Rubio’s

I like Rubio’s but not a big fan that they don’t use gloves while cooking or preparing food. I went in to eat about 3 months ago on a raining Sunday after noon and it was super slow. We had about 6 in our party. Our food was served below average. With that said it was luke warm and not presentable. I didn’t want to ask Rubio to remake our food after noticing that the cook was not wearing cooking gloves. I’m thankful that we didn’t get sick. I really hope that management and Rubio’s corporation reviews Unilocal and take action. Haven’t been in since but if nothing has changed then the health department should get involved.

Rubio’s was always just OK in my book, but they recently remodeled the restaurant and it looks like the menu has gone through and overhaul as well. I really liked the new menu and I had one of their limited time only salmon burritos. It tasted really good and I was pleasantly surprised. I took a bite of fish taco that my wife had ordered, it was much better than their old tacos. Instead of being just OK, they’ve risen to Pretty Good. Instead of passing by Rubio’s on my way to Chili’s, I may be stopping in at Rubio’s more often from now on.

They messed up my order. The pinto beans were burnt. And the food was hanging off the plate.

Good food but the recent remodel is a disaster. This place has a line out the door every day. So they removed 2of the 4 registers! They removed the 6 booths that seated 6 each and put in a bar that seats 12 total. Brainless.

The company I work for gets a catered lunch from this Rubio’s location at least once a week. Today there was a glitch and our order was somehow lost, but Heather totally took care of it!
I was in and out within 10 minutes, mind you this was during lunch rush! Everyone who worked the lunch hour today deserves a raise! They rocked the situation and I really appreciate great customer service!

The food was good but none of the people in the kitchen were wearing gloves. I’d try another location.

Makes a very solid fish taco, it’s a bit of greasy, but I’m not too bothered, I’m not getting a fried fish taco because it’s healthy. Salsa bar is always fresh, and everything is maintained pretty well. The service is what I’d expect, not superb, but not bad, meets expectations for the environment.
The wife usually gets something a bit less greasy, I can tell you I’ve never had a bad meal from Rubio’s, everything is pretty on point up there taste wise. Prices are a little high, but Tuesday is half off classic fish tacos, so that helps. For what you get you pay a good amount for not quite enough food, but honestly you probably should only eat so much anyway, so portions are probably correct, I’m just used to seeing more on a plate because portions at most restaurants are too much. I can’t knock them for giving me what I should eat, not as much as I could eat. I just wish their prices reflected that a bit more.

I always specialize my order and they always work with me to give me exactly what they want. I love that they have vanilla coke in the machine and the salsa is amazing. Today Carmen helped me get my order perfect when another cashier was having trouble figuring out what I needed. I’ve been to lots of rubios around california, this had been the most consistently good one I’ve been to: D

This is comparable to del taco, except twice the price, i would beg to differ del taco is fresher, the items that produce the food are the same, the service is excellent. Its an upscaled del taco

I’ve been here a few times for lunch and it was always good. The burritos are tasty and the fish tacos are awesome! The salsa bar has a decent amount of options nothing too spicy. The service has always been good

Food is consistently decent. Like that they always have new offerings even though I generally stick with fish tacos, lol.
I don’t know what it is, but this location generally feels unkempt…
Perhaps it’s the Manager constantly tucking the short sleeves of his green staff shirt into his armpits (who does this by the way? Not to mention this is the food service industry). Last time the cashier gal had an unsightly runny nose that kept glistening in the menu lighting.
Double ew!

Just to add on to my previous ratings I love this place!!! I literally can’t find a flaw. The staff is super friendly, laugh at my poor jokes and make great suggestions when you want to stray away from the AMAZING fish tacos.
We frequent rubio’s all over Sacramento and surrounding areas and this location rocks our socks off every time and are head and shoulders above the rest!!!

The place is nice, the service is good, the food is meh.
Overall it was decent but just didn’t do it for me. Will I go there again? Probably as there aren’t too many great options around.

I really enjoy Rubios most of the time I come in. Seriously though, I think the girl that was behind the counter today was really irritated and of course it reflected in her job. No greeting, smile or thank you. Yeah ok… no worries… my food was on point though, Thanks to the food preppers!

Joe K and I used to look forward to Taco Tuesdays at the Rubio’s near my home in south Sac. We would make a point of going there once or twice a month. Then, something must have changed with Joe’s food, because he vowed never to eat there again. But recently, while visiting my parents, they suggested treating us to Rubio’s in their area. I was all for it, but I could sense the hesitancy in Joe’s reluctant «OK». I love fish tacos and always thought Rubio’s did a good job in putting them together.
We headed over to this restaurant with a large and somewhat complicated «to go» order from my family members. The place was busy with customers enjoying their food, but we didn’t have to wait long. As we reached the order counter, we were welcomed by a young lady who was very patient as we placed each order with varying ingredients. When it comes to getting food for the family, I often feel stressed and worried that we will sound confusing and mistakes will be made, causing grumpiness and irritation on my elderly father’s part. But, the girl had no problem getting everything right, while remaining friendly and professional through the whole complicated food choice ordeal. Even my dad commented surprisingly that the whole ordering process went smoothly and how impressed he was with the staff’s efficiency.
Although I would normally get fish tacos without question, I wasn’t that hungry on this visit. I decided to try something different and light like a salad, so I ordered the California bowl. That «salad» was much more food than I expected and barely finished eating it! Joe even liked his meal, and I’m hoping he will give Rubio’s another chance so we can return to our once traditional Taco Tuesdays again! I missed those days!

Ordered catering and order was perfect! Did the large taco bar and everything was included … 2 meats, condiments, rice and beans. Quick and easy to order and everything ready when I walked in. They left off dessert but manager had it ready in a few minutes! Planning lunch for meeting or gathering? I would definitely recommend this as option!

This Rubio’s is one of the better ones I have been to. Service has been good so far. During lunch time this place gets packed because of all the business buildings near by. Line can go out the door so be prepared to wait. I like the tilapia burrito that they have. Comes with chips and complimentary salsa at their salsa bar. There’s seating inside and outside.

The food at Rubio’s is good but I don’t feel like I can give them four stars and here’s why: I don’t eat cheese. I don’t like the way it smells, I don’t like the way it tastes and I don’t like the texture. I never have. It’s like my kryptonite. So, when I order food I am always very clear that my order be «cheeseless».
At Rubio’s, even after I ask for no cheese, they confirm the order, and I get a receipt that says no cheese, I would say that 75% of the time they put cheese on it. It is frustrating to have to check my to go order every time before leaving the restaurant.
On a better note, their salsa is really good. The chips are fresh and crispy. They have a salsa bar with mild, med, spicy and tomatillo. The medium is my favorite. It has a nice smoky flavor with a little bit of kick.
The chicken street tacos are yummy. Three small corn tortillas with grilled chicken, guacamole, chopped onions and fresh cilantro. Simple but delicious. I usually get the street taco plate that comes with chips and either refried or black beans.
The service in Rubio’s is friendly and I would love to give them a better rating… if they would just stop cheesing up my food:)

I use to indulge in Rubio’s Tuesday fish taco special on a regular basis. Unfortunately, my last experience was bad enough that I haven’t wanted to return. However, I did manage to preserve the memory by writing my very first Unilocal review about it:

Five years and 500 reviews later I had finally mustered up enough courage to return. Yes, with five years to dull my memories, I had finally decided to be brave and live on the edge. I kept reminding myself that I had always enjoyed their fish tacos before encountering that most unfortunate experience. Only by repeating that thought over and over in my mind until it almost became a mantra was I able to overcome my fears and actually approach the counter to place my order.
I arrived at 2:30 for a late lunch and just in time for the taco Tuesday special. Imagine that! I was not at all surprised to find the price of their taco special had increased from $ 1.25 to $ 1.50. It even seemed reasonable in comparison to candy bars which have doubled in price over that same period of time.
The kid that waited on us at the counter seemed like an over programmed robot. Not your usual fast food counter robot that resembles a zombie. More like the Amway robot that overwhelms you with exuberant enthusiasm that seems contrived and makes you wonder if an alien might have taken over their body. I didn’t know whether to order or run.
The fish was crispy, almost too crispy. The cabbage was also fresh and crunchy. Instead of being drenched in sauce, there wasn’t any sauce at all and they didn’t come with chips. They weren’t awful but they still missed the mark.
I will probably return to see if they offer the sauce on the side.

I love the new California bowl with pan seared shrimp. It’s full of flavor and the serving size is just right which is perfect for lunch.
The service is quick and the staff are friendly too. I also like the choice of condiments they have from mild to hot and everything tastes fresh!
I really like this particular Rubios as the service is quick and the food is just wonderful.
