Definitely give this place a try for dinner. The scenery and ambiance is unbelievable. They’re right on the lake so you can even take your boat in if you prefer. The views of the lake are gorgeous especially at sunset. The dishes on the menu are delicious and all of the fish is especially fresh.

Beautiful setting. Ordered the capered appetizer. Excellent. Hostess was very nice. I ordered the salmon special — Hated the sauce and returned it. Water was very gracious. I reordered the loon lodge salad. It was great. My husband ordered scallops– they were better at the forks in the air bistro. People were very nice and setting was beautiful.

We visited the Loon Lodge on a weeknight and found the place very cozy and quiet. The food was very good and the service was great. Prices are consistent with three $$$. Give them a try.

I’ve owned a house on Rangeley for years and had been coming to Loon Lodge in years past. After one of our favorite chef/host team left we found the fare okay but not great. We have other friends who own homes here as well and they’ve felt the same. Well, last night, because other establishments were booked, we decided to go there. In fact one of my best friends who was with us last night had gotten married there in 2003. It’s a great place to have dinner and exactly what you would picture for a north woods/lakeside setting. For appetizers we ordered Ahi Tuna, potato and leek soup, crab cakes and chowder. My tuna was exceptional. It was seared, seasoned perfectly and served over seaweed salad. Very nice! The others raved about the other appetizers. My friend and his companion ordered the stuffed Haddock. Both of them couldn’t believe the size of the portions and how great it tasted. They couldn’t finish it. They raved about their meals. My wife had the stuffed meatballs. BTW, it’s an appetizer, but you’d never know by looking at them. 2 very large meatballs served with Marinara sauce. Both my wife and I have high standards when it comes to food. She also raved about the meatballs. As I’m on a diet and am careful what I eat, I ordered the Lemon chicken and asked for steamed green beans. I usually don’t get chicken at restaurants for a few reasons one of which is it’s usually over cooked. Not this dish, it was cooked to perfection, grilled with a very nice lemon glaze. It was one of the best chicken dishes I’ve had. The desserts were exceptional. My wife ordered the mini pie(Blueberry) and our friend the Angel food cake with mixed berries. The service was on par with the food. We initially made a reservation to sit inside. When we got there our table was ready, but everyone saw how nice it was on the porch and we asked if it would be okay to sit there instead. No problem at all, they accommodated us and were happy to make the change. Our waitress was great. You could tell she likes her job and was attentive but not overly so. As we finished we all agreed we’d be coming back very soon and wondered why it had taken us so long. As people that come to the area often we left quite happy that we have this restaurant to frequent again.

Great place for dinner. The Loon Lodge is a rustic lakeside inn, one of the closest restaurants to the Saddleback Ski area. We were in the area for a ski vacation and had dinners in a few of the restaurants nearby; Loon Lodge was the best of the bunch. It was a little more expensive, but we thought it was worth it. The food was very good, service was friendly, and the atmosphere was very lodge-like. We would definitely return when in the area.

My husband and I ate at Loon Lodge for dinner in late October 2013. We didn’t make reservations and we had to sit in the bar which wasn’t a problem for us. We got the Caesar salad, French onion soup, seared tuna and crab cakes. All were very good and the atmosphere was cozy. The restaurant isn’t open Sun-Tue in the off season. We would eat here again.

Great place. The view and closeness to the lake is fantastic. I loved the wooden interior of the lodge and the staff were fun and friendly. Dinner was also amazing if a little pricey. Our room was $ 150 a night which again is a tiny bit pricey for Rangeley hence 4 stars instead of 5 but I will definitely stay here again for longer. Great place to unwind and get away from it all.

We recently had dinner here while on vacation in the area. Knowing that Rangeley, Maine is not known as a culinary hot spot we kept our expectations in check going in. We arrived a little before our reservation and we found it a little odd that we had been pushed to such a late reservation given that the restaurant was not that busy. Regardless, we proceeded to indulge in a beverage at the bar while we waited for our table. Not the greatest beer list I’ve ever seen, but enough of a selection that everyone should be able to find something to wet their pallets. By the time we finished a round of drinks our table was ready, and so were we. All four of us in attendance are fairly critical eaters that seek out quality food on a regular basis. That being said, I am pleased to report that all 4 of us thought just about everything we tried was fantastic. We started with crab cakes and stuffed mushrooms and both dishes were great. I had a salmon dish that was fantastic. I’m often reluctant to get salmon on the east coast because I’m regularly disappointed by the farm raised stuff prepared in uninspiring ways. Loon lodge hit the spot. My wife had the stuffed haddock and that was another big win. Our friend ordered the Rib Eye and take it as high praise that he loved it because he is very particular about his meat. Cooked exactly as requested. The only disappointment of the night seemed very strange to us given the circumstances. My wife has been talking to our waitress about dessert for most of the night. She does this just about everywhere we go. Anyway, the waitress couldn’t stop recommending the Crème brulee. Not sure if they screwed something up or what the deal was, but all four of us agreed it was probably the worst crème brulee we’ve ever had. No shell on it and very boring taste. Had it not been for this issue I would have gone 5 stars.

I eat here every time I go to Rangeley. They have amazing food and the place is always so cozy with a fire place roaring(I have yet to visit in the summer). The staff is boring and awkward, but its Rangeley… I have only eaten in the bar area which is really small with 3 tables. I usually always do take out for the calamari portofino(to die for) and the prime rib is great!

We stayed in Rangeley for a week and Loon Lodge was right down the street for us so we knew we would stop by at some point to check it out. It wasn’t bad, not bad at all. It has a very homey cabin atmosphere, a little dated but comfortable and cute. We weren’t able to sit on the porch because it was full but we had a nice view of the lake anyhow(and it looked like it was about to storm anyhow). We started with the lobster beignets with remoulade as an appetizer. The beignets were delicious crispy balls of lobster happiness w/a slightly creamy center. They actually had a decent amount of lobster in them. The remoulade had a lot of flavor but was quite a bit too salty for us. I had the crispy fried trout with corn, baby carrots and potatoes in a smoky tomato ravigote sauce. The fish came whole — which i wasn’t expecting — i know lots of people cook and serve whole fish, I’ve just never eaten it myself. Thank goodness, it had been deboned(because I’d have no clue how to eat it!) and except for a few tiny soft pin bones– i could eat right through the fish. It was very good– the crispyness on the outside of the fish made the skin super tasty. The ravigote sauce was again a little too salty but otherwise the flavor was very pleasant and the baby vegetables delicious and tender. I started off with the loon lodge salad toasted pecans, danish onions and maple balsamic vinaigrette. It was very good, a basic salad. The dressing was not too maple-y or acidic. And I had a glass of the Mark West pinot noir– it was very good, smooth and velvety. J had a lamb tenderloin that was a special on the menu that night-came with spinach and potatoes that had a crispy(assuming fried or broiled) crust. J really liked the meal but said everything was overly salted. They were out of a lot of desserts for some reason and we ended up having the brownie sundae. It was good-i think the choc ganache and fresh whipped cream made it because the brownie was just ok. We were disappointed by the coffee. It was standard restaurant coffee. Blah. Why do restaurants always work so hard on their whole menu, including wines, beers and other beverage choices but when it comes to coffee, they just give up? It ruins the experience to finish everything with a shitty cup of coffee. I’m sorry, but it’s true! Our waitress was a cutie– really friendly and down to earth. She was also attentive and intuitive to our needs. Exactly what you want when you’re going to a restaurant. Would absolutely return to Loon Lodge if I’m in the area again but I recommend they ease up on their salt use(we can always add more, but you can’t take it away!) and invest in higher quality coffee.

I ate here twice while on vacation this summer. The first time was in the dining room(got rained out from being on the porch both times). Both times I had the brownie sundae for dessert and it was out of this world awesome and awesome and awesome. It was flavorful chocolate brownie with chocolate chips and topped off by vanilla ice cream, whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate sauce. So you can’t go wrong there. Otherwise dinner was pretty good. The grilled NY sirloin was okay but uninspired. However the baby back ribs with a blueberry bbq sauce were excellent. Service was mediocre all in all though. If you’re in Rangeley give the place a shot. I’d say it was a little higher than 3 stars due to the brownie sundae.
