Ramona Old Time Country Store

BBQ!!!
Don’t the the staff with all their tattoos, body piercings, weird hairdos, drifting one eyes, and I think one guy has the top half a right ear missing, scare you off. Regardless, this BBQ is for real. The side dishes, like Mac and Cheese, well… not so much. In all honesty, I did consider giving this place 4 stars because of that one side dish, and possibly another though. More on that later.
Interesting, every time I go, the guy or gal in front of me always swears by the Lamb Burrito for $ 7.99. I tell them I am a «Beast» kind of guy.
Here is what I do. Get a loaf of White «Wonder» bread. Go in this place and get the «Combo Number 2» to go. It is like $ 13 and comes with 3 different meats and two side dishes. I like the Cold Slaw and the Bean (Get the Beans!). Get some extra sauce, 3 – 4 containers. Get some Schlitz Malt Liquor in the 32 oz bottle… I know, I know… Trust me. Go home to watch the game.
Assemble the Beast:
1). Sauce on both inside pieces of the «Wonder» bread.
2). Put a generous portion of meat on the bottom piece of bread.
3). Put a generous portion of strained beans on top of the meat.
4). Put a generous portion of the Cold Slaw on top of the Beans.
5). Put the top piece of bread on.
Wrap it up in a paper towel (more authentic newspaper) and drink with that ice cold Schlitz Malt Liquor Beer. Some folks say, «Colt 45» but I like the Schlitz.
The bad. The Mac and Cheese tastes like 7 – 11 Nacho Cheese spread on small shell pasta.
The Cold Slaw has entirely too much pepper to eat by itself.
The Beans give me gas… But I don’t care. They are that good! It’s the dog’s problem, not mine. Hahahahaha!

So, I’m new to Ramona (6 mos.) and I’ve been driving by this place everyday. I noticed «something» was different 2 weeks ago. (I did not know that the street BBQ was replaced with a legit SMOKER!) So I stopped in…
MAN, what a great aroma! They were smoking some Tri-​Tip & Ribs at the time & it smelled DELICIOUS! Tried the Pulled Pork sandwich with cheesy-​fries! Best I have ever eaten & I’m 60!
Next, brought in whole family (12) and had Sunday Lunch. Had everything on the menu and not one complaint! Pete, the Owner & James the chef are just awesome folk! Our experience was sooo good, my wife had them Cater my 60^th Birthday Party for 50 plus people.
Smashing success! Everyone asked who made the food. Told them all about Pete & James. You don’t stop here, you’re missing out on the best BBQ meat/​chicken in San Diego!

Had the Smoke Tri-​Tip Sandwich with BBQ Beans… Awesome!!! Only thing I wish is that I had more. Hahaha
Great job guys!

Came into the store seeking some tasty craft brew and was amazed by the large selection. Picked up 3 cases of yummy San Diego suds and made it home to realize some of the beer was expired by nearly five months. It wasn’t a big deal, I would cruise back up to the store and get some fresh stuff, easy right? Not the case
I get back to the store and tell the clerk he’s got some expired beer on the shelf and he grabs the guy in the back, guess what? It’s ALL expired. I thought I would just swap it out with another beer at the same price, but the only other one I could find was also EXPIRED! The tweaky clerk up front doesn’t understand the issue and tries to give me two dollars off. Haha yeah right! I want something I can drink! I resort to grabbing something for 4 dollars more and he wants me to cough up the difference. Shit man, at this point it should be an even swap for the inconvenience. In hindsight I wish I would have just got my money back. Also he didn’t even believe I was there ten minutes before and thought my receipt wasn’t good enough or something.
In the end this place lost out BIG time, I was originally going to come back and spend at least a few hundred dollars on beer to take back up to the Bay Area. If you choose to go to this place CHECK THE DATES! Nearly all the beer is EXPIRED. I won’t be back.

Stopped here to get some food when we were waiting for a tow after our motorcycle got a flat. They were very nice, and the food was good
