The slogan used to be a, it’s the bread. And it was the bread. Plus delicious fillings inside of the bread. But now the chain has been bought and the new owners forgot about the bread. And now the sandwiches are lackluster, worse than the average sandwich chain. Goodbye subconscious, you will be out of business soon, sadly. You cannot hope to sell sandwiches at such a high price for such low quality.

I’ve eaten here several times for lunch and they have good subs. The bread is great! And the Sub Conscious Sub is awesome as well. Nothing fancy, but the food is great!

I thought I would give it another try. The problem is they way you request the sandwiches done they don’t fix it that way. I asked for extra oil and vinegar and mayo and was missing all. Just disappointed

Grunting man, indecisive woman ruined experience. Food fantastic. Cheese burger sub is unique and filling.

Tried to go here for the first time today, but they were out of roast beef, the only lunch meat I eat. A sub shop being out of roast beef is like a pizzeria being out of pepperoni.

I got it delivered through grub hub, which is so convenient. I got the turkey sub with a side of soup &a 2 liter. It was just one of those days I didn’t feel like going out to get food. Fast delivery too

My daughter was at a swim meet nearby and needed food after several hard swims. She was wanting a sub but instead of the cookie cutter places like subway, my husband and I suggested an old standby at NCSU, Subconscious. She was impressed. She ordered a medium Ruben sub. It was huge, toasted and full of meat. She said she never gets anything like it. Sure the place shows a bit of age. I actually love the sign board with all the options– 50’s style! Now this was definitely not diet food, and I found nothing(except French fries) that were gluten free. But if you want a real treat when you come to State campus, skip the cookie cutter sub shops. Head to Subconscious.

LOVETHISPLACESOMUCH. Always drove by, never heard anything by word of mouth. Stopped in randomly with my boyfriend because we like to support local businesses.: and it’s awesome. Great deal on food, and just damn tasty. Took my mom, have since brought friends. Very casual, no wait staff. Recommendations from me personally: the veggie sub with cheese fries. My boyfriend got the chicken philly and my mom loves the regular philly. The staff is friendly.

Great breads for their sandwiches. Little sandwich shop between Meredith College and NC State.

Surprisingly good. One of the best places to get a sub on Hillsborough St. The fries were fresh and the bread was warm and tasty. You get a good amount of food for your money. Lots of options with a very diverse menu. Great for lunch.

This place is different than other chain type sub shops(i.e. Subway) and has a local feel to it. I stumbled in here after living in the area for 1.5 years, and immediately had one of the best pastrami subs I had ever tasted. The sign says«It’s the Bread», and the sign doesn’t lie. I go back weekly now.

If you like to shop local and bypass the chains make sure you give these guys a try. I needed a quick lunch and this place was spot on. I typically true an Italian sub at about any sub shop. Very good sub. The sign in front said it was«all about the bread» and they delivered on the bread. Give it a try. Nice people.

Picture four very hungry and very lazy people at 7pm on a Sunday night looking for delivery. These four people find Sub Conscious on GrubHub and proceed to order. What a horrible mistake. We placed our order and were surprised to find that our food was estimated to arrive at 8:35 — 8:45, more than an hour and a half after ordering. We were even more surprised when 9:15 rolled around and we still had no food. So there is the first problem, I should never have to wait more than two hours for a sandwich from two miles away. At this point I have to call them and the girl that answered was likely one of the most rude individuals I have ever encountered in the service industry to date. She said the food was on its way without getting any of my information and basically hung up on me. Our food finally arrives and everything that was meant to be hot is cold and half of our order is either missing or wrong. I ordered a buffalo chicken sandwich but apparently that translated to them as «only cold unflavored chicken on soggy bread». So we call them to complain. Surprisingly, they were more rude than the first time and said that there is no manager there. They offered to bring new food and somehow managed to fuck that up too by only bringing one of the items they said they would replace. Don’t waste your time and money on terrible, overpriced food and even worse service.

After driving by several times in the past few years, I decided to check out this little sub joint. They have a large oldschool menu above the counter that you order from, and a sweet little lady behind the counter to jot your order on oldschool order paper. They have several lunch specials throughout the week. They have their own parking lot and their dining room has about 20 tables and a few TVs. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak with mushrooms, onions, and jalapenos. It wasn’t a true Philly cheesesteak with whiz but it had provolone instead. The steak was more like roast beef, but it was good nonetheless. Sara got a turkey & cheese, which was just your regular turkey & cheese. nothing too special about these sandwiches.

Great sub! I’ve had their eggplant parm dozens of times and never been dissatisfied. My favorite style is «all the way.»

Went for the $ 5 lunch combo. Best deal! 8-inch turkey sandwich, chips, and a can of soda. The sandwich was good and the bread really was the best part. Fast service and better than your average sub.

I went by Sub Conscious for the first time in years. This locally owned place looks exactly as it did the first time I ordered a sub from this place. On the menu is all the usual stuff like pizza, wings, pasta and many different hot and cold sandwiches. On this visit I had the roast beef supreme and it was very good. Especially the bread. Honest, hard-working subs, both hot and cold varieties(though the cold subs are served on a nicely toasted bread). Not over-filled but certainly not under-filled. Huge menu, with pizza, pasta, chicken(wings and nuggets), and shrimp. Fountain drinks are served in styrofoam, unfortunately, but they do offer their house-made lemonade as well as a choice between sweet and unsweetened teas. To top it all off, they are a block from my house, so that makes SubConscious a new staple in my too-lazy-to-cook repertoire. They seem to have plenty of outdoor benches with umbrellas, but I moved here in the heat of summer and no one seems willing to venture out in the sweltering heat, especially with the imminent threat of the afternoon monsoons. Oh: and I should mention they also offer delivery!

Freaking disgusting. I’ve driven by here probably hundreds of times living in Raleigh and decided to stop in today. I get it… it’s an old college sub shop. It’s been around forever. Kind of a hole in the wall feel. I get that. That’s ok. The problem is their food! The pictures outside on the windows showed several different subs and specials. Noticing the meatball on a few, I figured I’d give it a try. The bread is toasty. Check. The meaball special for $ 5. Terrible. Worst flavored nasty sandwich I’ve ever had. The meatballs were this odd gray color(looked like boiled meat) and they were very tiny. They came no where near to half-way filling up the sandwich. I asked to add lettuce & banana peppers and was charged extra. Anyways, I got this god-aweful sandwich back to the office. I decided to take a picture and upload it. Maybe this is a cool place for some people. Not for me… And I worry about the people who like this. Any positive reviews cannot be from the food. They’ve gotta be from some local friends of the owner OR some college kid who walks by here on their way to class and their only food choices are 1) A cup of dirt or 2) a subconscious sandwich. Anyway, I wish I would have kept driving like I had done about a hundred times before.
