Hat’s off to DiCara’s deli. I had a couple of small parties recently and had no time to cook. Was very happy with their dishes, especially the meatballs and eggplant roulade. Very generous portions as well. My Italian father-in-law just complimented me on my good cooking and said I was now«una vera italiana». Shhhhhhh!

Gluten-free UN-FRIENDLY. The female owner or manager is very helpful and friendly and specifically offered to make single size entrees with gluten-free pasta as long as I called in advance. But when other staff members(including the male owner) answer the phone or wait on me, it’s a different story. Not only do they say«No can do» — they are decidedly NOT nice about it. I try to like this place and support local business, but gees … can you guys TRY a little?

The first time I came the food and service were so good I didn’t mind paying Boston prices for a sandwich. That has since changed. Last time I went we ordered a roast beef sub and a chicken cutlet sub. The roast beef sub was done in 2 minutes, while the chicken cutlet sub took a while. It was understandable because they apparently cook the chicken to order, this is a bonus in my book, but that’s where it ends. I was waiting and waiting and waiting without so much of a «hang on, it will be right out!» or «I’m cooking the chicken». The girl that helped us was too busy talking to her co-worker and running in the backroom. FINALLY I saw her walk back our front with the chicken to assemble the sub and what happens? She coughs. Not a complete turn around and cough, not a total cough all over my food, but enough to cause my friend and I to look at each other with the«did that just happen?» face. At this point I was so frustrated and really didn’t want to wait again I simply sighed, took the sandwich and left. Cold subs — great! Hot subs — not so much…

Tried it again. Can’t say I ever would expect what we got from a deli with such reviews. We asked for a chicken cutlet sub and got chicken fingers to start… My veal was tough, black and obviously processed. The service was rude and abrupt. My wife had to eat a cold eggplant Parmesan. My son complained of cold soggy meatballs. I challenge you to look closer at the food. The deli meats are the only thing fresh. Strike 2– 1 more? Maybe a ham and cheese? Probably not.

Their eggplant parmigiana is better than my moms, and that’s saying something! Their choice of deli meats is great all their food is fresh and well prepared. Also their restaurant is very clean and well organized.

Expectation was high based on Unilocal reviews. I got italian sub which was a special that day. It looked a lot better than it tasted. Bread was very dense and it was too much of it. Pickled peppers were neither hot nor sour enough. Meat looked good but I could not taste it because there was so little of it. I wont come back.

Consistently excellent. Never a long wait, no matter how busy they are. Had a chance to branch out and try their locally-made Gelato, pre-made meals, and frozen pastas. Banging. A+. After my wife had the baby, she wasn’t even out of the hospital before she had me run up the North Shore in order to get some of the cold cuts she had missed out on for almost a year. Quit stalling and get here.

Since moving from East Boston I have been trying to find an Italian deli and this is the perfect place! Subs are great and they have all of my favorite Italian delicacies. Get your Toroni, Italian cookies, and hot peppers… As well as fresh baked rolls and bread

Ordered a chicken parm sub and was very disappointed. I could barely see the tomato sauce. I thought someone was pranking me. Won’t be going back there again.

I recently used DiCara’s to cater a bereavement luncheon. The food was outstanding! Even more importantly Jill and Mark treated me with such kindness and compassion. They helped me through a difficult time by offering suggestions of finger sandwiches, Mediterranean platter, salads and desserts. My guests were impressed with how fresh and delicious the food was. The amount of food they recommended was spot on. I can’t express how appreciative I am. I will continue to stop in weekly to buy my prepared meals, deli meats and subs. Thank you, thank you Mark and Jill.

I was pretty disappointed with my deli sandwich. It was basically a big lettuce roll on somewhat stale bread. There were maybe three slices of meat in the sandwich. I may give it a second try, but it really pales in comparison to deli sandwich shops like Lambert’s in Westwood if that is what you are used to.

I love this place! Excellent deli sandwiches and the best chicken parm north of Boston. The specials board is creative and always tries to pull me away from my go-to’s. Also offered is a nice selection of prepared pastas and salads to take home. The owners and the staff are very friendly and will fix you up with something delicious lightning quick. Enjoy!

Third time I’ve been to this well known and liked deli today. Unfortunately, I feel like I was given a very small amount of roast beef in my sandwich which is especially annoying considering 7.50 flat rate. There was a new guy who made the sandwich and I hope he knows to become more generous in the future. I’d say I got three slices of roast beef, which is half of what I’d expect. Quality of meat was good, though. Lastly, I tried to call and complain but was left on hold for too long, so here’s the result.

Brings back my childhood. The small Italian deli in Gloucester or the treats by grandparent brought me back from Italy. I can get same treats here more my son. Excellent.

Sub rolls are fresh and they cut the meat for directly for the sandwich. The store is very clean inside. I brought home the chicken, ziti and broccoli out of their to-go case and the garlic was over-powering. Would pass on this take-out entre.

We were thrilled when this place opened in our neighborhood because there wasn’t anything like it in the near vicinity. Parking can be tricky when the karate place next door is in full swing — people park in the«DiCara’s Only» spots and then march directly into the karate studio, leaving deli customers to circle the lot. First off, the quality of food is good and everything we’ve ever ordered has been fresh. We’ve ordered party platters a few times and found them nicely done although a little highly priced. The sandwiches are very inconsistent depending on who makes them, which is a shame because both the breads and fillings are good quality. Sometimes an $ 8 roast beef sub is awesomely prepared and other times it is a sad mess wrapped in paper that’s soggy within 2 minutes, and when you unwrap it you’re saying«where’s the beef?» They might want to set a standard for all staff to follow so customers know what to expect on a regular basis. We like most of the staff, many of whom are on the young side, but we find the bald guy is a bit off putting; customer service is not his strong suit. He is very brusque and reminds us of «The Soup Nazi» from Seinfeld. He may be the owner, not sure, but if he is all the more reason he should be more pleasant instead of making customers feel like they’re an inconvenience.

Great deli! Food is fresh, staff is great and place is very clean. I ordered eggplant and loved it. My fiancé had me go there, he raves about the subs. I will be back, for sure!
