This is a dingy hole-in-the-wall takeout joint in a strip mall, so I’m betting most people don’t think much of it at first glance. However, appearances can be deceiving, because this is probably one of the better quick American Chinese meals I’ve had. Lunch specials are incredibly reasonable, ranging from $ 5 to $ 6 for ample portions. Both Beef with Black Bean Sauce and Home Style Bean Curd taste fresh and flavorful, and the Wonton soup that comes with the meal is tasty, if a bit oily. Even the rice has a nice flavor to it, elevating it above the filler that often comes on the side of Chinese food. This is definitely more of a take-out place than a dine-in place — there are only four tables, some of which are wobbly. Still, if you’re willing to put up with the setting, you’ll be rewarded with one of the few excellent cheap eats in Red Bank.

Big shoutout to China Moon for being the only Chinese food place with actually edible food in Red Bank! This is my go-to for take-out. When you want them to make it spicy, you have to ask for«extra extra extra» spicy for them to oblige. No gimmicks, no declarations of being«gourmet». Just humble, reliable American Chinese food.
