation of the food, at all. Like many Restaurant Weeks, our dinner was three courses. Mom had one of the soups, but my first course was the Ginger Dressing Salad… Crisp lettuce with tomato, cucumber, and topped with carrot and house made ginger dressing. The salad was very good, but I think there was a bit too much dressing. It was kind of soupy at the bottom. We each had the same second course, the Japanese Sampler Appetizer… Fried Gyoza(pork dumplings), Fried EbiShumai(shrimp dumplings), and Chicken Harumaki(fried). 2 pieces each. The chicken looked like a spring roll and tasted like it had some sort of cheese in it. The sample platter came with a platter on the side that had a few different kinds of sauces: a mustard, some sort of duck sauce, and then a thinner sauce that was similar to a soy glaze. We also each had the Pad Thai for our third course. I opted for the chicken while she chose the shrimp. Very flavorful with rice noodles, stir fried egg, and roasted peanuts. I’d heard good things about this location, but this was our first visit and we were very pleased. If it was a little more convenient to the areas of Raleigh I frequent, I might make myself a regular.

Had a great lunch here with some awesome service from our waitress. Ill start off by saying you really cant beat their lunch special which comes with a rather large serving along with tom kha soup which is GREAT here for 5.99! The other lunch items if they arent on special are only a few bucks more. We got their sushi rolls which are all BOGO and were pretty good. I liked the fuji roll over the Flambé roll. Will definitely be back and it wasnt terribly busy for a weekday lunch. Plenty of parking since its in a strip mall.

I wandered in here on a random Monday looking for a bite to eat after running errands. I was delighted! Not only did I accidentally choose the best day of the week to go but the service and overall experience was top notch! I’m hesitant to share this secret but I can’t contain myself and must share. Monday is $ 8.99 Red Curry and it is FAN-TASTIC! I plan on heading back for the $ 5.99 Pad Thai(also a Monday special).these deals can’t be beat :) The bartender was a good conversationalist and the curry was like a little palate party! Great ambiance for a date too! Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

I have been here multiple times in large groups for sushi outing. Their BOGO sushi has always been good and has never disappointed me. Their pad thai is disappointing. I found it to be too dry and lacked any flavors. I missed the fish sauce flavor in it. Chicken Yakishoba as good. In another instance, I do recall their thai dishes to be inferior to their japanese menu counterparts. Bottomline: Sushi and only dishes off their Japanese cuisine pls.

Still a one star review. I want to update this with some additional information. In my initial review, I had an issue with the way the sushi(BOGO) was billed. To quote my earlier review: «Came with a large party(10ish or so). Was told by the server that all the sushi would go on one tab but that they could easily split things up for us to pay individually. Ok. I order sushi as does one other person. The sushi is BYGO free. Standard. My rolls were 8.90 and 12.90. The other person’s rolls were 6.90 each. Now, when I ordered I assumed I was paying for my 12.90 roll but my 8.90 was the free one. Nope. Not the case. They put all the sushi on one bill and then drop the cheapest. What this means is it’s not about you and what you order but about how your group as a whole orders. I took the bill up front and asked to speak with a manager. I explained what our server told us. Manager basically says that the policy is the policy because it’s the policy. And apparently justifies this by saying everyone else in town does it this way too.» I recently went to a different sushi restaurant with a part of 12. They also had BOGO sushi. Remembering my experience here, I asked our server how the BOGO would be done. I tried to explain how it had been billed at Shaba Shabu, and asked if this was how they did it. He said no. He explained that the sushi I ordered would be on my bill and my bill alone. So, when I ordered two rolls(each was about 15.00). My second roll was free regardless of what others at the table ordered. So this statement from the Shaba Shabu manager that everyone in town bills the way they do — questionable at best. Maybe some other places do — but not everyone.

I came here for a post-exam lunch. Shaba Shabu is a great place for lunch. They have daily $ 5.99 lunch specials and also buy one get one free sushi rolls(range from $ 7 – 17). I ended up getting the Diablo and Fish Lover Rolls. They were both good, but not great. Fish quality seemed decent and portion sizes were good. The sushi also came out quickly, which was another plus They have about 50 different types of rolls to choose from. While variety is good, choosing from 50 can also be a little difficult. Oh well, first world problems. Another plus is their draft beer selection. Visiting North Carolina for a few days, it was nice to try some local beers on draft. They also have nightly drink specials. Overall, Shaba Shabu is a solid sushi option. The interior décor is also nice and modern. Of course it’s a Japanese-Thai fusion restaurant, so don’t expect the most authentic Japanese fare. A lot of the rolls are pretty«Americanized», but I am not hating on that. I’m sure there’s something for everyone. *3.5 stars*

Lets seek for the good stuff first: Interior, nice and posh. Atmosphere is good. Front door greeter is good. Food, Whoa, I had the worst stomach/digestive issues following lunch here. Maybe my expectations were too high as I had no breakfast that morning and came with a hunger. I had the $ 15 three course lunch meal which consisted of salad, veggie and seafood mini rolls and a rice a tofu dish. Maybe the fish was not fresh but following lunch like 10 minutes later I was in the bathroom. My tofu was white in the middle and not fried all the way through… I would not recommend.

Catching up on reviews. This was for a visit in September ’14 I was very excited to find a restaurant that offered shabu shabu in the area. It’s one of the things I really miss from the Bay Area, CA. Unfortunately, this place did not meet my expectations. Value $ 25 for the cheapest meat option(NY Steak). My friend and I opted to try the kobe style beef for $ 37. You get one small platter of meat and some veggies. I get that this area doesn’t have many places that serve this kind of stuff, but I’m used to paying $ 18 – 20 for a bigger portion. $ 37 puts you in the range of AYCE places in CA. Quality The beef was ok. Not as marbled as you would expect from a kobe style beef. Dipping sauces were good. Service Nothing outstanding to call out. My pot was not heating up very fast, and the waitress misunderstood me when I tried to tell her and turned the heat down. Discovered 10 minutes later when I was trying to cook beef in warm water. Misc. The pot doesn’t look like it was sitting on an induction style stove. Might have been the reason for the heating issues. The other thing is that the cooking pot was so far in front of us that we both had to stand up in order to reach into the pot… a minor issue but was very weird. The one thing that I really enjoyed was the banana tempura a la mode. Can’t really go wrong with a fried banana topped with green tea ice cream. I might eventually go back to try the sushi, but it’s hard to justify when there are so many other restaurants in the area to check out.

I came here for Valentine’s Day and I was highly impressed. We made a reservation for 6PM and was seated as soon as we walked in. We got the 4-course Valentine’s Day dinner for 2 deal, which came with an appetizer, first course, second course, and dessert. The total was $ 55 for two people. Because of the great price, I expected it to have small portions, but it was definitely more than I expected. I ordered the salad with ginger dressing for the appetizer. For the first course, I ordered the Thai appetizer sampler. This plate had a total of 3 types of appetizers(2 of each) with a variety of sauces for each one. I loved the presentation of it! It was very simple and cute. For the main course, I ordered Chicken Pad Thai. I’m a huge fan of Pad Thai and I was not disappointed with the taste! For the dessert, I had the Cheesecake Panko Tempura for dessert, which was very delicious! The tempura crust balanced the cheesecake very well. Despite it being a busy night, the service was great! Our waitress attended us very well and explained the menu really well, too. The only thing I disliked was how dark the eating area was. I would definitely recommended this restaurant! I am looking forward to going back again.
