Emily’s Cleaners & Alterations

I came here because it was closer to home and my mom recommended her. My daughter’s wedding dress needed to be cleaned and pressed before the wedding. Was quoted $ 95 but then because it was heavy $ 125. When it was lifted off the rack it fell, so I held it while Emily put 4 wire hangers and used two safety pins to hang the dress, I told her the safety pins would not hold. Sure enough before the dress was in the bag it fell again. Long story short the dress now looks like crumbled satin and I was charged $ 135 because the dress (with many pick ups) was so heavy. When I told her about this her response was «Well what am I supposed to do?» How about not charge me? It looks worse now than when we brought it in 3 weeks ago. She had my dress for the wedding for 4 weeks and 6 days before it was to be done she still had not started the alterations. Hemmed and taken up so the shoulders would stay up and not fall down onto my arms. She got the right shoulder right, but not the left one. Maybe the courage can be pinned to my bra strap and the sleeve will stay up on my shoulder. I just pray that the two bridesmaids dresses were altered correctly. But when she rushes to do jobs that she has had for three weeks I can only pray. I should have gone to Smart Dressmaking in Torrance they can do things over night an they are done correctly the first time.

Quality work but very pricey. Pricing should be talked about beforehand. I was shocked at what she charged for a ball skirt ($ 45 per hour for 5 hours work = $ 225). She said she charged me what she charges for a wedding gown. But I didn’t bring a wedding gown in, it’s only a skirt. I could have had a skirt made for that price. Mind you, i paid $ 300 for the skirt so she altered it for almost the same price as i paid for it. She had it for 5+ months so don’t plan on weight gain or loss. She didn’t have me try it on when it was finished and there were beads missing from the skirt (of course she told me I bought it that way). Her pricing is inconsistent. She charged me $ 85 for a pageant gown which was very similar work to the skirt and $ 140 difference on the final bill. It is like going to a mechanic and the mechanic does an expensive job without telling you the price first and approving it through you. It’s bad business. She waits until you really are in dire need of the outfit to finish it and knows you’ll pay anything last minute, which is why she waits until last minute to alter. And when you talk to her about her inconsistent pricing and why she didn’t ask you if you were OK with price before she completes the work, she gets defensive. She must realize that she isn’t the only game in town and negative publicity goes a long way. She should really consider publishing pricing so her final price doesn’t seem so deceptive. She charged me $ 30 to hem and take in a jumpsuit that only cost me $ 8 and forgot to sew the pockets, which I was also charged for. She bites off more than she can chew which is why you might receive incomplete jobs. If you need something done fast, I would look elsewhere. Also she’ll ask you personal questions about your financial situation to gage how much she should charge you. I had to go back to her at least 6 times to check in on the status of my garments. And I called countless times to check on status. Since she charges $ 45 an hour, lead time and customer service should be 5 star and it really isnt. I had to bring all 3 garments back because they weren’t accurate. I don’t have all the time in the world for my schedule to revolve around Emily and she needs to realize that.
National Cleaners in Long Beach is where I usually go, but I didn’t want to make the commute. I am going to remain loyal to National Cleaners. The alterations guy charged me only $ 20 to take in a bridesmaid gown. Once I dropped off 4 items to be altered and he finished in 4 days. I’ll make the 20 minute drive to long Beach and save $ 200 next time!

I have always gone to Emily for my pants to be taken in and she has always nailed it! She’s always slammed but is never late on any alteration I request. She’s a great woman as well, my mother and I have gone to her for over 10 years.

I cannot say enough good things about Emily! I came to her in total crisis with a bridesmaid dress that wouldn’t close…5 days before the wedding!!! She was so sweet and knowledgeable and made me feel very confident in the fact that she could fix it. AND SHE DID!!! I cant even express enough thanks. She is truly an angel, expert, dress fixing magician! I will refer everyone to her.

Emily’s is a total rip off! She charges $ 14.50 just to hem pants! Other places charge $ 7 — $ 10. Perhaps she feels that she can overcharge because she’s been in the area forever, but there are so many competitors around with much better rates for the same service. Go elsewhere.

If there were 100 stars possible, EMILY would get it… she is AMAZING! In the last month she has redone my niece’s prom dress. It was a beautiful dress, but Emily made it GORGEOUS! She added a slit and cleavage that you would not think was possible. She also took a dress I love into a $ 600 dress adding crystals and doing it so quickly. She saved me today by taking in a skirt that I need In just a few days. She is an ORGANIC cleaner and I will only bring her my business because she is not only great at what she does, but could not be a nicer woman. Emily’s Cleaners is by far THE BEST cleaners and ALTERATIONS I have ever been to! Thank you EMILY!

Emily has helped us for over 15+ years. We count on her for everything.
If it is really important and need it quickly, its ready.
If it can wait, we let her know. It really works well that way.
She has done regular alterations and cleaning and some very intricate alterations of important suits and dresses for family weddings, communions, confirmations, birthdays, international trips and everyday clothes as well.
We happily pass 8 alteration shops and drive 20 miles round trip to trust our work with Emily.
This is a family of seven (7), and Emily has helped us and many other our relatives with a smile and caring detailed work for a very long time.

Emily saved me from a hideous, ill-​fitting bridesmaid dress. It was silk chiffon with a built in corset, and she was able to take it in in the waist while maintaining the structure of the corset – not an easy feat, and well-​worth $ 45, in my opinion. I will definitely go back.
Only annoying thing: the claim ticket has her old address on it. My fiancé picked up my dress for me, and he went to the address on the ticket, and called me irritated that he couldn’t find it.

I have been going to Emily’s for over two years and she ALWAYS provides the absolutely BEST service in the area! Not only is she a very accomplished seamstress but she offers a personal touch to everything she does.
In addition, I am very picky about how my clothing items are cleaned and cared for and Emily has never disappointed! Not ever!
Her new location is bright and sunny, next to the Smart & Final on Western Ave… convenient and clean!
I live up on the hill but I make the drive to Emily’s because it’s worth it.

If I could give this woman a zero stars thats what she would get. I don’t recommend this place to anyone. She charges double and takes forever. She is not pleasant. So save yourself time and money go anyplace but here.
