One of my favorite Indian Restaurants in our area. Eaten at the restaurant twice, however prefer takeout. Food is the best and appreciate the service too.

I have been here many times over the years and have never had a bad dinner. They are delicious and consistent. They do not have a liquor license however, You can bring your own beer or wine. Taj Mahal or Fisher King Indian beer is always fun to bring and drink there. Nice vegetarian dishes too. It’s nice that they are their. The ambiance may be a little generic however I enjoy the appetizers and dinners very much.

I love a good curry dish. I try a new curry house any time I come across one. I live not to far from the Redhook curry house and have been going there for just about ever. I even use to go to the Chinese restaurant that was there prior to the change in cuisines. A change for the better. The papdum and the fresh shrimp app are amazing… then I have tried just about every dish the, great biriani and vindalue. The nan breads, omg so good and fresh. Get a garlic! But the show stopper is the Teeka massalla sause. They will make it with anything. I switch from chicken to lamb, they are very accommodating. The older fella who is always there I think he is an owner or something, is always welcoming even remembers what I order… I have become pradictible. Well enought rambling and terrible spelling. This place is a hidden gem make it a visit, for it will likely become a regular one.

I’ve been here probably 100 times. I love their buffet, and there korma is some of the best I’ve ever had. My only complaints are a couple of the girls who work there have attitude problems and sometimes their buffet empty out too quickly and isn’t replenished! But when it’s full the food is amazing!

Our favorite Indian restaurant — and I’ve already decided that if I ever have to arrange my Last Meal, their Mulligatwany Red Lentil Soup would be the soup course; it’s magnificent. Tremendous amount of flavor, rich, only a little hot(don’t bite into the pepper!), super! Plus the best Sweet Lassis we’ve ever had; it’s amazing how many Indian restaurants don’t put rosewater, the primary ingredient, in a lassi! Here they do, & it’s wonderful; it also cuts any heat some dishes might have(but not all Indian food is hot). The buffet is a great deal, but it is true we think some dishes might be best off the buffet and besides are not often in it, like their great Pashwari Naan & Malai Kofta. Just wish this wasn’t so far away!

We often come to redhook from Hudson to do our shopping and dining, It’s always a pleasure to stop At The Redhook Curry House any time of the day, I Believe their lamb to be the most tenderest around, their korma is delish ! We’ve tried many a meals on their menu and haven’t been disappointed yet. Everyone there is always tentative. A clean A+ establishment for sure. Highly Recommended! Kudos to Mohamad. Looking forward to our next dining experience.

I think this place gets a unfairly bad rap. If you order off the menu instead of eating the underwhelming, ill-stocked and inadequately heated buffet items, you’ll be pleased. Yes, the dishes are a tad greasy, but they are perfectly seasoned. The lamb saag is delish, as is the lamb dilder and madras. The naan is fine, and the rice comes steaming hot with a small garnish of green peas and caramelized onion. Décor is dingy and homely, but don’t let that turn you off from the food. I’d rather they keep their prices low and keep the décor plain. It’s a family-run place, with the young son often acting as both cashier and server — and doing fine with both. He’s charming and hard-working. The father has warmed up to us over the years. The only problem I have is the use of food dyes — in both the mango lassi and in the green sauce. Totally unnecessary. The green in the sauce is of a shade not found in nature. The flavor is fine, but who wants to ingest dyes?! Likewise, the mango lassi is tasty, but I don’t like ordering it because of the dye. I hope the owner heeds these reviews and considers dropping the dyes.

I’m big on Indian food and this place did an adequate job. I had three vegetarian dishes which consisted of mushroom, lentils and spinach. Mango lassi was lacking in creaminess. They use less yogurt and replace with crushed ice. That’s insulting to yourself if you call yourself authentic. I got the food to go. Food was delicious and good sized portions. Prices are definitely on the expensive side, but I think they get away with it because this is the only Indian restaurant in a wide radius. The thing I greatly don’t like about this place is obvious oppressive atmosphere. Polite, friendly, soft spoken female waitress who took my order. The(male) owner barely made eye contact with me when I was paying for my order and making light small talk, not friendly at all when I complimented his beautiful establishment… just a quick muttered thank you and a grunt and back to reading his paper. Rude to say the least. I wouldn’t discourage anyone from patronizing Curry House, just don’t expect than more than good food.

I love the place. The food is always good if not great. The owner is very nice, as is his family. Being a family-run restaurant it can be slow if it’s a full house, but I’d always rather give my business to a mom and pop. Portions nearly always supply lunch for the next day. I personally avoid the buffet nights. I’m not a big fan of the buffet concept or the crowd that hovers and haunts over the dishes. I’ve had Indian food all over the country(admittedly not in India) and this place hits the price point perfectly. I notice a few complaints that I think I can address. If you want spicy, order it spicy. If you don’t want a creamy dish, don’t order a creamy dish. The décor… it’s part of its idiosyncratic charm. You have to learn a restaurant. This one is pretty easy to figure out. I highly recommend it.

What can I say? We go every Sunday for the buffet. Our kids love it. We see our friends and neighbors. It is definitely the hang out spot in Red Hook for Sunday dinner. The food is delish. The staff is sweet. Yum. See you there on Sunday!

5 stars. I lived in Jackson Heights, Queens. That is where people from Manhattan go for Indian food if they are up for an adventure for top notch Indian food in NY. A visitor I had from India(he was visiting NY for a few months) said this restaurant had the best Indian food he had eaten while in the U.S. I understand why he might say that. The food is top notch. At other Indian restaurants I’ve had great, good, eh, and food that has made me straight up sick. I’ve never had a single complaint about the food here. The atmosphere is FAR from fancy, but still wouldn’t change a thing. I stand behind my 5 star rating in regards to their made to order dishes. I am not a huge fan of the buffet.

I go to Red Hook Curry House almost exclusively for the Sunday and Tuesday dinner buffets, and I like it very much. It’s typically about 8 dishes, a nice mixture of meat and vegetable dishes, usually 2 chicken, 1 lamb, pakoras, naan, etc. Their chai, which I believe is home-brewed, is fantastic, probably the best I’ve ever had. While an Indian buffet should strive for a balance of spiciness in its food, I would say that on average it’s probably a little spicier here, but then again, their specialty is curried dishes. I’ve been surprised a few times by an unexpectedly large number of small hot peppers in some dishes. Sometimes it feels like that little extra flavor you’d want in some dishes was replaced by slightly more spiciness. I could live on the vegetable dishes. The meat dishes, while also good, are sometimes a little inconsistent, especially the lamb dishes. The curried lamb is the best of these. I really need to come here on other nights of the week to try their other dishes and see what their service is like. But the buffet just keeps calling…

Went to buy take-out from this place last week and was absolutely appalled by the quality of the food. The chicken madras was dripping with grease. The naan was stale and flavorless. My mango lasi had food coloring and was not like traditional lasi at all. The food actually got on my wood table and the food coloring has stained my table green(«pistachio chutney»). Also the staff was very rude and the food was way over priced considering how awful it was. If you have a craving for Indian food try cinnamon in Rhinebeck and save yourself the money and stomach ache later. Avoid this place at all cost!

I LOVE the Curry House-it’s one of those rare restaurants in a small town where everything is good because, really, I’m sick of sandwiches and burgers all the time. I need a little variety! I’m all about flavor and indian food is definitely ALL flavor. The Sunday and Tuesday night buffets… amazing. The food is different every week too, so it’s a good change up. You can also bring your own beer or wine with your meal, so that’s cool. The thing is, my indian friends HATE this place. Some of them say it’s too creamy, some of them say it’s not spicy enough. I dunno, maybe it’s true. I guess it can’t really compare to real indian food since, hey! We’re not in India. But I like it, so I won’t stop eating it!

I give them 3 stars for being a family owned business and the only Indian restaurant around in Red Hook. But there food is not great at all. It’s greasy and heavy. They do have a great buffet special on some days, but again the food isn’t that fresh. The service and décor is mediocre. It can be better, but they don’t have any competition for motivation.

I don’t know why other reviewers complained about the service and the décor — as far as I could tell, they didn’t have either. The food, on the other hand, was mostly really nice. I ordered the Chicken Vindaloo and my gourmand kid ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala. They were both really really nice. I had the leftover tikka masala for lunch today, it was great. The rest of the family had the buffet though and most of it was cold. They were not happy with that. Best Indian I’ve had in the Hudson Valley. If I lived nearby, I would order take out twice a week.

I’ve been going to the Red Hook Curry House for the last 2 years, and I think it’s finally time to review it. 1. The buffet is very mediocre. Just order off the menu. 2. Garlic nan ***** LOVEIT 3. I’ve tried almost all the items on the menu. Chicken Korma and Chicken Vindaloo(very spicy) are my favorite. Everything else is pretty good except for the mixed vegetable curry, which had awful, overcooked, bland vegetables. 4. Order in if possible because the service is sometimes terrible. Once, I went with a friend and we were one of three tables in the restaurant. It took 20 minutes for them to come take our order and another hour and 15 for our food to come out. There was no one at the front of the restaurant(they were all in the kitchen) to ask what was going on. We both had to be somewhere, and it was so annoying that we didn’t return for months. I’ve had several other experiences where other tables who had been seated after mine, were served before us. Basically, don’t go if you are in a rush or just order in. 5. No it’s not NYC, but it’s one of the best restaurant options in this town.

First a shout of of thanks to Unilocal friend Willis W. for putting The RHCH on our radar. Secondly, this place is not in Brooklyn, silly Unilocal finder, it is up here in the Boonies! We have our own Red Hook! ;) And lastly, what took us so long? For our 48 monthiversary dinner, The L. and I had a taste for the spicy after our day of garlicking at the nearby festival. What better reason than to try TRHCH now? Um, none. We knew it would be easily veggie/pesce friendly and had also been recommended by a non-yelp(the horror!) friend as well. While not fancy TRHCH was adorned with lots of oversized Indian miniatures, Indian music and positive vibes. We ordered a vegetable naan, a vegetable Biryani and a Tandoori fishie which was salmon though we were hoping for goonch, LOL. There was more than enough food that we ended up taking home the leftover Biryani which makes an interesting frittata, by the way. Their Sweet Lassi was pretty good and The L. liked their Chai so much, he got two. The service was great, the bill very reasonable and the experience well worth repeating. Is it the bestest ever Indian food I have had? No, but I believe that they are achieving what they set out to do so that is why I offer up 4 stars. I was not expecting a feast for a Maharani but a nice, authentic meal in a family run business not in a major city or a minor one for that matter. It is not supposed to be Taj Mahalistic but reliable, friendly and delicious. I look forward to going back and experiencing more of their dishes. Well done! No, that is not me either! ;))) But a grrrl can dream…

Loved this place! Had a great meal for $ 12.95 on Sunday night. Heaping chafers of deelish food. Loved the creamed spinach, shrimp biryani and tandoori chicken. The Chai tea is outstanding. Atmosphere is pretty ‘down-market’, but who cares? It’s a great value. I highly reccomend.
