I have now had Slippin Sliders three times, and I have not gone home disappointed! I threw a surprise birthday party for my wife back in the spring, and I thought hiring a food truck would be a fun concept. A friend of my wife had heard about Slippin Sliders so she and I decided to give them a test run prior to hiring them. I put down three sliders and sweet potato fries w/apple butter pretty quickly, and then went back for two more sliders(I was a pretty big guy back then…). I hired them for the birthday party, and they did a fantastic job, and the feedback I got from our friends was overwhelmingly positive. I was able to put the menu together, and they created a couple of special items specific to my wife’s tastes. She’s a big fan of mexican food, so we had a «Mexican Burger» and chicken tacos on the menu, among a few of their specialties. The food was great and I have recommended them repeatedly to friends for events. They ran out of food, but only because folks were going back for seconds and thirds… my fault for underestimating the demand! This isn’t a criticism, but the only thing to keep in mind is that they are cooking food to order out of a truck that has one relatively small griddle in it. Yes, it is food from a truck, but don’t assume that your food will be ready McDonald’s-fast. Everything they prepare is fresh, and largely locally produced(which is awesome), so to anyone that wants to try it, just be patient. The burgers are definitely worth the wait. My favorites are the Texas, Slick Slack Apple Jack and the West Coast. I’m glad to learn they have a new spot in Raleigh for lunch on Friday, and I intend to make this a regular stop on my lunch rotation.

I’ve tried Slippin Sliders twice now outside of Big Boss and have been so thrilled both times! This past time, I was very happy with the combo price of $ 6 for two sliders and a side of fries. This second time, although I was disappointed to see that they didn’t have their sweet potato fries(which are to die for), their cajun fries were a great substitute– perfectly seasoned and crispy. I had the Diablo which was a beef slider with caramelized onions, jalapenos, ranch, texas pete, and cheese. The flavor combination was explosive and my only complaint is that there was too much bread and not enough meat. I also tried one of their chicken sliders and although I don’t remember which one, if you ask them they always say it’s one of their favorites! It had an amazing(I think balsamic) caramelized onions and this incredible sauce. Another thing to mention is that the Slippin Sliders staff is very active in the movement to get Raleigh to loosen up the food truck laws. They are very informative and great to talk to about what’s going on with the situation. Not only that, but the girls are incredibly sweet and very happy to make suggestions. Slippin Sliders has quickly become my food truck fave and I’m making Friday evening at Big Boss a routine just for that reason.

I love the idea of sliders! Miniature burgers? SoooOOO cute! I ordered two: the Diablo — jalapeños with Texas Pete and ranch dressing; and the turkey burger with apple and bacon. The Diablo won my heart for being a creative combination that packed a lot of flavor into a bite-size serving! The turkey burger was pretty good — the bacon giving a nice salty side note — but I’d been expecting sliced apple and was surprised that instead it seemed to have a spread of applesauce or apple butter? In hindsight, the sweet flavor of this(rather than the crisp tart of a green apple) brought something unique to the slider; but I did miss the texture that would have come with an apple slice. The unsung hero? Whoever is doing their pastries. Because the Aces & Ates cupcake with a shot of Irish cream liqueur to pour on top was outstanding — moist and delicious, and totally St Patrick’s Day appropriate!

When I heard that the Slippin Sliders truck was right outside of Big Boss, I had to try it out. I had heard so much about the wonderful, magical sliders wrought from the hands of this traveling band of grillers. Because it was negative jillion degrees outside that night, there was no line. I was hungry and dying to try some of these burgers so I had the shromin’ chicken, el diablo, and texas. All three were pretty delicious, albeit a little small and a teensy overpriced at $ 7/three burgers. Nonetheless, I really don’t think Slippin’ Sliders deserves all the 1 and 2 star reviews it’s received. The burgers are tasty, and the concept of a slider food truck is golden. Verdict: Too many people chugging haterade for this place. I urge you to try one of their sliders — you’ll become a fan of them too!

Hey Amy D. I appreciate the offer. I promise to hit you guys up again … more than happy to support local businesses and the pursuit of advancing food in the area. Again thanks for the offer, but more than happy to get a 2nd impression on my own dime(if anyone comes claiming they are me will be an imposter). I also promise to update this post if my 2nd impression is different from my first. Also, thanks for standing behind your product. Please don’t change anything you do because of anything on this board. One of the reason that ‘ethnic’ food suffers in the area is that most conform to what people ask for and not stay true to their food. You obviously have enough supporters that losing 3 people on Unilocal wouldn’t be the end of the world. Original post: Slippin is right … these guys were slicker(greasier) than I hoped … I know these are«sliders» and by definition if they weren’t belly bombers, it would be false advertising. White Castles are built to be greasy little bombs with the simple toppings of pickle and that strange but awesome onion situation(I knew this old dude who refused to eat at a Whities that was less than 5 yrs old. «Need to let the grills come in» he would say with authority). In the end, White-ies actually don’t come off initially hitting you with greasiness(steam grilled to prefection). The toppings on the west coast seemed to enhance the slippery situation. The shroomin chicken was just a hot slippery mess. On a positive note, they did nail the bizzare not-enough-napkins-in-the-world-to-wipe-the-grease-off-your-lips feeling and the lead gut feeling 5 mins after eating parts right! So I guess the name fits.

I was really looking forward to trying these sliders but unfortunately I didn’t find them to be anything special. It’s really great that they use locally sourced ingredients but although nothing was bad, nothing we tried was memorable. Tried a West Coast Burger, a Teriyaki Burger, the El Diablo Burger, a Texas Burger, and the Po Boy Shrimp. The burger patties were bland and none of the flavor combinations were exciting. For me, the thing about sliders is that the filling really needs to pop with flavor to register through all that squishy white bun and sadly, for me, that just didn’t happen here.
