From the outside this place did not look like much, but I wanted to try it because of the great reviews… My family and I were not disappointed! We tried the stir fry udon noodles, seafood tacos, and the salmon pizza appetizers, and they were all so tasty and different. The rolls we tried were very fresh and tasted delicious– spicy & spicy, salmon lover, yummy, Phoenix, and yuzu rolls. I also love that they use brown rice… It was just as delicious, if not better, than white rice rolls. It is also BYOB, which we loved. The atmosphere was pretty quiet and empty for a Friday night, but we enjoyed it nonetheless. The staff was also VERY friendly!

This has always been my favorite sushi restaurant. The owners are so nice and the environment is laid back and relaxing. It is a bring your own restaurant and they’re open for lunch and then again at 4:30 for dinner. They have the best rock shrimp ever! I also love the sunshine roll and the minty roll. The potions are generous and the prices very average. They even delivered to me once about 30 minutes away in Holmdel. Definitely worth giving it a try!

The sushi here is very good. We got some delivered last night. Definitely would recommend the Sogo special, the orchid roll, and the fire island roll. We also ordered soba noodles which were great and brown fried rice which was very yummy as well. The sushi here is cheaper and equally good if not better to places with higher prices.

The sushi here was, in all honesty, totally ok. I’ve definitely had much better sushi for a way lower price at several different locations. The rolls themselves are incredibly small, especially considering how much they charge. The service, however, was actually very good. Our server was very nice and came to our table throughout the meal to ask how we were doing. I can’t review their non-sushi food, because I did only have their maki rolls. All in all, I found sogo«ok.»

Sushi was amazing. So many choices and the food was so fresh. I went to dinner 45 minutes before it closed and still had amazing service. It is BYOB so make sure to stop at the liquor store down the block before coming.

Service was sooooo terrible and slow. I asked if they had uni that evening– t took her fifteen minutes to come back with an answer. Repeatedly had to flag the server down any time I wanted to order something or needed something. Waited thirty minutes for my check to come. After another fifteen minutes of waiting after I got my check for her to get my card, I just walked to the front and paid. Food was mediocre. Definitely won’t be back.

Great sushi place. Looks like a hole in the wall but I totes magotes love hidden gems like this. Sushi tasted incredibly fresh(mind you it was a saturday — I can’t speak for any other day of the week), but it was delicious, fresh, and the service was great despite my initial skepticism given previous reviews. Anyhow def plan on going back!

My favorite Sushi in the area! Don’t get fooled by steakhouses that are serving sushi, it does not compare. Right next door to Teak but the sushi is always fresher and it’s not a zoo inside… service can get a little slow on a busy night but it’s BYOB so drink up! Try the Orchid roll!!! My absolute favorite I get it every time. Sampled a lot of other items on the menu and they have not dissapointed. Even the fried rice tastes hearty and healthy

All of the food here is awesome. The sushi is phenomenal. The reason for 4 stars is that the service is very slow, the staff is extremely nice and kind, but the service could be a little faster. Been here a few times, and once we sit down it usually takes about 10 minutes for someone to take drink orders

I bloody LOVE Sogo Sushi. What a great place. Sincerely. This joint serves only brown rice sushi, but you honestly wouldn’t even be able to tell. It is THAT good. My boyfriend and I came here on a date and we ordered the sushi for two dinner and we couldn’t stop laughing when the waitress only gave us one soup and one salad. We were like, «That’s really awkward. We’re sharing soup and a salad on our first date!» Good thing we were into one another or else that would have been absolutely horrific. Anyway, the owner realized the mistake and brought us out another soup and salad :) The sushi was… amazing. No, seriously. Giant pieces of fish that are just so incredibly fresh and filled with great flavor. As I was leaving the restaurant, I couldn’t stop thanking and praising the owner. I feel like owners who have great restaurants should really KNOW how much they are valued. I hope she got that from me. Can’t wait to go again! :) P. S. It’s BYOB! Yes!

Sogo Sushi is a dining gem in Red Bank. Staff members are friendly and efficient; and the food is consistently excellent. The brown rice sushi is a real treat. I always include a Sogo Special roll, shumai, and edamame in my order.

Recommending Sogo Sushi(Brown Rice Sushi). My experience has been consistently great for the maki rolls. Fresh and tasty. Recently tried the Red Snapper roll, which has a subtle smokey flavor. My standard: the Alaska roll. The miso soup is fine and the little salad with ginger dressing is okay. The owner and chefs are very pleasant and courteous. Disclosure: I’ve only been here for lunch and have only had maki roll lunches.

Terrible. With so many better Sushi places around, I’m surprised Sogo has such favorable reviews. We went to Sogo because of the rave reviews here on Unilocal and were completely disappointed. I understand the brown rice sushi, and I have had it in the past. However, the brown rice here was gummy and had a terrible texture when trying to consume the rolls. We had a Ruby, Diamond, Jasmine, and Lotus Roll. None of them were very good. They were all very boring and had very little taste at all. The salad was small and average at best. Overall the food was not very good. The only highlight was the Bulgogi Buns, but you only get three and they are very overpriced. The service was slow. Very slow. Not to mention when we sat down there were three tables not cleaned off. And when we left they still were not cleaned. There was only one other group of diners in the entire restaurant. What were they so busy doing that they couldn’t bus the tables? I’m all for healthy food, I shop at Whole Foods too, but this was just not a good sushi experience at all. We will not be returning.

This place is A-OK if you don’t come here on Valentines Day or a busy night. If there’s a bit of a wait to get into the dining room, RUN. This has been my favorite place in Red Bank to grab some quick sushi for a few years until Friday night. There was a wait which is to be expected on VDay. There were families and couples dining with us and we were seated at the middle table on the left that’s near the window leading into the counter at the entrance AKA the phantom zone. I ordered two sushi rolls and my accomplice ordered chicken teriyaki. We waited over an hour to get our food while the other diners who came in before and AFTER us got their meals and left. I suppose on a busy and hectic night like Valentines Day there are some sacrifices to be made to make everyone happy. I know the other couples around us had a very magical and super romantic evening at the expense of my table that was sacrificed to the VDAY gods in order to get everything out in a timely manner. My night was pretty much miserable even with the free dessert that was offered to us at the end for our volunteered altruism and I saw people enjoying themselves and leaving happy since they got satisfactory service. That’s awesome. You’re welcome.

The Bad — Sogo special salad– nothing special about this salad at all(basically just greens with avocado) — Ginger sauce– could’ve been better(a tad too salty and not enough of ginger taste) The Good — Free green tea at corner for take out people — Dining area looks clean and spacious — Sushi is awesome! Although I’m a health freak, I’m sometimes hesitant to get brown rice for sushi for fear that the brown rice texture will make the sushi hard but this is not the case here. You can’t even tell that it’s brown rice. — Some rolls to mention that are noteworthy–(1) Sogo special roll;(2) Spicy & Spicy; and(3) Black Pearl. The Bottomline: I’m definitely coming back here to try their other rolls. Prices are fairly decent given that they are using fresh ingredients and brown rice. They even have posters to educate you on the benefits of brown rice versus white!

My favorite thing about Sogo Sushi is that they deliver. really, why do so few places in red Bank bring my food right to me door? Sogo Sushi, I thank you for indulging my laziness. I’ve never actually been inside Sogo & sat down for a meal there, but I’ve had them deliver my lunch more than a dozen times. To be honest, on days when I’m feeling less lazy — that is to say, willing to leave my apartment in order to find delicious restaurant fare — I prefer Teak, whose creative sushi is a lot more fun. Sogo is more affordable, though, & again, they deliver. Favorites include the summer roll(shrimp tempura, lemon, cucumber top with mango & mango sauce), veggie dragon roll(sweet potato tempura wrapped in avocado), & inari; they also do great veggie tempura. The folks who answer the phone & make the deliveries are always nice & efficient; I’ve only seen one order mix-up in all my time ordering from them, & even then, it was nothing major. I’m a big fan of Sogo Sushi; if you’re looking for something light & delicious for a delivery lunch or dinner, this is your place!

When you see it from the outside, it’s not that impressive looking. When you first walk into the door, it’s still not that impressive looking(sushi bar/where it used to be take out only). Then you walk into their dining area and then you think, okay — not bad. On to the more important part, the sushi! Excellent rolls that are visually very appealing as well. My mom described it well: «It’s like we ordered sushi rolls at a nice place in the(New York) city». Every rolls is automatically made with brown rice. In my experience, brown rice with sushi is really tricky, they either make the rice too dry, or too watery. This was the first time I’ve had it perfectly made. We started with the miso soup which was good(I’ve had bad miso soup before so now I appreciate it when it comes out good!). Rolls: 1) Orchid(spicy tuna, shrimp, crabmeat, inari & tamago wrapped in soy bean paper topped with basil, fluke, and tuna) — the prettiest roll we ordered & was delicious. The basil really added another element to the roll 2) Diamond(spicy yellowtail, crunch and avocado topped with sliced fluke and caviar) 3) Alaska Beauty(salmon tempura, and asparagus, topped with fresh salmon and spicy mayo) 3) Hana Roll(tuna, yellowtail, salmon, avocado wrapped in soy paper) 4) Special eel roll and one other roll I can’t remember. Service was good, sushi was excellent, with great company — what more could you ask for?
