Ordered the NY strip(medium) and they sent it out well done. Steak was cooked to the consistency of a hockey puck. Presentation was pretty poor as well.

Not a bad spot to grab dinner and/or a drink or perhaps a night cap before hitting the sack for the night. This place actually serves up some fairly good Italian fare headlined of course by their lasagna. The location(inside Marriott) is modernly appealing and the service has been solid each and every-time I have been. Overall, not a bad spot if searching for food and you don’t want to leave your hotel. Pros– Service Lasagna Nice menu Wine selection Modern décor Cons– Within Marriott No draft beer at bar?! Can get pricey for the area

For a restaurant in a hotel in Rancho Cordova, Formaggio Taverna does a quality job of giving you a nice meal with a nice atmosphere to boot. I came here for a group meal at 9 am on a Wednesday morning. Considering it was hump day and there was a free continental breakfast buffet down the hall, the place was unsurprisingly empty except for us. This meant we were well attended to and received our food all at the same time and piping hot, straight from the kitchen. The corned beef hash didn’t impress me as much as some of the other corned beefs I’ve tasted around town(it’s hard to beat Taylor’s Kitchen), but it was still tasty and even better with the crispy hash browns I ordered on the side. All in all it’s a great breakfast option in a city(Rancho) known for an embarrassing lack of notable eateries.

For service only. So the other day a small group of us had lunch at Formaggios. We decided to split the bill … sounds like no big deal right? The waiter(RAFAEL) came back, called out the names listed on the cards. We signed. We left. La-di-dah. The next day I see on my bank statement 2 different charges on my card; my share of the bill AND the entire bill amount. I called the restaurant and of-course they give the typical run-around, «Let me get your information and we will call you back.» After 1 hour I get a call from not someone in management, but the waiter. Good ‘ol Rafael explains to me he remembers serving us blah blah blah… and he will see what he can do.(What was the point of the waiter calling?! I have no clue) Another hour passes. Then two. No call. I decided to drive back to the restaurant to resolve this in person. I get to the restaurant and they tell me the waiters have left and Rafael is not there to speak with. The manager gets pulled out to speak to me. She explains that the waiter has«mistakenly» charged my card twice and that generally happens.(The EXCUSEME?! expression is on my face) The true amount will be charged and the other reversed… First off: We were splitting the bill over TWO cards. Not a hundred. It ain’t rocket science. Secondly: It’s ‘s nice how management shrugs it off as a simple«Oops» moment. This is not an «Oops» moment. Your waiter(RAFAEL) made an error BUT did not bother to tell me this information. Hoping what? I wouldn’t notice? So what if it reverses?! As of RIGHT now the funds are frozen out there and can’t be used. Oh and HOW nice that management does not even offer anything. No sorry. No compensation for their staff member’s stupidity. NOTHING. Yay for encouraging stupidity! Done.

Overpriced food, stark ambience, indifferent service, and substandard food. Don’t bother to try them.

This is a great restaurant to dine in when visiting near or staying at the Mariott, Rancho Cordova. I have eaten here many times in the past year and I have not yet once been disappointed with the food or service. One time, I showed up late and was limited to a fairly small menu selection, but that was definitely not their fault. The food has been spectacular. Sure, just a tad pricey, but you would expect that for a restaurant or any other venue located in a hotel. I’m sure it is a surcharge based on convenience. If you are a fan of pizza, theirs is delicious, and wood-fired in their pizza oven. If you like fried calamari, it is perfectly battered and fried, definitely not overcooked and tender. I will surely be dining here again when I need to travel for work!

What a great surprise. We were looking for a nice local restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner and Formaggio‘s nailed it. The food was delicious, the wine was great and our server Brent was a pro. Hats off to all the staff for such a warm & friendly Thanksgiving experience. This was our first visit and we will be back.

great atmosphere, good food and super service — the spicy burger was wonderfully prepared — the special sauce has a tasty«kick» to it and the sweet potato fries are yummy! enjoy!

I came here for lunch at 12 noon on a Friday and the place was dead. Personally I think I was looking for a place that had more energy it was a Friday after all and I wanted to get the weekend started right. They had what looked like a full bar so I asked if they had a bartender on staff and the answer was no that the waiter or waitress’s would attempt to make the drink based on experience working in the restaurant. It’s not as if they did anything bad it was just a buzz kill no energy no life in the restaurant which just made the experience very blasé. I seriously doubt I’ll be back.

It’s ok. That’s the best I can say. We had a table of four and the pizzas and pasta we ordered were executed nicely but tasteless. I think it comes down to quality of ingredients and seasoning. The staff were distracted and had no idea about the specials, wine or the daily cocktails they had listed. Super average and no way I’d eat here again.

We showed up to the hotel late(10pm) and by the time we got situated it was just too late to try anything else. They still were open with a late night bar menu which worked perfectly. Excellent pizza(prosciutto, mushroom) and their candied miso BBQ wings were awesome. Also had great friendly service. Prices were reasonable too.

If you’re statying at the Marriott this restaurant is a very convenient place to go. The staff is friendly and accomodating. The manager even stops by each table to check on their customers. I would have given them 5 stars, but I struggle with the very small menu selection that they offer. It’s primarily pizza, a few pasta dishes and a handful of variations(steak, chops, salmon). The outside seating area is nice as it overlooks the pool area, which is pretty descent, however, the pool goers use the restaurant area of the patio as a walk way. So from time to time you will have the soaking wet person walk by as you are enjoying your meal. The food is good. The pork chops are tender and perfectly cooked. Pizza is not drowning in sauce. I would recommend if you’re at the Marriott.

Nice setting, excellent wood fired pizzas, attentive and polite staff. I enjoyed both dinners I’ve had while here, but they slipped up on my lunch so badly I have to downgrade the rating. The chicken was dry and tasteless, and the sweet potato fries tasted great at first but then I tasted something acrid and off, like… cologne? Cleaning fluid? It was bad enough I had to spit out my fries at the table(yuk, sorry). I recommend not going until after 5:30PM, other meals were great.

Overpriced. I went there thinking it was $$(as Unilocal stated), but based on quality and quantity of food served it was definitely more in the $$$ range.

I gave 3 points instead of 1 because the pizza was excellent and the service was as well. We had a few pizzas, and all were very good. We ordered the risotto, but the cook served us rice boiled in water. It was tasteless, and clearly not risotto. We shared our pizza with the unfortunate soul who thought the risotto had a chance of being correctly prepared. The chicken dish was nicely garnished but not cooked completely– it was raw near the bone. The cesar salad was ok, nothing brilliant. We thought $ 8 dollars for 3 slices(nearly bite-sized) of tomato bruschetta was excessively marked up. Instead of sliced garlic cloves being rubbed on toasted bread(as in authentic Italian recipies), garlic was diced and mixed in with the tomatoes. Long story short– not worth $ 8.

Great food and prices for a hotel restaurant. We enjoyed the fried calamari and rock shrimp which we loved. The pizzas were great(my favorite was the prosciutto) but for the sausage pizza, I didn’t expect sliced sausage. It was kind of weird that it was just cut up and chunky all over the pizza. The service was a completely different story. It took over an hour for our pizza to come out and we were LITERALLY the only people in the restaurant.(…the chef had to cut fresh prosciutto… nice try…) They were conducting a job interview in the booth next to us which I thought was kind of trashy. Poor kid had me staring at him as he sold himself to the manager. They did offer us a free glass of wine for waiting which was a nice gesture. Overall, I would go back, but I would hope the service was just amiss that day.

I had asked to speak with your F&B Manager and when she did come out she insulted me. I explained to her that I own two catering companies along coming from a extensive history of a well know bakery in Los Angeles. He response to me that she liked the meatballs. It crappy service that I still had to pay for something that I did not eat. She never once apologize for MY experience along with disregarding the fact that I have been going there for years. I have been back to Rancho Cordova 6 times since the last trip and have not stepped foot back into Formaggio. Had she apologize things may have been different. As for Chef Patrick he should be cooking at a Dennys with his pompas attitude. NEVER let soggy french fries go out to a table. He then proceeded to touch them with his bare hands and said they’re french fries. If that’s not a caulky attitude then I don’t know one is. Anyone reading this go to the H Bar at the Hyatt House for drinks and snacks. Food at Formaggio is less than par. Save yours and your employer’s money and go to Brookfields across the street for home cooked meal for the half the price.

Nothing too fancy, but a nice good value restaurant in the Marriott hotel. The food and service were both very good.

We are locals and decided to try the restuarant out for a late New Year’s Eve dinner. This was our first time dining here. We were so impressed, everything was so delicious! They also had a pianist which made the experience more intimate. We loved everything. Me and my husband both had the prefix 5 course meal, everything from the appetizer to dessert was a solid 5 star! Everything was fresh delicious and just exploded with flavor. I had trout with veggies and gratin potatoes and my husband had the lamb and we were both raving about our dishes! Food was to die for! To top it off desert was a pleasant surprise, freshly prepared sweet goodness. We will definitely be back to dine here. Until now Formaggio was a hidden gem & were so glad we found it!
