We’ve eaten here before and the meat was so so, but the last time we were there, the brisket was sliced thick and it was tender and tasty. No gristle or fat. The french fries would have been great if they hadn’t been cooked in the same oil as the fish. They looked like hand cut potatoes, were just the right brown on the outside and tender on the inside. The fries on top were good, but about halfway down, I got to the fishy taste and every one after that was worse than the last. So half my order was inedible. Randy doesn’t try to conceal the fact that most of his sides aren’t homemade. The cans and cake mix boxes are on shelves behind the counter. The potato casserole is an exception though. Most of the time, it is really good, but after the lunch or dinner rush, it can look pretty dried out. We never have to wait long, and the people who work there are always friendly. Their water is filtered, so whether it’s plain water or a fountain drink, it tastes good. Red Oak water can be pretty bad at times, so that’s a perk.

Randy’s Bar-B-Que catered my husband’s surprise birthday party at Flanagan’s Party Barn, and it was unbelievably delicious! Everyone, and my friends are food snobs, LOVED the food! We had brisket, jalapeño sausage and smoked chicken, to die for. His beans are incredible with bits of smoked meat mixed in. Then, he talked me into getting the macaroni/veggie salad and wow was that great! My husband loved the potato salad, too. Everything was fantastic, he brought the food, set it all up, provided plates, napkins, knives, forks and spoons, iced tea and foam cups. I over-ordered so I would have leftovers and I’m so glad I did. Randy is awesome, true to his word and honest. His restaurant is a gem, and the catered food was over the top great. Win-win-win, thank you, Randy!

Randy’s BBQ is the best. I had the crazy idea to throw a surprise birthday party for my husband while we were surprising his parents with a visit at Christmas. My husband is from Texas and we now live in California. Not having his family to help me plan his surprise party(since it was a surprise to them that we would even be in town) i was on my own. After making several phone calls to different places someone suggested Randy’s. I called Randy and he was a God send. He helped me every step of the way, he went above and beyond. He told me he would close the restaurant, and we could have the whole place to ourselves(the party was 2 days after Christmas, so it was going to be slow) I could decorate however i want, he helped me order the cake, provided the cake servers, he worked with my budget, gave us his full menu that our guest could pick from, he even helped me try and find photographers. The day of the party came and everything was awesome. Randy and his staff were very friendly and very helpful. They let us decorate however we wanted. Everyone arrived early, Randy let the kids start eating right away, my husband arrived a little later and was surprised. The food was awesome. All of our guest loved the food, Randy even surprised us and made a banana pudding, wanting to make sure we had enough cake. The sauce was good, the brisket was good, the salads, and sides were good. Everything was very good. My husband had an awesome surprise birthday and we had a wonderful time visiting with family that we don’t get to see very often, while eating yummy food. Thank you Randy and your staff for all you did for us.

How this place could have made a D Magazine top ten list of best bbq in Dallas is perplexing. It doesn’t say much for D Magazine’s familiarity with good bbq. Payola must have been involved(I keed, I keed). The brisket is «meh» the ribs are double«meh» and sausage has cheese in it… give me a damned break… that’s a freak of nature right there. Sides are completely so-so. I feel bad about the bad review, because the staff are all nice. But, I have to call it as I see it. The photo of my Tech brothers in arms there makes me wish they’d stopped by my place for directions to a good BBQ joint. I’d have gladly helped them out.

My husband and I tried Randy’s and it has by far been the worst bbq spot I’ve ever been to. It made no sense to be that bad. I ordered the pulled brisket sandwich. The bbq sauce is terrible. Makes me wonder why so many people like this place. I’m thinking they have a lack of taste buds or just have NEVER had good bbq. I’d definitely drive a little ways down and get Jr’s BBQ instead.

It’s better than Dickey’s, but not as good as Pecan Lodge– but hey, it’s close by and it has a drive through. I only wish they did breakfast and stayed open till at least 10pm.

I have tried Randy’s on multiple occasions. Each time I pray it’ll be better than the last. I want to see what everyone raves about but it’s lost on me. The last time I visited Randy’s we ordered ribs. We found 3 charred bones, 4 actual ribs and the cartilage filled tips you throw on the trash. Our brisket was cold and dry. The sides were just ok. The food has never been worth the price.

good enough; not great. I ate here a few times while working in the area. I thought the sides were better than the brisket and pulled pork. I’m thankful for this option in Red Oak, but I wouldn’t drive out of the way to partake.

Was in the area so we dropped by to experience the place for lunch, we got there before the lunch crowd to ensure the meat & fixins were fresh. Got the ribs and brisket and a cpl of sides, my first eye opening was when we got to the cashier, WOW the price seemed kinda high? Off to sit and eat, ribs had meat but were barely warm? brisket was good but same temp? potato salad was in the cooler pan but was room temp? the only thing that was warm was the fried okra, I’m guessin it was cooked to order? for the price of what little we ordered this place will not be on our«have-to-go» list??? unless you are in the immediate area to it, there are much much better bbq joints in Dallas!!! Staff is very friendly and place was clean.

Okay, some BBQ joints are all the same… and some, well some have soul. When you walk into Randy’s, your are likely to see Randy standing by the door. I will get to the food in a sec, but Randy is what makes this place awesome. I was there 5 minutes picking up a to go order, and I… Met Randy, saw pictures on his I phone of his favorite football coaches, heard his employees bragging on him, and got a lil discount from Randy cause my football team lost. You will feel good about spending money is this place. As for the food, its really good. The ribs are fall off the bone tender, the sauce is tasty, the baked potatos were huge, and the potatoe casserole(not to be confused with the potato salad) was delish. Beans were good and the brisket was moist and tasty. Im personally of the opinion that bbq is a really subjective taste. I can say that I really liked it, and I think most people would too. So if you are ever in that neck of the woods, dont miss the chance to stop by and meet Randy and eat some of his tasty food.

Absolutely one of the BESTBBQ places around! You must try the brisket and sausage. Sooo good! Call it in if you’re going through the Drive Thru to save time… it’s worth the wait! Their cakes are just like my mom used to make! A must for any barbecue enthusiast.

Listen, if you’re ever in Red Oak, or passing by Red Oak, or thinking about Red Oak, stop at Randy’s. I am not a big barbecue fan, but this place has made me a believer. Growing up, barbecue to me was dried-out brisket and hamburger buns covered in too-sweet sauce. As an adult I’ve grown to love pulled pork, but barbecue in general is not something I seek out. So last Saturday when our friends suggested getting barbecue before heading to Waxahachie for a gallery opening, I reluctantly went along. «maybe they’ll have good potato salad,» I thought to myself. «probably better to have a light dinner anyway.» good lord, people, I have not stopped thinking about the food I hoovered that evening. the brisket was possibly the best I’ve had in my life, the pulled pork was fatty and crispy and flavorful. The jalapeño sausage was not super-spicy – it had just a hint of heat that made the smokiness of the meat more pronounced. the sides were fantastic too: the potato salad was basically chunky mashed potatoes with mustard and mayonnaise and pickles and stuff. The sweet and sour cucumber salad was delicious, and the rolls… I could have eaten a dozen of those rolls. I can tell you right now: I’m not waiting until I pass by red oak to go back – food this good is worth a special trip.

Let me first state how much I despise the review eater monster… Reprint since it’s not fair to stuff a valid user review. This is a place for good BBQ. The sides aren’t the best but the jalapeño beans are pretty tasty and the muffins /rolls are fresh. I’ve experienced the occasional miscue’s on quality control but they’ve been improving over the last 6 – 9 mo that I’ve been going there. I work relatively close so it’s only a 10 min jaunt for me. What spurred me to write a review today is the brisket I had yesterday(photo attached). The brisket was fresh out and as she’s learned, offer the fat /burnt end(my favorite). I got the first cuts from the fat end, incredible smoky flavor. Enough of the fat was rendered to make the meat flavorful and there was plenty of smoke penetration into the meat to prevent it from being too roast beefy. Absolutely delicious! I do like their sausage too, but I typically give it a little hit of their traditional sauce, they work well together. I’ve also had the ribs on several occasions and find them to be quite tasty with plenty of smoke flavor. They also do not need sauce, IMO.

Lucky me, this place is only a couple of miles from my house. I tried the ribs and brisket and found both to be outstanding. They have a couple of bbq sauces to choose from, and a relish bar with 3 types of pickles(OHYA!). The sides I tried(green beans and some kind of sweet bean/corn salad) were ok… I should have tried the fried okra, but was in a hurry and they would have had to fry it up special for me. I will defintely return and make a point to bring my out-of-town guests to try it as well.

Fantastic sweet sauce. Superb jalapeño sausage. Wonderful potato casserole. They will cut your brisket lean or give you the option of keeping the fat. Love that. One of the best bbq joints in dfw.

After reading about this out of the way restaurant on D Magazines list of top ten barbecue places [not] in Dallas, I decided to go to this place witth some friends. The restaurant is pretty easy to get to, about 20 minutes down I-35 from downtown and then another few minutes getting to and going down Red Oak’s main drag. The restaurant has got corrugated tin walls on the interior decorated by wooden planks with folksy/Jeff Foxworthy-esque aphorisms painted on them, among other things. Orders are placed at the front, and you seat yourself. The young woman taking our order was helpful in figuring out how much food to order for our group, and recommending sides for our meal. About the food: this restaurant supposedly specializes in the«smoke it senseless, sauce is minimal» school of Texas barbecue that I love. We came in at around 2:00 on a Friday afternoon, which probably meant any food they were currently serving was left over cuts sitting under a weak heat lamp, and not something hot out of the smoker. This meant unremarkable ribs and brisket whose blackened crust might have been crunchy, but had now gone soft. The meat was also a bit undersalted. The sides were more of the same: mediocre baked beans, and a potato casserole confirming that a combination of potatoes, cheese and bacon cannot ever taste bad. The rolls were lukewarm and otherwise unremarkable. I want to underline that it’s hard to fairly judge this place’s BBQ without coming back during a busier time(when more freshly cooked cuts of meat are available). Unfortunately, between the unimpressive side orders and the remoteness of the establishment, I probably won’t be returning to verify.
