The Commissary is primarily a banquet facility and catering business. But chef/owner Russ Olden has put together an awesome Sunday gospel brunch that we thoroughly enjoyed. The desert has lots of unique stuff if you look hard enough, and we found this through a local guy at a restaurant the night before when inquiring about a good place to go for brunch. The food concept is a New Orleans breakfast buffet. Sure, there are scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and all that stuff. . but the southern food is what really makes it different. . collard greens, jambalaya, biscuits and gravy, pulled pork and all the rest. Comfort food, and very good. But what really sets this apart is the entertainment. The chef has put together a gospel band to entertain during brunch, and I have to say, we WERE entertained. The lead singer and musicians bring such great energy and passion, it really is infectious. At one point half the patrons were doing a conga line throughout the room. And they make a point of thanking all the patrons personally after the show. This is southern hospitality in the desert, and definitely not to be missed.
