A Friend of mine recommended LaScala to me. I took his suggestion. The Food was great. I got there just before the Crowd started filling the Place up. It was a Saturday Afternoon. Very limited Parking. The Waitress(Becky) was very sweet, but there were a couple of things she asked other Diners which she didn’t ask me. One, would you like to hear the Specials, and Two, would you like another Soda? Also. It’s a Cash Only Restaurant. That said, the Food was great, and the portions were huge.

CASH-only policy is outdated & begets the question … How do you report the revenue? Reservation for(8) at 600pm was ready. Reasonable drink & wine prices. Attentive, friendly, knowledgable waitress. Appetizers — rollatini, shrimp, antipasto — nothing special, except for the ‘pan-fried escarole’! Main courses average at best — Small pasta portions, weak red sauce — Veal parmaigiana; shrimp parmigiana; veal cacciatore; shrimp cacciatore(shrimp small, overlooked; everything in a pool of flavorless oil); veal verdichio; veal piccata; ‘specials’ of seafood medley & osso bucco(tender; flavorful but salty juices that ruined the bed of risotto). Same with respect to the desserts.

After having our daughters bridal shower at La Scala, which was excellent, my wife and I recently had dinner here. Even though it was a Monday night it was relatively busy. Before I go any further the food and the service were both excellent. If you haven’t eaten here I highly recommend it. My wife got her standard chicken parm which she said was some of the best she ever had. The portions are generous, the red sauce delicious and the chicken was cooked to perfection. I had the special which was pork braciole which was delicious and flavorful. We both had linguini which was cooked al dente. We both shared a caesar salad which was just as good as the meal. Just a note the salad is more than enough for two healthy appetites. We both had dessert which was very good. Now for the service which for me can ruin any meal no matter how good the food. Our server, which I believe her name was Sara, was great. Friendly, professional and very attentive not just to us but to the tables around us. When we were leaving with what we couldn’t finish, we had both hot and cold items. She separated both items and put them in their own hot and cold bags which I thought was a nice touch which many times does not happen. We had a great night and both highly recommend La Scala.

This is my favorite restaurant. I have been coming here since I was a baby being brought by my parents. I have always looked over the menu and I have never ordered anything different. Chicken parm is the best that you will find anywhere, and I have tasted many different chicken parms. I have also never tasted a sauce quote like theirs. Also there mud pie is literally to die for. I literally have dreams about this meal. We love it so much that many gifts given in our family are certificates to this restaurant. It is a little pricy but very much worth it.

After many years, had dinner there last night; linguine and meatballs, with a side garden salad and a nice glass of merlot. Still excellent after many years. And NO lack of customers. Why? Best Italian restaurant south of the North End. Not to mention bang for your buck! If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Plan on being a more frequent patron again.

This is authentic Italian food. Take it from a real Italian. There isn’t another Italian restaurant in the area with food this good and authentic. The prices are very reasonable and they keep it that way by not accepting credit cards(yes, that’s why). My family and I have been going there for over 30 years. I have a hunch that some of the negative reviews(CA, TX, etc.) probably think good Italian food comes from the Olive Garden LOL.

Good staples, friendly service and decent prices keep La Scala busy most nights, especially the weekend so reservations are recommended, as is CASH, no credit cards accepted here which is fine. Eggplant starter received great praise from the ones that tried it, calamari was decent too although i was little surprised it was served with cocktail sauce and not marinara, garlic bread was also a winner. I highly recommend the chicken exquisito, delicious thinly pounded chicken breast sautéed with a little brandy topped with cheese, excellent. Pasta sides were plentiful as was the bread. Some folks tried the pork special and liked it, was called pork braciola but not rolled, so more like scaloppine, however the tomato sauce was pretty good that topped it off. Drinks were reasonable and service was outstanding, i say this as we were there during the winter storm Jonas and the place was very quiet, kudos to the staff for staying open and sticking it out!

I absolutely love it here. My favorite dish is chicken Marsala. I haven’t had a bad meal yet… Portions are huge. Wine is great– Santa margarita by the glass — perfect!!! They do love their garlic there, but fine with me because I love it too! I have to say I even love the side of broccoli too– sautéed in garlic and olive oil. Great appetizers, great deserts, great waitstaff, great everything… But remember it’s cash only… I always forget that… The only not great thing

Worst New Years Eve Ever! They won’t take a reservation unless you have a party of 8 or more. We were told if we came when we called we could get right in. Which we heard from others waiting as well. We got there at 6:15. Then we were told it would be an hour and a half. Ok… we figured we could do that. Well TWOAND A HALFHOURSLATER… they finally sat us to be told they had no bread. We would have left but at that point we wouldn’t have gotten in anywhere. The food was ehhh. Not what it usually is. They could have at least offered appetizers for people waiting that long. My 80 year old diabetic mother who just came from dialysis was with us. I thought she was going to pass out.

The food was terrible, unappealing, and it was just an overall disappointment. Ordered Spaghetti with Meatballs and it was so bland, the sauce was watery. horrible horrible.

I’ve been here several times and have ordered take out as well. The atmosphere is nice… I really like the bar area. Staff is friendly. No complaints there. Cash only so come prepared! I haven’t loved all the food I’ve eaten here. The calamari was chewy… The carbonara was extremely heavy, more like a soup than a creamy sauce. The shrimp scampi, manicotti, lasagna and plain old spaghetti and meatballs are the way to go. Absolutely delicious! Definitely worth a try! Go for a date night and sit in the bar area!

I’m not sure why this place has such good reviews. About the only thing they got right was the bread. We ordered the fried calamari which was rubbery, the lobster bisque had two tiny pieces and was not even bisque colored, both of the veal dishes we ordered were flavorless, and the sauce on the linguini was like something straight out of a can. The ambience and service was the only thing saving this place. Oh and we had to actually pay for refills on soda water. The waitress was kind enought to take my veal marsala off the bill because I ate less than a bite of it. So, at least they were kind enough to do that.

I will say, the service and the atmosphere are second to none. The food is… Meh,. Clams casino was loaded with bread crumbs, no bacon still wondering if there was a clam to be found. Lobster Bisque was pretty decent.

It was really a 3.5 stars but I gave them the benefit in the end. I had been here many times years ago but this was the first time back in a while. My friend swears by this place, I think some of it has to do with what you are used to for sauce. Some are used to plain flat tasteless red sauce, some like theirs with some hints of seasoning and some very seasoned. There are also now sauces that are too sweet, when you are in the grocery store just look and all of them have sugar added! Well this place does a decent seasoned sauce but I think they now use a brand that is loaded with sugar or corn syrup or maybe they sweeten it in house. The service was average to just above, it wasn’t a peak or busy time though. The drinks were very average but the price was bordering on pricey I thought. The appetizer we split was plain frozen food that was fried up, pretty boring(calamari) The entrees didn’t seem as home cooked as they used to be, but at the same time it wasn’t just Sysco food re-heated. We split a canoli and had coffee to finish, the canoli was pre-filled long before, you could tell from the soggy shell, the coffee was fair at best and definitely overpriced. The menu had enough to pick from so I know I’ll be going back but I’ll skip the desert menu.

Friendly lovely atmosphere full of lots or neighborhood regulars. Caesar salad was delicious. Husband liked the minestrone. But veal Marsala was kind of strange. Decent prices and big portions.

The food was… Meh. The service was atrocious. I asked for a simple, two-ingredient drink. Belvedere, up, twist of lime. I got my Belvedere with a squeeze. This happens all the time. And since I’m good for two or three of these, I powered through the first one. She asked me if I’d like another, so I said, Please. But may I have a twist this time instead of a squeeze?” Blank stare. Scurry off. She returned with a cloudy martini. Quoth the server, «She squeezed about four or five lines in there to make sure there was enough.» It was my turn to stare blankly. I asked her to return with a martini with a twist. She returned with a brandy snifter of warm vodka with a wine glass full of lime wedges. I stuttered, «But that’s not even cold!» She said the bartender had no clue what I wanted. I pointed to the first drink(which was still on the table, and said, «That, with no garnish. Cold vodka in a glass.» She absconded with the fist drink and left the brandy snifter behind. She came back with a glass full of ice. I told her to go away, and that I’d figure it out on my own.

The«meh» description with the two stars is accurate as to my feelins of this place. The parking lot is small, but there is a side street that I parked on(and didnt get a ticket), so I assume it’s okay to park there. Inside it is very«old italian» dimly lit, dark woods, white table cloths, etc. Tables seem to be crammed in there so if the place was busy it may be crowded. Service was ok, our waitress was borderline rude, but I think thats just part of her«sass». For food I got the Tomato, Mozzarella, Basil salad. It was decent, tomatoes are not currently in season, so that isnt their fault. The cheese was the little tiny balls, and it was a balsamic and oil mixture on top. I would have prefered a drizzle of high quality balsamic instead, but that is just my opinion. There was much more oil than balsamic to be had. For my entrée I got the veal parmagian, and my friend got the chicken picatta. We both got pasta on the side. When the food came he got linguini with red sauce smothered on it, instead of the garlic butter sauce. When he pointed it out to the waitress she snidely said that he should have specified that he didnt want red sauce. He asked if he could have the garlic/butter linguine instead. We had to flag her down and remind her over and over. 25 minutes later the pasta came out. Cold. We were both done our meal at that point. He asked to have the pasta boxed up with the rest of the meal. The food was good, was it mindblowing? No. Would I go back? Probably, but now I know what to expect.

The House salad dressing is still very good. Although the entrees do not come with a salad, the dinner salad is only five bucks and two can split it. I wrote in 2010 that the portion could have been bigger, but that was not the case this time. There was a honking plate of Chicken Creation(chicken, eggplant, prosciutto in wine and butter). Few humans could finish it, it was really two portions, so not too bad at $ 16, considering how tasty it is. The house tomato sauce is not Ragu, mildly spiced, pretty good.
